Jessie really didn't like the Rocket sub. She found it rather uncomfortable and cramped. Not to mention it was under water. She wondered why some of the Rockets wanted to actually live there.

Typical rich girl questions.

However, she had been requested to figure out what exactly some weird sounds were, and she was to accompany another Rocket member in doing so. A ghost hunt? Sounded fun to her!

Looking around the community courtyard, Jessie recognized someone who seemed to be waiting.

"Heyo! Are you my partner for the night?"

Izzy didn't often feel like a particularly lucky person - he'd lived the majority of his life with very few dollars to his name, he'd never been great at socialising or making friends - hell, he couldn't even grow a beard.[break][break]

But at least he didn't have to live on the sub.[break][break]

The place freaked him out at the best of times - who'd want to live surrounded by water and sweaty grunts all the time? His apartment was small and uncomfortable and awkward, and the power went out all the time, and sometimes the roof would leak in the corner if it rained too hard. But at least it was a place all to his own. Even if was paid for with blood money.[break][break]

The idea that the submarine was now making weird sounds only made things worse. This place had a grim enough atmosphere at the best of times, and as if to make matters worse, he'd been partnered with... some plucky, pretty girl that he tried hard not to look directly at, like she was sunlight.[break][break]

The noise stuff. That was funny. But he had a point.

Jessie nodded, looking around as the walls around them creaked a it. It was certainly spooky, but it didn't seem to bother her that much, despite her not living on the sub like her companion.

In fact, it sparked a bit of excitement.

"Yep, that's me. Jessie's the name. Nice to meet ya."

She offered him a bright smile, her Delphox coming to stand behind her.

"What do you think's going on? Just some bad mechanics? Old sub? Ghosts?"

Jessie wiggled her fingers and made a noise after the last question, as if emphasizing that ghosts could absolutely be a possibility.

"Jessie. Right. I'm Izzy" Just a quick, polite nod at that - Izzy wasn't exactly one to be all smiley and shake hands when introducing himself to other people.[break][break]

At her suggestions, he took the time to look around as she had just a few seconds earlier at the walls of the sub. It creaked and moaned like some old beast, but it pretty much always did that, so nothing seemed super weird just yet.[break][break]

"I do a little bit of mechanics stuff, so I guess if it's that I might be able to sort it out..."[break][break]

After glancing around in a full circle he draws his gaze back to the pink-haired Jessie, and realised she was, uh... adorably wiggling her fingers at him. "Well... I mean... it might actually be ghosts, to be fair. There was a bunch of 'em moved into an old house outside Slateport recently, too..."[break][break]

Depends on the noises they hear as they explore, he supposed. Maybe it would be something nice after all this worry - a gentle dinging of a lost Chimecho, or something.

So he didn't seem to be that much of a stick in the mud. Or, at least, his answer didn't convey that he was a terribly boring person.

Jessie shrugged, looking around again.

"I'd love to catch a ghost or two. Not Pokemon. I mean, actual ghosts. You know..."

She made some sort of attempt to get lower and be creepy.

"The ones that people say aren't real. That will haunt you till your dying days... wouldn't that be so cool?"

As she lowered her body and her voice to act all spooky, Izzy raised a brow. In all honesty, he almost laughed, meeting her eepy-creepiness with a puff of air from his nose, the kind of "laugh" you'd do at a twitter post you scroll past at 3am.[break][break]

"Right... I mean, I guess that'd be cool. As long as you don't get scared"[break][break]

It sounded a little mean, but the intent was a joke more so than anything else. Izzy begins to wander down a corridor, looking back at her for a sec.[break][break]

"Come on, let's see if we can find anything weird. If it's an actual, actual ghost, maybe we can exorcise it or something."[break][break]

Something about that seemed to thrill Jessie. At least, for now, it didn't bother her that they were on the hunt for ghosts that were potentially ruining the Rocket sub. You know, the thing that was keeping them all from drowning.

No big deal.

"Let's check out this area first."

Without even asking or considering invading his space, Jessie grabbed his wrist, tugging him along behind her.

"Like the..." He frowns a little - was this just some game to her? Sure, the ghosts were probably harmless, but if some great Gengar leapt at out them, Izzy wasn't too sure he'd be as excited as Jessie seems to be. "...sure, like the movies, yeah."[break][break]

She leads the way, grabbing his wrist and pulling him along like a little kid. "You don't-" He begins to protest, but follows along anyways as she leads him off. The room she pulled them to seemed quiet. Almost... suspiciously so. "Hm..." He glances around the room.[break][break]

"I'm gonna look around. Let me know if you find anything weird, or get possessed."

Jessie gave him a look, like she was wondering why he was doubting her. Did he not expect ghosts to be like in the movies? Sure, ghost-types were a thing, but in her mind it was a little more like...

You know. The spirits of dead people or Pokemon, coming back to haunt the living, all misty-looking and pale. See-through.

"What? Is there a problem?"

Not a challenge, but a genuine question as she looked around. It was quiet, but of course, Jessie didn't really pay much mind to it.

"What, you're leaving me alone? Lame."

She let go of his wrist, going off in a separate direction. She trudged along, looking around with an occasional whistling of a tune until something caught her eye. A rolling ball, abandoned in the courtyard from where someone must have played with it.

"You kick a ball?"

Ghosts weren't ooky-spooky poltergeists like in the movies, as far as Izzy was concerned - they were pokémon with sad little stories that had died and turned into a tree stump or whatever. There was enough to be afraid of in the sub without thinking about actual demons and unspoken horror monsters living amongst them, too.[break][break]

"Nah, it's just... you really believe all that?"[break][break]

He rubs his wrist a little as she separates from him, checking out some corner that might be perfect for a lonely trouble-making ghost to burrow its way into, only for Jessie to call out something again.[break][break]

"Hm? Ball?"[break][break]

He looks over and catches it rolling along, tilts his head for a sec, then frowns at her.[break][break]

"Har har, very funny."[break][break]

Playing a joke on him by talking about spooky movie monsters then making it look like the courtyard's haunted? Oldest trick in the book.

"What's wrong with believing things? It makes life more fun, doesn't it?" she prompted.

However, it seemed like he didn't believe her about the ball. She furrowed her brow, looking at the ball as it finally rolled to a stop.

"I didn't kick it..."

So, there had to be a ghost in there somewhere, right? She looked around, tossing out her ARCANINE to join her DELPHOX.

"Take a look around. See if you guys can find something."
