after her date with KING WAYLAND , she had decided to try out more of the same. this way seemed efficient at a glance.

”hi uri. i’m nina.” she smiled back, watching him adjust his collar. he was cute, at least. shots, though?

she blinked. ”uh… okay.” hers rose towards his. ”cheers.” bottoms up.

the togepi in her lap reached for a poke puff, and nina was quick to assist.

”are you having a good time so far?”

"i am, yeah! i was feeling a bit nervous since i don't really do this much, but this helps." he raises the empty shot glass, smiling. "and you seem really chill, so that helps as well."

it had been an interesting date.

she regarded the flapple that crawled onto his shoulder with a smile, but her attention was quickly absorbed by him again. she seemed really chill, he said. it felt weird, because they’d hardly said anything yet.

”oh. thanks. i’m glad. yeah, i’ve actually never done this before.” KING WAYLAND had been her first real date. the others had been for work. speed-dating? as the real nina larson, no less? totally uncharted territory.

”not yet. i’m afraid that if i name her something she doesn’t like, she’ll give me bad luck.” her eyes traveled from her togepi and back to the flapple again. ”what about your flapple?”

she watched him, scrutinizing his expression too hard for judgment. quickly, she saved, ”speed date.” and it wasn’t a lie.

bertrand the flapple held the spotlight with a beautiful shimmer, and as she stared, her thoughts ran. the clock was ticking, and she knew nothing about her first date yet. she needed to be quicker, she realized.

but, did she really want to connect with shots guy, anyways?

”he’s cute,” she smiled.

right. the point of all of these speed rounds is to find a connection, isn't it? and here they are wasting time with bertrand the flapple.

"i'm a detective in slateport. still feels kinda weird saying it as i just got promoted, but yeah, i investigate stuff."

and just when he finishes answering, people around them have started moving to their new pairings. he blinks, suddenly desperate.

"do you wanna grab a drink sometime so we can have an actual date? this went by really quickly."

and then, people were moving. shots guy with a clue was asking to meet again, and she nodded after a moment, ”sure. let me give you my number.” her manicure clicked as she made a grabbing gesture to request his phone. if he did hand it over, he’d receive a fake one.

scooping togepi up, she’d be on her way with a smile. ”nice meeting you, uri.”
