'marshy' scowled at king, swatting him with the notebook as she moved to wander off. as she did, her face softened upon catching nina's attention.

"yer not tryna take this place from me 'r ye?" he grabbed one of the glasses of water she'd brought, drinking a small portion through the straw, "she hates it when people add or take stuff off of 'er burgers." small holes in the wall, especially this one, had a pride about their menus.

her honesty forces king to look at her — really look at her. his fingers fiddle with a packet of sugar, thumbing it between two fingers, as his mind works. his expression is more serious than usual; solemn in a way.

"rocket's not good people," he says finally, teeth clenching as he swallows saliva, "sounds obvious i know, but ye need ta understand that. they're not good fer people that 'r just tryna get by." petty crime was one thing, but what he's seen rocket personally...

the sound of encroaching footsteps, and mumbling tyrades in a language he didn't know, signal them that their food was here. whatever reply he has for her, is put on hold.

"thanks, marshy." click of his cheek, and a precarious wink, is met only with a scowl. after she wanders off, he lifts the patty of his burger, ensuring everything is correct.

"ye, ye, i get it," he says, sighing lightly, "yer just another one of those "i don't know anythin' else" types. ye guys 'r a dime a dozen, and, almost always get over yer head."

his own appetite had taken a turn for the worse, the more he thought about rocket, and his situation as a whole. he still tried to eat his burger, just like nina.

king takes a bite between his question, and her answer. his throat clears at her sentiment of thanks, a heavy swallow forcing down the remains of food not nearly as chewed as he'd like.

a fist pounds his chest, and he puts the newly sipped water back down on the already wet napkin.

"thanks fer what? savin' ye? nah, anyone woulda done that."

as she attempts to thank him again, he puts his fingers over his earlobes and folds them in. it's followed shortly by... "la la la la la."

once he's well and truly satisfied, he releases his grip and picks up a fork. with a swift stab at a french fry, he points it at her, gaze bouncing.

"look, first rule of rocket - thank no one. next thing ye know, people'll start askin' shit of ye. ye don't want that."

he jabs the food in his mouth, and turns to look at something on the wall, a heat rising in his cheeks.
