Now that they got the sacks of Berries back—

It was time to work for their keep!

What, you thought handing over the berries would mean that was it? Hell no!

Now they had to pick through the berries and bring them down to one of the expansive farms around Littleroot that had a “wine cellar”.

An attempt at a vineyard, at least.

“Think we went overboard with all the berries?” he chuckled as he sorted through the sack, watching as another volunteer was trying to herd some Unfezant towards a nearby coop.

time to work for the wine at the farm!

[attr="class","matias i"]they won't be milking miltanks today as the farm has seen an influx of volunteers, so they'll be focusing on turning those delicious berries they picked into wine.

matias should've known that the farm would be asking them for more help. after all, they are two of the most capable volunteers one could ever ask for.

except lars fell off a tree, so maybe not.

"maybe a little. it sure backfired on us seeing how we need to mash these up now."

in the near distance, something like an UNFEZANT chirps, but matias isn't well-versed enough to recognize what species it is exactly.

"i don't think this counts as 'free wine' anymore."

There were piles of ripe berries, apricorns, and then the few rotten ones that they’d overlooked.

“You know how shit goes out here—work for your food, or something like that,” he shrugged.

Looking away for a few moments, he saw another volunteer taking a crack at horse riding on the back of a Mudsdale, bringing the equine Pokémon to trot around the expansive farmland.

how convenient of the farm to forget to mention how the free wine lars is getting needs to be made by lars himself. in fact, matias isn't even sure if he qualified for the free wine but he'll fight them for it. he picked these berries, after all, so it's only fair for him to FEAST on it, too.

matias leads them over to a station where they can squish these berries and drain their liquid into buckets.

lars is more optimistic than matias is, that's for sure. they're likely going to get whatever shit wine they're about to make.

or try to make, at least.

is this worth the FARMER'S TAN? definitely not.

with a sigh, he pours out the berries into the barrel, then starts grinding.

“If you want good wine, it takes a while to mature in those big-ass kegs. They don’t shit this out right away after this is juiced up,” he added with a chuckle as he got to pressing as well.

There was a lot of ground to cover—a lot of berries to cover, if he was going to be correct about this.

If there was one thing he hated about crushing berries manually, it was the fact that once whoever was doing the deed was done, they would have pretty rosy skin.

Blame it on the blood rush, maybe?

but that makes sense. it'd be strange if all it takes to make wine is to squish up berries because then wouldn't everyone make wine?

“Well, you learned something new today, then,” he said with a smirk as he moved to another portion and continued squishing the berries down into practically juice at this point.

As for the infamous drink? Well—

“From what I heard? Milk, pumpkin puree, and then some extra flavoring. A shot of coffee too, I think some people use espresso? I don’t know why,” he mused with a shake of his head before breaking down into laughter.
