FROM THE ASHES AND INTO THE FIRE

FEAR NOT the pokemon that lands one well placed attack. for it is the one who lands hit after hit that uses determination to whittle its way into victory. at a certain point, the burn marks start to give way and the threaten of cracking tapu’s shell becomes a possibility.

pain becomes fuel for anger. and the rage of the island deity starts to surface. MISTY TERRAIN is a powder keg that congeals into something more. the GUARDIAN OF HOENN, a spectral representation of the pokemon’s wrath.

“return.”

fernando reclaims the pokemon into a pokeball prepared for the otherwise independent legendary. the battle has already been decided. there’s no need to see it out—conclusion forthcoming.

gym battles are an assessment and greyson has graduated.

he has earned his dues.

the DISCHARGE nets only empty air, dispersing into small sparks that glitter and die off as it becomes grounded. greyson blinks, recalling that this wasn't a battle of attrition, but one of survival. he could feel the tension in the air prior to the recall of the legendary and he's reminded of the explosion of energy atop mt. chimney that fateful day.

the buzz of excitement at his victory is delayed as that thought trickles through, but when it finally does, his smile widens. his own pokemon is returned to his orb with the promise of a later celebration, and he approaches the councilman with a hand extended.

memories of their first battle no longer exist. they’re like the lingering twinge of electricity that have nothing to ground themselves on. with its purpose done, there’s no reason to dwell back.

it fades because it is inconsequential. the only reason fernando knows this is greyson’s second challenge is because it flags previous records when setting up his appointment. and, as expected, greyson makes due with his second chance.

his prize is being accepted as an equal. not as colleagues, not as acquaintances, but as trainers.

the SILPH BADGE sits in the palm of his hand, exchanged when fernando accepts his gesture with as much zeal as his image can muster.
