it's a simple mission, really. where the league might find strength in numbers, rocket, or theo's unit, in particular, thrive off operating on their own accord.

they're split up, each assigned to their own group of gardevoir.

the one in front of theo, unfortunately, is being watched by an eager lieutenant. he doesn't recognize the man, but it doesn't matter.

"go."

a naganadel drops from the clouds, spilling its VENOM DRENCH all over delphox and the gardevoir.

'In position,' he says. Where'd they find this guy? And where could she find more of him? Hard-working, follows instruction, clearly experienced in the field.

"Yep."

She says back, though there is a hint of a chuckle in her tone. On her side, with her own group, she leans against a tree and watches as the League officers shuffle about. They're nearly aimless, but she can detect some semblance of a pattern. They've been out here so long their bored out of their minds.

But just as a voice comes over a radio from one of the individuals in the clearing, she springs at the word go whispered in her ear.

"You got it, boss."

Before 'Delta' can respond, the entire clearing is smothered in a dense, poisonous.... BELCH. It, combined with the Skuntank's STENCH masks their arrival for the most part. Remi wears a sort of scarf or bandana over her nose to avoid breathing too much of it in. Thankfully, the guards aren't, so they crumble to their knees gasping and choking.

Turns out, the Gardevoir aren't too happy being poisoned either.

silence keeps the lieutanant on edge. eyes narrow, and he flits his gaze all around him purposefully, cautiously. it catches the faint outline of the team in question, collapsed and choking. just then, a massive presence bursts through the clouds above, and his hackles rise.

"autumn!"

their extensive teamwork kicks in immediately as the sky darkens, and a poisonous fog advances. a paw shoots into her mess of fur, revealing a gnarled wooden wand. the coy eyes of the fox widen, and a massive burst of PSYCHIC energy expands around them in a sphere, meeting both advancing attacks and nullifying them against her barrier in one swoop.

his eyes don't come off the ultra-beast. someone interesting had come to play.

he speaks into the com systems in his ear, hands moving to the orbs at his waist.

"this is officer connors. we are under attack in sector delta. ultra beast sighting confirmed. i repeat, ultra beast sighting confirmed. requesting backup."

in an instant, three more pokemon take the field. two comfey and a salamence. one wraps itself the dragon's horn, the other, his loyal companion ellie, wraps around his wrist.

"xav ⁠— to the skies! hold that beast off! autumn, we provide protection on the ground."

whoever these people were, they would find greyson no waiting prey.

before the salamence can even take off, a strong DRAGON PULSE crashes into it as naganadel roars overhead, continuing to circle around them like a predator would its feast.

"this one's a pain."

which is his way of saying: help would be appreciated.

Ultra beast sighting? What in the-- Where--?

This wasn't what she'd signed on for. Regular, routine poaching? Sure, that was easy. But throwing an Ultra beast into the mix? That wasn't on her agenda of things she'd like to do today.

It doesn't occur to her, at first, that the Ultra beast belongs to her admin.

Over the radio in her ear, she hears Theo mutter the words 'this one's a pain'. It prompts her to glance back over her shoulder and witnesses the purple abomination flying circles in the sky. Her first thought is to grimace and run the other way-- but.

"What, can't handle it solo?"

Her sarcastic tone is biting, but she whistles and runs back to catch up with Theo, Skuntank in tow.

the ultra beast is no stranger to a battle, and it shows. but neither is greyson. almost immediately after wrapping around the dragon's horn claire erects a FLOWER SHIELD, staving away the brunt of the blast. it's still powerful enough to keep her grounded, initially, but as the attack breaks, so too does it's hold. should she be able to take flight this time, a powerful flamethrower meets the realm hopping beast.

still grounded, his delphox works to quickly ferry the other psychic-type pokemon out of harms way. their shared mental link assists in this, allowing them to route with significant more ease, once an understanding has been come too.

greyson can't help but think, despite this, the worst is yet to come.

and there'll be no need for him to call out more pokemon. at least not right now. he's still testing the waters, unsure of just how strong this 'officer connors' is.

naganadel is relentless. it sends another DRAGON PULSE through the FLAMETHROWER that licks away at its underside.

That had to be a first, honestly. Hearing a man say they'd like to finish 'faster'.

He might be able to hear her laughing over the radio.

"Well. Alright then."

However, as she approaches the scene of their in-progress crime, Remi chooses to pursue the Gardevoir they're meant to be rounding up. Seeing as, after all, that is the entire point of their operation.

And so, when she notes the Delphox leading those merry little ladies astray, well.. That just cannot be.

"Get in there, Skuntank!"

The Pokemon bounds forward a few paces before twisting quickly, tail shivering, as stinky, sticky TOXIC sludge sprays from its butthole, splashing against every surface.

the DRAGON PULSE rages through and past the torrent of flames, landing against the salamence's flank with brutal disregard. claire's FLORAL HEALING applies the appropriate triage, leaving the dragon to focus solely on her prey. it roars in an INTIMIDATING challenge, before it closes the distance to rend it's flesh with powerful DRAGON CLAWS.

on the ground, autumn reacts quickly to the new, massive skuntank. another powerful barrier of PSYCHIC keeps the TOXIC from hitting them, though some does find holes wide enough to splash against the roaming psychic-types behind. a shout of frustration, and effort, pulses the wave out and back at the new pokemon.

a voice comes over the radio, then. it's breathy, hurried.

"reinforcement five minutes out."

it's not loud enough for the naganadel to hear, but it definitely is for the two pokemon around him.

from a distance, something shoots out at officer connors. wisps of green and white energy lash out at the officer as decidueye attempts to SPIRIT SHACKLE the officer to the ground.

and if that's not enough, the pangoro that leaps out at them charges to try and throw its BULLET PUNCH into the officer's body.

overhead, naganadel continues battling the salamence, fending off its DRAGON CLAW with a vomit of SLUDGE WAVE.

The PSYCHIC, while effective, is only a temporary wall. The TOXIC sludge splashes up the length of it, but finds holes or burns its way through anyway. It splashes against unsuspecting and unprotected Gardevoir, crippling them.

And when the TOXIC is pushed back at the Skuntank, the Pokemon wades through it willingly, happy to coat itsel fin its own filth. Neither it nor the psychic energy being thrown around seem to faze the Pokemon in the slightest.

Targeting the POISONED Gardevoir, Skuntank sends pulses of VENOSHOCK to deepen the toxin and make it hurt all the more. Like an unstoppable force, Skuntank continues to push forward, fully intent on overcoming the Delphox as instructed.

In the background, Theo's battle against the officer rages on.

there's a glint, a momentary refraction of light, before the SPIRIT SHACKLE flies in-between his legs and imbeds itself into the grass below. he hasn't a moment to think, before wisps of energy solidify into chains, wrapping his left leg into a tight binding. "fuck," he breathes, hissing between clamped teeth.

if only that'd been the end of it.

"ellie!" he screams, reaching for a pokeball, just as the pangoro readies its fist. the BULLET PUNCH collides against the FLOWER SHIELD, shattering it, but doing no further harm. now, under attack from three different fronts, he resorts to the nuclear option. the zeraora takes the field in a run, already leaping to land PLASMA FISTS directly into the chest of the pangoro.

not too much further away, the skuntank's disregard for autumn doesn't go unnoticed. was it arrogance? confidence? neither option would really change her opinion. beneath it, opening like a portal to hell, MYSTICAL FIRE soars up in a devastating column.

above them, the strategy continues, another well-placed FLOWER SHIELD blocks the SLUDGE WAVE of the ultra beast, allowing the salamence to continue unabated to, this time, land a CRUNCH around the invaders throat.

in a blink of an eye, decidueye disappears, reappearing only to throw a SUCKER PUNCH to intercept zeraora's PLASMA FISTS. electricity courses, dancing along decidueye's feathers as it braces against the pain. it flutters back, knowing it's done its duty.

and its duty is what allows pangoro to continue its assault on young officer connors.

another BULLET PUNCH, this time to the officer's gut.

up above, naganadel roars in pain. its body vibrates in an unfamiliar intensity, and from the depths of its soul comes a DRAGON PULSE that booms from its scales.
