SLATEPORT NIGHTS die when the lights go out. every tick that brings the clock hand higher means less people out on the streets. businesses prepare for bed with gated shutters and locked doors. storefront blocks grow darker every time one closes.

heavy downpour means everyone holds an umbrella. discerning faces becomes difficult as they remain downcast, not unlike the weather. harsh winds provide some semblance of privacy as everyone looks to return home for the evening.

fernando is the exception.

the constant glare of headlights from passing cars shed the shadows from underneath his parasol. he stands at the corner of slateport’s sea-side market, waiting.

it’s been weeks since his last contact with Killian Decker. they’re long overdue. while things have undoubtedly been busy, he can’t help but suspect that maybe the man’s waned off his dependency on his MISTY TERRAIN.

it'd be good for him—if it wasn’t bad for business.

Slateport. The third worst place in all of Hoenn. Beaten out by Lilycove and Sootopolis for second and first, respectively. All three shared the same stale, sulphury smell Killian loathed. A nostril-burning scent worsened by the wind. [break][break]

Tonight, in this city of putrid aromas where dreams go to die, pieces moved on a board. Pawns and knights pushed into place against a king unaware of the game. [break][break]

Killian frowned, crossing the street to FERNANDO SILPH. A name he couldn't wait to burn from his memory. [break][break]

for a man so dependent on another, killian was never one to accept his fate. is it pride? or some desperate struggle to keep what’s left of his dignity. no matter how much he struggles, there is no denying the truth deep within his heart.

killian decker is a rat.

and fernando is his feeder. the supplier who gives him the one thing rocket can never provide: inner peace. through some sick twisted fate, the world found it acceptable to let the man who has everything hold dominion over killian’s only chance at peace.

fitting.

hidden in the rain, fernando remains unaware that tonight, killian will defy that fate. for all his misgivings and hard work, for every wrong that has been brought against him, there is one hidden blessing. deoxys—an arbiter that will allow him to alter his destiny for the better.

he just doesn’t know it yet.

fernando lifts his umbrella a few inches higher. the handle moves from chest level up until it reveals his face. narrow eyes stare compliment an unamused grimace.

“and your mind should feel that way right about now, decker.”

Ah, yes, Deoxys. The visitor from beyond the stars. Close to a year of searching, and now it was his. They were connected - mind and body. Beneath flesh and bone, inside his veins mixed with his blood, the creature lay. Through their bond came clarity. Limpidity that Fernando and his brume couldn't provide. A gust of wind to a pile of leaves, Deoxys freed Killian from his Silph-made shackles.[break][break]

He was a rat no longer. If he'd ever truly been one in the first place. [break][break]

Killian shifted, slipping a hand into the front pocket of his raincoat while the other readjusted his hood. "You underestimate my mind." and by extension him. A mistake he imagined Fernando made often. Not just with him but others. For the man who sat atop the world, the little folk must be nothing more than game pieces, after all. [break][break]

"But now that you mention it, I have had a bit of a migraine lately." he pinched the bridge of his nose. "It's why I wanted to meet. That and I have some information." [break][break]

His thumb tapped at the Rotom Phone in his pocket, waking it. Hijack didn't make a sound, already aware of the plan. Quickly, it composed a text to bryan delarosa and priam conrad . [break][break]

I'm with him now. Be ready to close in on my location in two minutes.

KILLIAN IS a hard man to read. his pride knows no bounds. no matter what predicament he’s faced with, he struggles for some semblance of control. that much is evident between their exchanges in slateport and the STAR SOIREE.

shackled by his own issues, he still rattles against the cage, spiteful and full of scorn. it come with every one-liner he spits out, as if to create an invisible stool to equalize their standings.

“information first,” fernando insists. after all, he’s been the most consistent when it comes to honoring their ‘deal’.

One hand lowered, the other slip from his pocket palming a flash drive. "Rocket's been working on a project to drain Avatars of their power. MAGMA we're calling it. The details are on the flash drive." he offered up the drive with handshake and a frown. Once Fernando took his hand, the trap would spring. [break][break]

Flesh becoming biomass that draw Fernando in and hold him in place. If he struggled, it tighten - crush. Anything to keep him rooted until the others arrived.

this isn’t the first time they’ve exchanged info, much less items. there’s no reason for fernando to suspect otherwise. not out in the open. not in public. and to somehow have the paranoia that killian had somehow integrated with a pokemon not known to earth in such a short amount of time—well, that’d be preposterous.

so when he reaches out for the flash drive, he’s caught off guard by the sudden lurch of mass. it coils around his hand and holds him in place, crawling, grotesque, as if trying to absorb him.

he immediately pulls, expelling a surge of MISTY TERRAIN the moment it strangles his wrist. “TAPU,” he calls out, BERSERKER FOG mixed into his panicked heave.

unfortunately, there’s no time. the split second after killian tethers them together, a flash of light casts them from the shadows. seemingly normal traffic goes awry as one vehicle cuts away from the lane and toward the pedestrian walk way. it’s the last thing he sees before—

heart was racing when he steps on the gas, bringing the vehicle to its full speed towards the target location. Killian Decker has the subject they were going to extract in a position where he cannot move.

he hasn't practiced driving lately, but he tells himself that did drive a speedboat not too long ago, giving him the push to not panic. if they crash, it's because it was deliberate and not because he's bad.

and crash it did.

honk! honk!

priam instinctively hits the horn when they close the target. there would be no brakes as they go speed at FERNANDO SILPH. the urge to shout was suppressed, but the honks should be enough to tell bryan delarosa, who was sitting shotgun, that he's too excited for this.

If it wasn't for the fact that Bryan had a very strong regeneration ability, he would have never agreed to get into the car with Priam. [break][break]

That same boat incident his partner in crime was previously thinking of was only saved after Bryan had made the boat come to a slow stop. But Bryan himself couldn't drive cause he had his own part in this as well, in his hand he held a ball of stolen light. Kill kept him in place, Priam slams into him, and Bryan shows why he was chosen as a beast in Rocket. He put on his mask and as soon as Priam hit his mark he got out of the car immediately, already in his disguise.[break][break]

"Nice one handsome." he compliments as he unstraps the seatbelt and rushes out of the car. One hand glowing with light and poised right at Fernando's eyes and the other hand with two pokeballs that he throws out. "Eat this you pompous bastard!" he shouts at him to get Fernando to look. The flash of light goes off poised to temporarily blind Fernando as he throws out two of his hard hitters, Kommo-o and Zarude as they use vine whip to try and bind Fernando. [break][break]

He did have a suspicion that this wouldn't go as easily as initially planned, he was a long time standing gym leader for a reason, if rocket had their way he'd be another name on a gravestone.

Instinct kicks in when the mist perfumes the air, Killian almost breathes deep the noxious vapor. They've been doing this dance too long. It's only due to the influence of the thing inside him that his lungs lock. [break][break]

The crash happens a split second later.[break][break]

If they were in some piss-poor Isekai, this would be the moment Killian got whisked to some other world (and given the recent happenings in Hoenn, that's still a possibility), but that doesn't transpire. Instead, Fernando's ripped from his grasp as Killian goes flying into the nearest building. [break][break]

A fatal collision if Deoxys hadn't been quick on the draw. Before impact, biomass spread along Killian's right side and hardened into armor. An impenetrable defense to shield its host from harm. [break][break]

There's still pain, an ache to his muscle, and a throbbing in his head. Killian sat beneath the rubble of a destroyed coffee shop, groaning and dazed.

IT ALL HAPPENS SO FAST. there’s no time to react. much less register what’s going on. the blaring horn of the approaching vehicle drowns out any coherent thought. only instinct drives his action.

so he pulls, desperate.

his wrists remain cuffed in killian’s flesh, up until the point of impact. and even then, they’re bound. for a second, it feels like his hands will tear off, the weight and momentum of his body tugging away from the vice grip of deoxy’s bondage.

somewhere, it lets go but he’s already midflight.

his body hits a storefront’s window. it cracks immediately, giving way, and letting him continue as he plows through several shelves. items are knocked off, glass spills onto the floor. his journey ends when his body hits a brick wall, right on the crux of his spine, dropping onto the floor and sprawled out.

the pain is bearable. it’s all at once, a sudden soreness encompasses his whole torso. the shards of glass that have cut past his sleeves and into his skin go unnoticed. he can’t even feel the warm, wet feeling of blood spilling from his wounds. the intensity kills nerves and all he feels is the blunt trauma, unaware of just how hurt he is.

he coughs—cuts into a loud scream as he jerks his hand toward his hips. he fumbles his way onto his pokeball, fingers passing the sharp edges of shrapnel poking out from his chest.

when he moves, he can feel the pain his adrenaline numbers. he can feel muscles tear and it feels like he’s severing it himself.

the store’s dark. the light are off. it’s been closed for the last half hour. dust is kicked up from the impact, illuminated by bryan’s stolen powers. the rocket spotlight combs for him, a role reversal as the criminals scour for his hidden body.

the green shimmer of a PROTECT reveals his location. his glalie, the one he always carries on him, projects the barrier upon being summoned. times like these, slateport era skirmishes, reveal the pokemon’s intrinsic value.

a MISTY TERRAIN mixes with the dust. it bleeds from every open pore on his body, gushing with the open wounds that leaves his fingers slick and smeared.

VINES lash against the shield and it cracks.

fernando’s panting now, scrambling to get onto his knees, his feet—anything.

but they don’t see that. they see a man with his eyes closed, head facing the floor, stumbling, disappearing behind a curtain of flames.

a MAGMA STORM erupts from the inside of the store, looking to bath those that dare look on.

from the backseat of the car, a kirlia pops out. it waves its arms and a field expands from its location. moves known by the kirlia is now imprisoned, being banned for other pokemon to use as long as it's active.

silph can't take the easy way out of this situation anymore.

"imprison is set! ready for tele-!"

an explosion interrupts his words. flames pour out of the building as misty terrain settles in. priam stays in the car, though he peeks his head, covered in a ponyta (galarian) mask, out of the window. just beyond the ravaged bumper lay a good example of destruction of property.

he squints at the coffee shop, trying to find the source of the attack. the flames were different that what a normal fire-type attack would look like. priam swallows. though nervous, he's not willing to let it show. overcompensation is his answer.

"he's still trying to fight, huh?" priam mutters before his tone picks up. "we beatin' him down to submission?!"

"Shit!" he yells out as the magma storm threatened to consume him, he didn't want to find out how he'd regenerate after that shit so he steered clear of it. The Glallie would be his opponent, why is it everyone he hated had one of these fucking things? [break][break]

Luckily that experience helped him learn how to deal with it. Thanks Eva Morales . He recalled his Zarude, he couldn't afford for the grass type to succumb to fire attacks much less one's made of magma. He recalled it to the safety of it's pokeball along with kommo-o and instead sent out an alcremie and an alolan nintails. "Alright alcremie, decorate Killian and his buddy! Ninetails you're on glalie duty!" he calls out as the pair worked in tandem. [break][break]

Alcremie fired a blast of whip cream that upon touching Killian's twisted body with further strength, Alolan ninetail's activated her snow warning ability, hopefully cooling off the magma a little bit and fired a blizzard attack to try and hit both of fernando's Pokémon. "No reservations on destroying your own city huh? Glad to know." he said as he ran over to the side of a building and grabbed the fire escape ladder on the building closeby. [break][break]

Wroughted iron creaked and groaned and gave way to the rocket beast's will as his muscles bulged. He eventually succeeded in ripping off a section of the fire escape and grinned manically as he decided to throw it at Fernando's body knowing Gallade would need to intercept it.

Brain rattling in his skull, the world around him is a deafened wasteland. Seconds stretch on for what feels like minutes underneath the rubble. Is he alive? The bolt of pain through his arms as he attempted to move suggests so. There's also the fact he's breathing, albeit painfully. [break][break]

Why? That car hit him dead on. He should be dead or at least more injured than he feels.[break][break]

A moment of nothing before Deoxys answered. Hotter than the pain pulsing in his limbs, the alien's anger burned in Killian's mind. He winced at the feeling so intense. It had shielded him - no, them from harm.[break][break]

"Grrr." Killian efforted, pushing chunks of stone and metal off him. They slammed to the ground as he stood. "Fuck." he looked for the others, but the world's filtered in a haze. The closest thing to him is little more than a blurry speck. [break][break]

"...decorate Killian and his buddy!"[break][break]

Oh good, his hearing is coming back. That sounded like Bryan. Fucker, hit him with a car. Killian didn't remember that being part of the plan. At bryan delarosa's order, the thing in his vision got close, splattering something over his body. A few seconds later, the haze lifted from Killian's vision.[break][break]

"Fernando, where is he?" quick turn of his head toward a searing heat answered Killian's question. Damn, that crash hadn't taken Fern out either. A persistent bastard, isn't he? [break][break]

Giving chase crossed Killian's mind, but he held off. The corners of his vision remained blurred. Charging in would make him a liability until his brain settled. But he had other options.[break][break]

The light from two Poke Balls flashed. [break][break]

"Slowbro, deal with the magma. Beheeyem, help restrict Fernando's movements." [break][break]

Galarian Slowbro fired a Water Pulse at the magma's blaze to help Ninetails snuff the flames. Meanwhile, E.T. intensified the Gravity within the wreckage of the building.
