Cyg watched Mars hold the baby Espurr in his hands and couldn’t help but feel warmed by the sight; she was so distracted she didn’t notice the other Restraint Pokemon wandering into her path until Elisabet swooped down in front of her to move the child out of the way and save it from being kicked or stepped on. Despite being pushed out of harm’s way, being confronted by a very scary-looking floating gas cloud with murderer's hands and a lolling tongue caused Espurr to squint its eyes shut and start to cry; waves of uncontrollable psychic energy built up around it like a shield, sending rocks scattering and causing cracks in the mountain’s surface.

“Oh, jeez, no, no, hey, hey,” Cyg said, pushing Lis out of the way and kneeling down in front of the Espurr. “Hey, hey, it’s okay,” she reached her hands out to the Restraint Pokemon who made a keening noise and rushed into her arms. She picked it up and nestled it against her shoulder, where it peeked over and saw Mars’ Espurr; it reached its hands out and made a cooing noise.

“You’re okay Lis, you’re okay,” Cyg sing-songed, trying to comfort bother her saddened Haunter and the volatile little ESP-bomb she was rocking back and forth. “Everyone’s okay, you did a great job.” She was so focused on Espurr that she didn’t respond to Mars’ compliment.

She did file it away for later, though.

“The ‘traveling’ through dimensions things?” Cyg asked, still slightly singing in order to appease her Espurr, who kept reaching for Mars’ like its life depended on it.

Perhaps the sight of a second Espurr shouldn’t have come as a surprise, for felines seldom had a single cub, but it was the way in which the pokémon made its presence known – with wailing and waves of uncontrolled psychic energy – that startled the Rocket admin. Especially since it all caused the Espurr in his own arms to attempt to wiggle itself free, only seeming to calm down when the other small cat reached towards it.

”Huh… Looks like they may be siblings.” Adorable. Mars gave the Espurr he was holding a few affectionate pats as he spoke, stepping closer to Cygne so the pokémon could put a paw on the one in the woman’s arms. ”You’ll have to be careful with that… Espurr can produce really strong psychic power, but they rarely can control well before evolving.”

All the commotion seemed to have drawn the attention of a Gothita as small as the pair of cats, and Notus, apparently now in the mood to make friends (or maybe just being fond of smaller pokémon?) approached it while floating on his tail. He circles around it, exclaiming in greeting, and the Gothita seemed all too PSYCHED UP.

The two Espurrs grasped paws and the psychic tingling crawling up Cyg’s spine faded; she hadn’t even realized it’d been there. “Yeah, great,” Cyg said weakly, half wondering if maybe Mars wanted this one, instead. But she’d claimed responsibility of the little bundle of fur in her arms and that was apparently that.

While all their attention was on the Gothita, Cyg felt something hard rack off the back of her skull; she flinched with a yelp, hand over the area as she turned to see a Scraggy with a bundle of rocks in its loose… skin… pant… folds, whatever; it wound up and threw another one. Cyg dodged it, and Elisabet swooped in to deal with the Scraggy, which Cyg promptly shoved in a Pokeball.

“Asshole,” she muttered, rubbing the sore spot on the back of her head.

Out of all things Mars had expected to see when going down to the bottom of Mt. Chimney, a Scraggy that had gathered a bunch of rocks to throw at hikers was certainly not high up in the list. In fact, it wasn’t even in the list to begin with, but when he saw it, it made sense, and all he could really do was watch as ana fell’s Haunter dealt with the situation while trying to make sure that neither of the easily-startled Espurr in their arms got hit.

The question was meant for Cygne, obviously, and while he definitely noticed the Stufful trying to quickly wander out of sight up ahead, this one was one he didn’t bother with have Notus beat up for the sole sake of it.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” Cyg said, examining her fingertips for signs of blood. They were clear, thankfully, so once their twin Espurr were safely gathered up, the two of them could continue on their journey.

The Crabominable that wandered across their path made her pull a face. Ugly as it was, the five-foot-tall crab with bigfoot pillows for claws was an intimidating presence; she had Elisabet put it to sleep and collected it quickly.

“I think those are about the ugliest things to wander this great earth,” Cyg said, looking down at the Pokeball in deep thought. “What about you? What do you think is the ugliest Pokemon? Or your least favorite?”

ana fell had a point: without a doubt, Crabominable were one of the ugliest pokémon known to men.

Mars looked at the creature as it wandered into their path, and more than anything, he found himself glad that Cygne was quick to have her Haunter put it to sleep before throwing a pokéball at it… That way they wouldn’t have to keep looking at it. ”Oh, I agree. It’s Drapion for me, though… Never been a fan.”

Drapion were as ugly as they were nasty and mean.

The Slowpoke that appeared behind the Crabominable, though? Adorable in Mars’ book. Although apparently not adorable enough for him to spare it the horror of being hit with Notus’ RISING VOLTAGE after one command.

“Ooh, Drapion,” Cyg said, a hiss of distaste in her voice. “Yeah, not the most aesthetically pleasing. I think it has to do with the posture. Crabominable kind of has the same.” To demonstrate, she hunched her back and dangled her arms out wide, imitating pinching claws. “Skorupi’s cute, though. And Slowpoke, too,” Cyg added, watching Mars collect the little pink… binturong… thing.

Cyg decided to take a hot second to clamber up a big, spiky rock and see how much longer they had to the foot of the mountain-- Mars had to be getting tired of her by now. As she stood and covered her eyes against the sun, the stone began to move, and gradually unfurled into an irritated Chesnaught. “Woah-- jeez-- shit!” Cyg tipped backwards and bailed, landing on her feet and stumbling forward as the Spiny Armor Pokemon rose to its full height.

Before it could raise an arm to bash her, Elisabet zonked it out, and the already drowsy Pokemon crumbled and kicked up a cloud of dust when it crashed to the ground.

“This is why I don’t go adventuring,” Cyg said, putting the beast in a Pokeball for good measure.

The sound of Mars’ own laughter filled the air when Cygne attempted to imitate a Crabominable, doing a surprisingly good job at it too. ”Okay, you have a point. And yeah, Skorupi are adorable, but they’re better off not evolving.”

Chespin was another pokémon that, in Mars’ opinion, was better off as it was, but apparently Cygne liked Chesnaught enough to throw a pokéball at it… or was it just that she wanted to get it out of sight? Whatever the case, at least the grass type was a useful choice.

”Ha. Don’t worry, we should be reaching the foot of the mountain soon…” He would have known, considering how often he had walked this same path in search of Unown.

Sadly, it wasn’t a Symbol pokémon that appeared before him just as they reached the end of the path…

It was a Hawlucha attempting to use a FLYING PRESS on his Raichu.
[break][break]
For a moment, the Alolan electric type was pinned to the ground, struggling to break free, but in its struggle electricity was released… Which wasn’t too great for most Flying types, obviously. And, in this case, nor was the PSYCHIC attack that followed it.

Swiftly, the Hawlucha was dealt with.

”That was a long hike. Wanna grab a bite or something? My treat!” With these words, Mars smiled at Cygne.
