the exodus project had been an opportunity for teams to come together. while lulu specialized more in the world of energies, she was now working closer than ever with rocket’s top pokémon scientists and researchers.

perhaps most notable of them was Kano Iyona —also, if sources checked out, something of an explosives expert. meaning they had something interesting in common. she had a tendency to steer clear of many of the biologists. she was a person of power and violence, and turned a blind eye to things like the environment and preservation.

surely, it took a different, special kind of person to have such an understanding of life as some of these scientists, while also maintaining such a well-fed interest in the impactful nature of destruction.

it was why she’d invited one such acquaintance on board another project.

oscar clayton ’s perpetual motion machine—originating from silph co. blueprints they’d received from FERNANDO SILPH in exchange for the infinity energy generator prototype—needed a coolant.

in one of the labs kano might have been more familiar with, the head scientist waited, and sipped a mug of coffee. a castform hovered over the closest table, equally as patient. or maybe just scared in place.

Dressed in a white lab coat covering a black shirt underneath that has stained with a coffee stain from this morning, walking at a hurried pace bringing along her baggage filled with the various necessary equipment that she is going to do with one of the head scientists, Lulu Flint. Opening the lab grandiosely yet a poker face can be seen on her face as the door opened. Miss Lulu was lounging leisurely with a cup of coffee in her hand waiting for her arrival and she can clearly see a Castform behaving similar to what a Tauros would do whenever they got butchered for their meat - Although, Kano presume that the intensity of the stress between the analogy and what the Castform might have been facing right now could be different. [break][break]

"Greetings, Miss Lulu. Thanks for the invitation" Kano exchanges short greetings and gratitude as her eyes quickly hover to the specimen. "So, you want me to find out the mystery behind the adaptability of the Castform, huh? Before I go forward with some tests - I want to ask you something. How attached are you to this Castform? Depending on the possible results, there is a higher chance for this particular pokemon to die but that risk will also raise the possibility of a breakthrough" Kano asks Lulu, putting all of her equipment to the nearest empty table. Waiting for the answer.

while she waited, she was left alone. no one wished to cross paths with her in this quarter, be it out of distaste, intimidation, or simply disinterest. she tended not to talk much with them either, practically a stranger behind emails. everything communicated through the system.

in the empty, lonely lab, from the door, it was easy to hear the footsteps approach—each one part of a countdown to advancement.

the door opened, and there stood her new colleague. lulu nodded, the greeting returned evenly, efficiently: “iyona.”

sharp amber eyes followed the equipment that was set down, as they dove straight into verbal consent forms. her steely face cracked into the smallest smile.

“all pokémon are for the glory of rocket, are they not?” they were tossing them into a fire down the hall. “do what you need to do.”

Kano nods after hearing the answer, while it is not actually necessary to kill the specimen but depending on the test that she conducts through a series of hypotheses - There is a chance for her to kill the specimen to find the answer. "Good, I want you to be my assistant throughout the test," Kano informs Lulu as she pulls down the plastic gloves to her hand and squirts some air out from the syringe. She turns on a recorder on her phone as she starts to do the first test, "Okay, test one will be commencing. Analyzing the compound of the Castform's blood to see if there is a factor within it to play a part in their adaptability" Kano announces the first hypothesis that she created since she enters the room and draws some of Castform's blood with the syringe. "Miss Lulu, I want you to take care of the image documentation over the blood image under the microscope. I will be putting the blood to the microscope now" Kano informs and put the blood to the palette and push it to a high-tech microscope where the display is being displayed on the nearest wall with high clarity. Kano observes the blood cell and everything trying to determine an anomaly of its structure. Occasionally, she plays around with the zoom lens and orders Lulu to take a picture of it. Kano jots down some notes and compares the picture that Lulu take from one to the other to find nothing significant. [break][break]

"Test one comes out with a failure." Kano declares as she turns off the microscope and takes out the blood palette and lets out a sigh. "If you have any feedback, feel free to voice out your opinion - Miss Lulu." Kano ponders as she is preparing for the next test.

she stood back, only interfering to assist where she was instructed. the image of the blood was documented, as well as their disappointing first conclusion.

lulu’s eyed the castform and then back at kano.

”regretfully, i’ll admit i’m not versed enough to give you much feedback, iyona. my specialty lies in how to utilize a pokémon’s powers, not in how or why they exist in the first place.”

she sighed, and shifted, crossing her arms. ”surely this adaptation is coded within its genetics somewhere. we just need to know where to look, right?”

"Umu, umu..." Kano nods, taking her specialties in mind. "That is what I have expected to. Initially, I thought that genetics lays on the blood but unfortunately, it is not" Kano mentions the small setback. Her eyes suddenly widened after reading the information of Castform capabilities. "Don't tell me..." Kano quickly put Castform to a machine that simulated different kinds of weather. Looking at how it changes its outward appearance to adapt, a strike of idea appears on her brain. Kano takes out the Castform from the machine and cut part of its skin with varieties of thickness levels to it. [break][break]

Her eyes widened as she inspect the layer of skin under the microscope, "eureka!" Kano announced, putting the skin to the previous machine and seeing that the skin changes under the different water. Under her observation, she notices a parasite-like organism that lives near the skin of Castform that lives mutualistically with the host. As it changes form to adapt to the weather by rearranging its own molecular structure, it also gives benefit to the Castform itself. "The key of its changing form is due to this organism that lives in a mutualism relation with the Castform. I'd say that if you can bioengineer the parasite to build a mutualism relation with your coolant, it should serve your purpose" Kano mentions from her observation. Extract the organism from the layer of the skin and put it on the microscope, wanting to observe it further.
