Although the holiday season was coming to a close, there still remained a distinct chill in the air left over from the artificial snow. Barnaby was bundled up against the weather, but figured having a little company to distract from the cold would help. Retrieving her Poké Ball from his coat, Barnaby released his lovely Bijou, the shiny Alolan NINETALES.

She materialized with as much grace and beauty as you'd expect from one of Barnaby's beloved Pokémon. He only retained the best, after all.

"Come along, love. Let's see what we can find."

With her at a heel by his side, the journalist continued his search for dragons; luckily, he didn't have to wait long. Unluckily, a slimy GOODRA appeared - the antithesis to whatever mighty beast he was looking for. Pass.

A rumbling beneath Barnaby's feet signaled the presence of... something. Something big. From a distance, he could see soil and rock shifting along a set path - one heading straight for him.

"Bijou! Prepare yourself!"

The NINETALES readied herself, muscles tense and braced to spring at a moment's notice. It didn't take long for that moment to come; like an underground missile, a huge GARCHOMP exploded from the earth just in front of her.

Bijou dodged out of the way in the nick of time, but it was a close call. With the monster revealed, Barnaby could see it eyeing them with its golden, predatory gaze. This thing was nothing like the GOODRA. A true beast.

Perfect.

"Ice Beam, now! Before it goes back under!"

They were in luck. The attack hit its mark, square in the chest. And with a 4x weakness to ice, it was a decisive blow. Barnaby quickly threw a ball in an attempt to capture the GARCHOMP.
