“Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen to the14th annual Devon Corp Childhood Charity Fundraiser!” the MC announced over the quieting of a live band in one corner to the gigantic ballroom. The entire space was decked out in beautiful, intricate Christmas decorations. Strings of lights hung from the ceiling twinkle gently to imitate a starry night sky. Large swatch of white cotton had been piled into the corners to give the appearance of shoveled snow. An entire battalion of waiters and waitresses moved with grace and ease throughout the giant party room delivering drinks and finger foods to the rich and elite. A large stage at one end of the room was light up and decorated with wreaths and ribbons and tinsel. [break][break]

A perfect Winter wonderland, but like, temperature controlled. “We thank you all for making time this holiday season to join us. As you know, every winter Devon Corp tries to…” Behind the party, backstage as it were, groups of paid volunteers rushed to and from setting up and triple checking the list of merchandise ready to be wheeled out in front of the millionaires. [break][break]

Andres made use of his muscle, moving back and forth heaving displays and setting them carefully on top of carts for each reindeer or Santa to cart it out before the crowd and back. It’s lousy work, and Andres is already working up a sweat. Thankfully, it’s easy enough to cool down. The Santa suit he’d been given didn’t come with a beard or a shirt. At the very least, they’d given him pants. He couldn’t say the same for the more feminine volunteers who were stuck baring their legs for the investors to see. But it was all for the kids and if enticing pervy businessmen to open their wallets with hot models was the way to do it then so be it. [break][break]

That being said, he is relieved their fates aren’t like those of the Stone sisters. As the MC announced, “And finally, form the Stone Family themselves, to show their commitment to the children, the Stone Family has decided to donate not just their money, but their time as well.” The space suddenly cleared as the guests of honor moved onto the stage dressed to the nines in something Andres could tell would have taken him 10 lifetimes to pay back. “Our final auctioned prizes of the night, and evening with ANA STONE , DAPHNE STONE , and Emma Stone!” The applause is a little more intense as the three women stepped down from the stage and took seats nearby. Then the stage manager is snapping his fingers again and Andres began moving into position, ready to cart out the first item of the night.

“Well, at least it’s easy money, right, boni-Luka!?” He stumble over his words recognizing a familiar pinkette taking up her position next to him as his partner in presenting the first bidding option.

The venue is beautiful, a winter wonderland trimmed with holly and illuminated by twinkling fairy lights. The soft strains of an orchestra float through the air, playing merry Christmas music, and the centerpiece of the venue, a giant, dazzling Christmas tree, delights all those who pass by it. It seems that everyone is feeling the spirit of the season tonight, except one person.[break][break]

Luka Chêne is in a bad mood.[break][break]

Her sweet disposition hides it well, but a roiling brew of unpleasant emotion is tucked away behind her sweet smiles and warm eyes. But annoyance, that ever-present loneliness, and frustration, in more ways than one, form a bitter cocktail in the pit of her stomach. She feels like a wind-up toy with a spring turned too tight; set her off, and watch her explode.[break][break]

Seeing Andres again is the last straw. His avoidance of her at the snowboy event had made it clear that he wants nothing more to do with her, and it still hurts. But she'd get over it— at least, if he wasn't popping up all over the place! Can't she catch a break even once? It takes every ounce of control for her to bite her tongue and keep from shouting at him.[break][break]

"Mm. Good evening, Monsieur."[break][break]
Her voice is flatly polite with no emotion behind it. "Don't shout. We need to be onstage soon."[break][break]
Luka sighs, pointedly looking away, and fidgets with her costume before their cue to step out. Like the rest of the volunteers hers is little more than glorified lingerie, gussied up with holiday motifs. Soft curves threaten to spill out of a fur-lined bustier, and her little skirt barely covers her behind. It's embarrassing, but it doesn't matter. It's all for the kids, right?[break][break]

Andres' height gives him a perfect bird's eye view as she bends to adjust a garter and straighten the antlers perched atop her head. But she's still trying her best to ignore him, and only acknowledges his existence again once their cue approaches.

He isn’t quite sure what he expected from Luka when he met up with her, but he knew any reaction she had would make him feel awful. This response? She seemed tense and her words almost politely clipped from whatever she’d wanted to say in her gut reaction. Probably any number of hurtful things, really. Not that it matter. He absolutely deserved her ire. If there was one thing Andres Buenaventura had always been good at, it was running away. [break][break]

“I- uh…yeah sure.” He said trying not to frown too hard as she barely glanced his way. He’d been wanting to avoid seeing her, if only because anything he said probably wouldn’t make much sense or mean much. He didn’t make much sense at the end of the day. He was kind of just an asshole. But no one cared about tha.t Much less Luka. He couldn’t offer her a concrete explanation except he felt icky about the whole affair. [break][break]

While Luka tried to avoid looking at him, Andres can’t help but take his eyes off her. They’d been friends after all and had hung out a lot. He hadn’t seen her in a while. Has she changed her hair? Maybe it’d grown out a little bit. Did she get more freckles form that Snowboys thing? Did bloating during your period affect your breasts as well? He felt a cold bead of sweat run down the back of his neck before he forced himself to look away from the pinkette. “If…if the antlers keep moving, I saw some of the girl’s attach it better with bobby pins.” He offered. “S…Same for the tail bit on the skirt.” Before he could embarrass himself further their cue is called and Andres let out a fake laugh, forcing himself to smile as they moved the auction item to the stage together.

If Luka could hear Andres' thoughts he'd be getting a lot more than the cold shoulder.[break][break]

Did bloating during your period affect your breasts as well? He deserves the chair for that one!!! Unforgivable! Inexcusable! Andres Buenaventura needs to be put down![break][break]

But all she hears is a bit of unsolicited advice. Normally she'd think it sweet, would thank him with a smile and a happy blush. Now, she's just annoyed. "I'll keep that in mind," is all she says before the pair walks out on stage. The same tail he'd advised her about bounces with every sashay of her hips.[break][break]

But as soon as spotlights are on them her entire demeanor changes. Lips that had been pressed in a firm line widen into a dazzling smile. She waves at the crowd, all bouncy and bubbly as their first auction item is showcased.[break][break]

It's some kind of rare gemstone- honestly, the details go right over her head. The auctioneer prattles on and Luka just keeps smiling even as her cheeks ache, as the fake fur tickles her thighs. She can feel eyes on her from the crowd, and from Andres to the other side of her. When their gazes meet her smile stays put, though her eyes narrow slightly.[break][break]

She doesn't like being mad at him. Though at this point, she's not even sure if she can really call it anger. It's disappointment and loneliness and smattering of shame. If she had held back, would they still be friends? Maybe she was so bad in bed that he never wanted to see her again! Frankly, it's the not knowing that makes it worse. And ghosting is so high school...[break][break]

Luka's so lost in her own thoughts that she doesn't realize the bidding is over until the gavel bangs. She snaps back with a jolt, nearly tripping over herself as she lurches forwards to help move the item backstage. Heels slip on the stage and she grabs at Andres for balance, pressed against his chest while a chuckle reverberates around the crowd.[break][break]

It's embarrassing, but that's fine. This time, Andres isn't getting away so easily.[break][break]

"Monsieur," she whispers, grabbing his arm as soon as they're offstage. Her nails are painted crimson and they dig into his bicep, though not hard enough to hurt. "We need to talk."

Hazel eyes are just slightly pinned on Luka as she stumbles through their first item. When the clicking of heels turns from a solid rhythm to a more erratic noise, he's ready. Half turning to try to help, but Luka's chest instead makes solid contact with his back and the crowd laughs at the clumsy reindeer girl. Andres smiles, pushing through and steadying her, before they both disappear behind the curtain.

"Are you-" he began politely only for Luka to grab his arm. He cuts himself off as she asserts the need for a conversation. Oh- Fuck. He paled at the thought, preferring to continue avoiding this whole mess. Maybe push through the awkward air until things turned back to normal. Honestly, never ever talking about it was an options as well.

But she's determined. And she shows a conviction he's never witnessed before so he doesn't rebuff her. Even though he really wanted to. "Uhh- s-sure Luka-" he murmured back as she led him away from the other models. There were quite a few pairs, they wouldn't need them for a while. "What about?"
