The air is crisp, bringing with it the smell of fresh growth and.. uneasiness.[break][break]

Stormy had been called to assist in a perimeter check periodically for the Mossdeep Space Center. For whatever reason, important information had leaked involving a super secret experiment going on inside of the lab. The scientists had requested the building be under careful protection until the experiment was completed.[break][break]

She hadn't taken the request lightly, considering the danger that Team Rocket posed. [break][break]

Instead, she had called ALEXANDER STONE to assist her. She didn't really have a reasonable reason for it, considering their interesting relationship. She merely trusted him and felt that two eyes on the field were better than one. [break][break]

Hopefully the experiment wouldn't last long.[break][break]

mossdeep is without a leader and perhaps it is the absence of one that has forced the mossdeep space center's hand to request additional assistance. the public may know of their research, but they only know what the space center wants them to know. there is more to it, naturally, and only particular people know of what truly happens in the space center.

alexander stone is one of them.

so, when the call came in to assist, he did not hesitate, especially not when the caller was stormy. her appointment as lavaridge's gym leader was nothing short of expected, but there is much more for her to learn. luckily for her, she is not alone.

"they'll be done soon, i believe."

Her eyes narrow suspiciously, but they hold a teasing glint. She's not really prying, but she's curious to see if he will admit to any sort of knowledge of what might be going on inside.[break][break]

Stormy herself had been witness to one of the Space Center's experiments but had been instructed to remain silent about what she had seen. Of course, she assumed the same for Alex and wasn't moved to pry.[break][break]

stormy's inquiry has a tone of suspicion to it that's laced with playfulness. alexander chuckles, shaking his head. "that's a secret i can't tell you, stormy." his words mirror the same tone as hers and his smile only compliments it.

alexander walks with his hands behind his back, carefully eyeing their surroundings every now and then because even though he knows what's going on inside, outside is a different story entirely. unpredictability is his enemy.

"devon supplied equipment for the space center, so i have some connections."

and that's as much as he's willing to reveal to her. to her next question, he curiously looks at her.

"do you want trouble, stormy?" he asks, but continues by shaking his head. "no, i do not believe so. but we have to remain vigilant as always."

She shrugs, although a small part of her is saddened to hear that he won't confide in her. She doesn't let that show, though. She's always been left in the dark when it comes to official business and the like.[break][break]

While his eyes scan the surrounding area, Stormy glances up to see her Altaria circling back. The lofty Pokemon seems bored and doesn't appear to have anything to report. Stormy gestures for it to continue patrolling, and it does so with a powerful flap of its wings.[break][break]

"You seem to know everyone and anyone, a hand in everyone's pocket."[break][break]

Stormy winks at him before glancing behind her. So far the surrounding area has been quiet, nothing out of the ordinary.[break][break]

Though she isn't in the least bit bored or anxious. So when Alex asks her if she's looking for trouble, Stormy's eyes cloud with concern.[break][break]

"No, of course not. I've been in enough trouble lately, I'll be relieved if this assignment runs smoothly."[break][break]

The woman inhales deeply, thinking briefly about her recent rescue mission. She's done everything she can lately to stay out of the public eye and to stop attracting attention to herself. She had enough on her plate as it was.[break][break]

a hand in everyone's pocket; that is a line that's often used to describe another familiar silph, and the similarity between them exists but neither party are willing to admit it. it should be scary, frightening in a way but it only excites alexander.

"it will run smoothly."

perhaps he should not have spoken so early, because unknown to the two of them, there are movements in the shadows that approaches them. not too far away, but not too near either. they have another minute or so.

"how have you been holding up?"

the details of the mission are becoming clearer with every passing day, but it had been clear for him since the start.

Stormy smiles at his matter-of-fact response. It comforts her, having him near. He's always been strong and secure, he's never shown and doubt or indecision.[break][break]

Altaria is unaware of whatever moves in the shadows next to the humans. She is looking farther away and along the path. It's likely she will miss the danger entirely and arrive a little late.[break][break]

The question Alex poses is a troubling one, simply because she's been asked it so many times. But it suddenly occurrs to her that she has something on her mind she'd been itching to confront Alex about.[break][break]

"Fernando came by the other day to interrogate me on the mission."[break][break]

She stops, feeling uneasy and perhaps a little upset.[break][break]

"He asked about our relationship, and he told me that you begged him to give me the Lavaridge position. That you tried to pay him off with money. I didn't want to believe it was true, so I want to ask you. But Alex, you said something to me during our dinner that night, something about 'seeing what you can do.' You weren't involved with this, were you?"[break][break]

Stormy is holding Alex's face in her eyes, searching for an expression, hoping that Fernando's insults and mockery had just been a tool to toy with her short temper.[break][break]

that, is something he does not know: the fact that fernando had paid her a visit isn't the surprise, no, the surprise is that he had questioned her about them and in particular, their dynamic. perhaps alexander had gotten under his skin after all.

"beg is a strong word. i simply recommended you for the lavaridge position based off the qualities you possess and have shown."

alexander, much like fernando, knows how to lie; he does it well even in the face of someone he cares about. he hides it under a veil of concern and a slight smile to aid.

"besides, even if his exaggeration was true, the decision to appoint you was out of his control. perhaps this is his way of spinning it to make it seem like he's still in control."

She wants to believe him, but there's a twisting in her gut. She's never trusted Fernando, but what reason would he have to spew such lies?[break][break]

"Well. I would appreciate it if you'd let me handle my own conflicts. I appreciate your concern, Alex, I do, but Fernando is using this to humiliate me."[break][break]

There's a sharpness to her words, an underlying warning. Whether or not he did as Fernando said he had is no longer relevant - what's done is done. She is simply embarrassed now by the way it had been handled and the way Fernando had addressed her. [break][break]

"I don't want you involved or slandered because of me. Fernando seems to think I control your actions - I'd prefer it if he had no reason to think like that."[break][break]

Stormy frowns, clearly upset about this whole situation. Not even Alexander's smile can boost her spirits. His comment on it being out of Fernando's control is interesting, but she isn't sure what exactly to say to that.[break][break]

"Perhaps you're right."[break][break]

she's upset, perhaps rightfully so; it's subtle but he notices the slight change in her demeanor and the tone in which her words are spoken. he understands her concerns and recognizes the validity in them, but he does not agree with them.

"why does fernando's opinion matter so much? it shouldn't, stormy, not after how he treated you and your family."

alexander takes a deep breath, slowing his thoughts.

"let him think what he wants to think. his pride makes it so he cannot compromise, not even when he's in the wrong. like i said, fernando had no say in the matter, so this is likely him trying to regain some form of control. to mend his pride, perhaps."

too distracted by the discussion at hand, alexander does not notice the ruffling of the bushes or the breaking of the branches in the near distance. he should have; if he had, he would have been able to properly defend himself.

out of the darkness comes four masked figures, all with pokeballs in their hands.

"hands where we can see 'em. nice and slow now."

For a brief moment, there's a flash of anger from her at his words. He doesn't seem to understand the gravity of the situation, at least not from her point of view.[break][break]

"You keep insisting that it doesn't matter, Alex, but he is a very powerful man. The council listens to him, and his opinion of me is almost guaranteed the opinion of the council by default."[break][break]

Stormy also takes a deep breath. Her anger isn't really towards Alex, even though perhaps it should be.[break][break]

She blinks, though, when he informs her that Fernando had no part in her new position. She's surprised, only because she had thought that impossible. The way he had informed her of her new position under his jurisdiction, she had assumed that Fernando had been behind it all.[break][break]

"That's.. not the way he made it sound. He basically threatened me, told me that I'm under his jurisdiction and he will be visiting Lavaridge soon to 'whip me into shape.' His words, not mine."[break][break]

It appears their conversation has taken over the task at hand, and it's evident when someone unfamiliar speaks, a threat hanging in the air. Stormy's blood runs cold as she glances slowly over her shoulder to see that four masked figures have arrived.[break][break]

Fear makes her blood run hot, but she holds her ground to wait for Alex's orders. He is, after all, the superior in this situation, in a way.[break][break]

Altaria, likely out of sight, has already spotted the intruders. The cloud-feathered bird remains within calling distance, unsure whether or not to engage yet.[break][break]

"the council acts unanimously, and while they listen him, it does not dictate that they follow him."

her next words: whip me into shape: almost garners a chuckle of disbelief from him. the audacity of the councilman is shocking to most but to alexander it is all but expected. he has no more to say on the matter because he knows that fernando's influence only gets him so far.

thankfully, their conversation is abruptly derailed with an interruption. the threat does not need to be said; it hangs in the air as alexander quickly analyzes the situation before coming to a conclusion. this would have been an entirely different situation if they had their pokemons out, or even a gun, but their mistake comes from their arrogance, which alexander will take full advantage of.

like a heroic cowboy in fictional tales, alexander moves his hand to his belt within a second and with two pushes with the palm of his hand, he calls out two pokemon. the flash of white is instant and blinding, and it allows alexander to grab hold of stormy's arm before tugging her backwards.

tangrowth immediately sweeps forward with a POWER WHIP to target their legs, while aromatisse looks to hold one of them in place with PSYCHIC.

alexander looks up for altaria, soon finding it.

"take her away."

She frowns because so far she hadn't really seen much evidence to the contrary. Well, other than now, she supposed.[break][break]

Alexander does not seem the least bit serious, and Stormy is pretty sure she saw him stifle a laugh. A bubble of irritation seems to grow in her belly, an uncomfortable and humiliating feeling.[break][break]

In an instant, Stormy is pulled behind Alexander, the grip on her arm like iron. She gasps, now fully realising the gravity of their situation. She hadn't been prepared for an actual fight. Once again, she was careless and unprepared.[break][break]

Two blinding flashes of light act as temporary distractions, and Alexander's Tangrowth and Aromatisse appear, both utilizing their quick-thinking and abilities to try and protect their trainer. [break][break]

Stormy's breath is forcibly expelled from her chest as talons grab her by the arms and toss her into the air. She lands on the back of her Pokemon the moment Alexander calls for it. Altaria doesn't need to be told twice.[break][break]

The humiliation Stormy felt earlier was magnified at this moment. Altaria's powerful wing beats were drawing her away, and she gasped for air.[break][break]

"Turn around, we aren't leaving him down there alone."[break][break]

The bird croons in surprise, clearly not willing to disobey orders.[break][break]

"I am your trainer, not him. I won't leave him."[break][break]

Stormy's voice is firm, and her eyes are blazing with anger. Her hand reaches for her own pokeballs, and as Altaria reluctantly makes a u-turn back to the fight, Stormy throws down Blissey and Stantler. The two Pokemon stand brazenly alongside Alexander's.[break][break]

Altaria is lowering herself to the ground, allowing Stormy to speak and not have her voice be carried away by distance.[break][break]

"Sing and hypnosis!"[break][break]

They both proceed, powerful waves of hypnotic energy pulsing from the Stantler's antlers while Blissey sang sorrowfully, encouraging at least one or two of the men to feel drowsy.[break][break]

Regardless of Stormy's orders, however, Altaria refuses to allow her to leave her back. COTTON GUARD seems to lock her in place while also boosting the bird's defences, just in case they become targets.[break][break]

four men each with a pokeball in their hand; they undoubtedly have more, which means alexander will need to disarm them before they outnumber him. despite the POWER WHIP that sweeps them off their feet, they manage to send out four pokemon: graveler, scizor, wigglytuff, and arbok.

alexander clenches his jaw, preparing himself for a tough battle and reaches for more pokeballs only to be stopped by the sight of blissey and stantler dropping in from the sky. he clicked his tongue, disapproving of stormy's stubbornness but there's nothing he can do about it right now.

"do not let them send more pokemon out."

aromatisse is in charge of that. PSYCHIC takes its effects and holds two of the men in their place, but as they struggle under the psychic-hold it becomes clear that aromatisse will not be able to hold them for long. that is where tangrowth comes in to help. with the pair of men held on the ground, it allows tangrowth to summon forth a cloud of SLEEP POWDER to lull them into a deep slumber.

two down.

the two that stormy targets dodge the attacks with ease and soon move behind cover, hiding behind trees as they scramble for more pokeballs.

their pokemon retaliate first. graveler slams its rock-fists into the ground, sending a ROCK SLIDE over in the direction of all of them. scizor and arbok move in sync with the attack, closing in before delivering a BRICK BREAK to stantler and POISON JAB to tangrowth. wigglytuff returns a SING that targets the altaria above.

"leave, altaria!"

meanwhile, the two behind cover have successfully pulled out more pokeballs.

Two of the men fall asleep while suspended in the air thanks to Aromatisse's psychic hold. Unfortunately, four of their Pokemon are on the field and posing a great threat - and the two that Blissey and Stantler had been in charge of had escaped.[break][break]

Stormy feels panic rise in her chest, but now is not the time to let her fear get the better of her. Altaria continues to hold her position in the air, unwilling to let Stormy go.[break][break]

Blissey reaches into her pouch to retrieve an EGG BOMB. It seems to pulse with power and she very quickly lobs it in the direction of the two men hiding behind whatever sort of cover they had found. It explodes on contact, causing the two men to scream in panic. It seems to have deterred them from throwing their retrieved pokeballs for a heartbeat.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Stantler has been taken by surprise with a BRICK BREAK. She cries out in pain, throwing her head back and twisting her body around to kick out her heels in a powerful JUMP KICK. Her hooves smash into the Scizor, throwing the Pokemon back a few feet. [break][break]

It appears though that the Stantler is in a lot of pain, and it limps off to the side, breathing hard.[break][break]

The Wigglytuff has targeted Altaria, a lovely lullaby coming from its amazing vocals. The bird seems to grow drowsy, it's wings becoming heavier and heavier. [break][break]

It's Alexander's shout that startles the bird awake. Stormy holds fast though, her sheer stubbornness preventing her from abandoning him.[break][break]

Altaria summons a MOON BLAST, her whole body glowing with power as she absorbed the power of the moon. With a powerful push of her wings, the dragon-type sends the orb of power directly into the Wigglytuff.[break][break]

Stormy reaches for another pokeball herself but is knocked off balance by Altaria heeding Alexander's orders. The dragon has decided who is correct in the situation, and to her, protecting Stormy at all cost is her primary objective.[break][break]

With an eerie cry, Altaria forces itself higher into the air, taking Stormy along with it.[break][break]

"Alexander!"[break][break]
