Piece by piece her walls crumble down, much to his surprise. He didn't mind that Lilith was more on the defensive side. Truthfully, he would be too if he were in her shoes. Actually they practically are, constantly watching his back for certain strangers, worried one day he’ll fall back into his old miserable life. He just.. has a bit more freedom regarding the situation. [break][break]

Her words, erratic and clumsily spoken as they are, touch his heart.[break][break]
The development from not wanting to recognize him, to comforting him of all things? That can’t have been easy for her.[break][break]
Toshiaki takes hold of both her hands, handles all her scars and calluses with utmost care, as he too knew the pain of carrying heavy burdens. [attr="class","hanatext"]Why is she letting him back into her life? Why is she out here trying to comfort him instead of sending him on his way? There are many questions that might be raised in her mind, but none of it stands out as much as the fact that she doesn't instinctively push him away when he gets close.

Perhaps, her senses have dulled. Perhaps, she's just too caught up in her thoughts to react to it in time. Before she can even process it, he's kissing her forehead and promising her that he'll stay by her side. What is she meant to say when he's being this honest?

"Don't make promises like that so easily..." She mutters, gently pushing him away. "It'll get you in trouble someday."

Ice encases her heart, guards it and defends from any attackers on the outside. Even those she might even call friends. This breaks him, unable to know what’s affected her this badly, and not being able to fix it. Though, Toshiaki perfectly understands pretty words don’t always pacify the worry in one’s injured heart. False promises, pretty little lies, they’ve been used against him practically all his life, too. [break][break]
“Maybe you’re right.” He smiles bittersweetly, after all, he couldn’t protect her all the time, from what’s happened. “But I’ll prove it to you, no matter how long it takes. You of all people know just how stubborn I am.”[break][break]
That being said he respects her personal space and backs up some, before shuffling for something inside his backpack. It’s a small spiral notepad. He’s scribbling down something, then cleanly rips out a page, handing it to her. [break][break]

[attr="class","hanatext"]There's a tiny part of her that wonders if she's gone too far, if she's a little too wary against someone who she's meant to deem a friend... When she tries to speak, she finds no words to explain it. Her thoughts are sharp as razors and will most definitely cut if she speaks.

"I'll keep that safe then..." She murmurs, taking the note before it somehow gets shoved right into her hands. With one final pat of the Togepi's head, the last drops of milk are cleaned from the bowls. Lilith takes a sip of her hot chocolate and sets it down, then quietly gets to her feet.

"The drink was as good as you say... so thank you..."

Her foxes look to her, before bumping shoulders with the Togepi and hopping right off the couch.

"I'll... message you sometime... when I'm ready..."

There’s a tiny part of him that’s deathly afraid. A part of himself that worries that if Lilith leaves right now out of his sight, that he may never see her again. However, that’s an outcome completely for her to decide, and as such, one he would have to live with if that’s what she really wanted.[break][break]
Indulging in the warmth of the store together with her Toshiaki finishes up his drink, Togepi snuggled contently by his side. It’s little mundane moments like this that he had cherished the most. Togepi, polite as can be, waves goodbye to Lilith and her Pokemon. [break][break]
Toshiaki smiles and lifts the small egg Pokemon in his arms. His tender expression is warm, but also a tad distant as if that’ll keep the thin ice they’re on more stable. He can hope. [break][break]
