Mint watched his own breath form a long poofy stream as he exhaled, grinning despite the low light and frigid conditions. It was cold, sure, but he had a better tolerance for it than the heat. And considering how he had found Gelatto, in the middle of a blizzard about to freeze to death, this was nothing he couldn’t handle. Still, he was going to be a little dramatic about it when his picnic partner grumbled something or other about it. [break][break]

He puffed out his cheeks, imitating a Pachirisu in the middle of stuffing its cheek pouches, before sighing loudly at the guy. “You’re not as strong as I thought if a little chill can take you out this easily~” he teased, shrugging at the trainer before adding. “Next time we hang out, you pick the place then.” He added, audaciously scheduling a third meet up.

greyson grumbles beneath his breath, knocking away some debris from his elbow. as he does, he sees two pokemon nearby, watching them both warily.

Mint shrugged, offering what could only be described as a little-shit smile before stating confidently, “I hang out in ice- covered caves. Sometimes you can find these weird shells, and salts that this old man makes into bells for you.” This felt like an obscure thing, and it could’ve been just a tourist trap thing, but he thought it was neat. So anytime he came around Shoal Cave tried to collect some for the old guy. As he spoke, he caught sight of the pokemon watching them and his hand went to his belt to retrieve a pokeball, and Gelatto’s ball.

He let out the Nintetails pointing over at the Sandshrew. “Distract the Sandshrew, Gelatto.” He ordered, readying a pokeball. Gelatto puttered about, eyeing him and Greyson awkwardly before taking a leap and running straight at the ground type. As the pokemon scrambled, Mint chucked the empty pokeball at the Sandshrew’s tail. He then turned back to Greyson as Gelatto walked back towards them. “If you need to warm up, we can jog a little, just don’t blame me if you slip.”

from a bright light a delphox appears, her shaggy form perfect for frigid temperatures like this. her narrow eyes land on the approaching bat pokemon. gingerly removing the gnarled wand from her arm, she points it at the creature, trapping it in the air with PSYCHIC before a torrent of MYSTICAL FIRE consumes it from the bottom.

after it's all said and done, greyson encapsulates the wild-pokemon in an orb, watching it settle.

Mint let out an unbecoming snort at the dad joke. “To be fair…I do burn very easily…” he said trying not to give Greyson the laughs he deserved out of pettiness. “Good luck!” he added quickly as his companion’s eyes moved to the Gliscor. He’s quick to step back, letting the other trainer handle it. Gelatto steered clear, as he caught sight of flames roasting the bat pokemon alive. Fox eyes dare not meet other fox eyes and instead he stayed by Mint’s side wary of their new companion. [break][break]

“Gelatto, keep it up.” Mint said, nodding over at another ice type as is floated aimlessly across their path. This one seemed far less hostile than the last one. Easy pickings for a pokemon as nervous as the Ninetails. Gelatto rushed in, bashing his body into the Vanilluxe while Mint readied and aimed a pokeball. Gelatto is rough with his attacks, catching a part of the pokemon in his mouth and slamming it down on the icy rock. It let out a cry in pain before it was cut off by Mint’s pokeball smacking it on the side. “Good boy! Not too bad right?” he said to his partner who trotted back to him proudly. “Still regret coming here?” Mint asked. “They get weirder as you go in.”

a genuine shiver of excitement went through greyson as the ball stilled, and the gliscor was caught. another powerhouse to his team - fuck. yeah.

the sound of his delphox laying waste to another challenger, echoes off the cavern walls. hints of flames and violet bursts of physic energy reflect off their shimmering surfaces. he avoids looking directly at any of it.

with a subtle non-chalance, he captures the nidoqueen, and trains his gaze onto mint's challenger.

"i hear their packages can be pretty explosive."

he almost groaned himself at the small joke.

Despite complaints, his new friend was starting to get used to the cold. The adrenaline that pumped when wild pokemon came at you in the wild was doing its job at keeping them warm. He watched the Delphox move onto the next opponent while Gelatto, in contrast, made sure to round back to him after each encounter was over. “Well, if you think about it, we’re kinda barging into their home and breaking their stuff?” and by breaking their stuff he meant their bones, probably. He stared at the Delphox’s attacks, watching embers flicker off them like will-o-wisps. Before the Nidoqueen can even charge at them, he’s already taken care of it. Gelatto is visibly intimidated. Mint tried to distract his friend, pointing at the Delibird strolling through. “Go get it, Gelatto.” He said, urging the Ninetails forward before turning over to look at his companion. “Bet, this fight will be a blast for him then!” Mint said, grinning as he tried to get back at Greyson with a pun of his own. He didn’t watch Gelatto ragdoll the smaller ice type before chucking him over by Mint. [break][break]

the earth quaking roar that echoes through the cavern of ice, forces him to sigh. heavily. with delphox around, he feels no fear, even from the massive bear that approaches rapidly. it releases a torrent of blizzard from it's maw, exploding violently against the LIGHT SCREEN produced by his delphox.

he urges, hoping the witch would listen. with a huff of contempt, she does - kind of. combining both mystical flame, and shadow ball, the dual-infused elemental orb collides with the beartic's chest.

it isn't concious long, and greyson captures it shortly after, grumbling something beneath his breath.

Mint held up to peace signs at his new friend. “Do it, she’s a psychic type right? Gelatto needs the exercise.” He said, unafraid pf a swarm of cave pokemon coming to beat him up for breaking and entering. Gelatto let out a whine at the comment, not looking forward to fighting anything more is he didn’t need to. He didn’t think his trainer needed to aggravate strange pokemon any further. At this he watched the Beartic charge as the other duo, calm and collected as ever. Mint, meanwhile, felt himself grinning excitedly as the Delphox rebuffed the wild pokemon. Then the tinkling of another pokemon captured his attention and he watched a sentient snowcone amble towards them. It seemed harmless enough, until I began making a terribly loud noise. It’s garbled and mangled as it echoed through the cave. Mint barely had time to cover his ears before he shouted. “Silence it!” Gelatto was already on the move, upset at the noisy attack and beginning to counterattack the Vanillish. He slammed it into a nearby wall, interrupting its Uproar before Mint quickly threw a pokeball at the damn thing. He readied a second one in case it popped back out, but thankfully it stayed put. He managed to turn to Greyson before offering a smug, “And it’s sweet, sweet, sweet victory. Yeah?”

And it was theirs for the taking.
