Still smug from his previous encounter and with Wolfgang's number still tucked safely in his pocket, Pace smiles to himself after the ding and waits for his next match.[break][break]

As the figure approaches, Pace stands and offers both a warm smile and a hearty handshake.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Pace. I hope you've been having fun tonight? Pretty crazy atmosphere, all of this, huh?" He gestures around to the miles of lace and prettiness that's been draped over everything.

“Tell me about it,” he remarked—well, well, this one was going to be easier tonight.

Unfortunately, his Glaceon was still sleeping so he was carrying the Ice-type in his other arm as he took the handshake and sat himself down.

“Sorry, my Pokémon’s sleeping. I can’t leave him anywhere,” he admitted with an embarrassed laugh.

Oh, and he almost forgot—

“My name’s Lars.”

"Hey, no worries - he's a cute little guy. This here's Shep, by the way" He taps the back of her feathers with one finger and she gives a friendly coo in response.[break][break]

"What kinda work do you do, Lars?" He beams at his date partner, curiosity sparkling in his eyes.

Reaching for one of the macarons, he didn’t care about nibbling, he just popped the entire thing straight into his mouth for a few moments.

This was, of course, a tactic to stall for just a little time as he gently placed the Glaceon on his lap. Boy the Ice-type would be surprised to wake up if he did.

“She’s a nice Pokémon, you should meet my friend some time,” he hummed once he was done with the macaron and reaching for a second one. “Has nothing but birds on the brain.”

And then the question about his work came up.

He wondered how long it would take for the other to realize that he was one of the Head Rangers…

“I work with the Rangers,” he replied as he tilted his head. “What about you? What do you do for a living?”

A ranger named Lars? Pace cocks his head a little. That's a hell of a coincidence. "Hm... guess that's makes two of us. I'm a ranger as well, stationed up near Fortree." He leans in a little, resting an arm on the table beside Shepset.[break][break]

“There’s a sanctuary of some kind over at Fortree, my friend owns that place. You got birds on the brain? He’s got even more birds on the brain, too,” he added with a bit of a snarky laugh as another macaron disappeared into the void.

And then—

He almost choked.

This made the Glaceon suddenly wake up and poke his head above the table, looking over at the Pidove and giving it the curious face, before turning his attention back to his human companion, who’d strangely gone silent.

Oof.

Okay, he’d definitely need to talk with Victor Wexler again after this! Check in on the Ranger Captains and all that.

He broke the potentially awkward silence a few moments later.

“The one and only.”

Pace laughs right back - sounds like a competition. Though to him, almost everything sounded like a competition. And if it involved proving that he loved birds more than someone else? The gloves were off.[break][break]

He raises his brow at Lars during the choke and silence, leaning forward a little and touching Lars' arm gently. "You okay?" Pace, as always, adores any opportunity for physical touch. "Guess I should be calling you boss, then, huh?" He smiles.[break][break]

Before he can say anything else, he remembers just how quickly the bell is creeping up on them. "You know, this might be a little blunt, but - I'd say you're one of the best looking people here tonight."[break][break]

Ding![break][break]

He beams, pulls out a piece of paper and scribbles his number down, sliding it across the table past Shepset to Lars.[break][break]

"Here. If you ever need anything. See y'around, boss"[break][break]

Just like that, off he goes.

“Y-yeah, I’ll be fine,” he recovered, coughing slightly after the macaron had finally gone down. “Almost went down the wrong way,” he added with an embarrassed chuckle.

The Glaceon made a purring noise, before blowing a little gust of cold wind across the table.

“Oh shit, please don’t call me boss outside work hours,” he added with another embarrassed laugh. “I want to keep business and personal time separate, you know.”

And then the cherry on top.

“Well, you’re going to have my number soon,” he continued with this unreadable smirk on his face as he took the card and pocketed it, before standing up and whistling for the Glaceon to follow him towards his next date.
