it's a cleaner, more organized version of saffron, of his old home. it makes him sick. a metropolis should be polarized, hiding the grit of the impoverished underbelly while entertaining the lavish wants of those who sit atop the socioeconomic ladder. it's no wonder she takes up residency here. perhaps to stay close to ALEXANDER STONE ? he's sure but that's a trifling matter beneath him.

fernando arrives promptly, on the dot. an investigation on the mission to free dahlia goode has been ongoing and he's taken a personal interest in it. he's here today to hear bronwen's reaccount of the events that unfolded. a manilla folder sits tucked under his arm, containing several documents.

after knocking, he stands outside waiting.

Rustboro is merely a temporary stop. She doesn't particularly love or hate the clean, organized city. It's become a temporary home, courtesy of ALEXANDER STONE.[break][break]

What's made it feel less secure is the faint knock at her front door. She knew Fernando was coming, she had been asked to sit for an investigation. While the Dahlia rescue operation had been a success, it had not come without tragedy.[break][break]

Stormy, along with the rest of the team that had been sent on the mission, were all under an in depth investigation involving video footage of two Rocket grunts being murdered. [break][break]

So when the door knocks, announcing that Fernando is here to interrogate her for the next couple of hours, she startles. For a moment she leans on the counter in the kitchen, focusing on her breathing.[break][break]

She has nothing to hide, but it doesn't mean that Fernando will believe her. [break][break]

Eventually, she pushes herself away from her perch, walking stiffly toward the door. She's still favouring her leg that has since had weeks to heal. Stormy twists the knob, opening the door for the man behind it.[break][break]

the reports detail their injuries as well as the ones they've inflicted. several pokemon are killed in action but it is stormy who bears the brunt of the pain from the league side. an eye wanders, curious as to her current condition. the fact that she isn't bound to a wheelchair or using any crutches seems promising but his care is fickle.

"i'll be fine. are you ready?"

it's a personal principle to never take from something he hasn't prepared. a few bad experiences with heavy consequences has taught him well past it. he doesn't suspect bronwen of such intent but it's a thought. even then, like with persephone amavi , tea is more his style.

It automatically irritates her that she's made a mistake. She herself doesn't drink coffee, and now the whole house will reek of the freshly bought and brewed beans. What a waste.[break][break]

"There is tea in the cupboard by the sink if you'd prefer. I don't drink it often so I don't have an assortment."[break][break]

She turns to leave, directing him to follow her into the kitchen. Her movements indicate she still feels pain in her leg, and she's thankful to sit down in a chair in the kitchen.[break][break]

Stormy leans back, wincing a bit as a twinge in her leg causes it to jump. [break][break]

his nose wrinkles at the smell. it reminds him of a cafe.

"i'll be fine," he reiterates, this time more forceful then before. there's no need for pleasantries and no amount of courtesies will appease him. his objective is solely on his job and the results of his investigation. any fun he has from interrogating her is a neat bonus, a small payment for his time.

fernando keeps his pace slow, unhurried. there's no rush for a cripple. in fact, it allows him to glance around, study her environment. he keeps his judgement to himself.

"do you understand the consequences of your action?"

Stormy snorts at Fernando's response. Why does she bother to play nice when he refuses to give her any sort of wiggle-room for kindness?[break][break]

Her fingers intertwine as she sets them on the table in front of her. She leans in a little bit, mild irritation growing as Fernando began his interrogation.[break][break]

The apartment was plain - plain walls, plain furniture, plain decoration. It barely looks lived in, like this is a temporary home. It would remind Fernando nothing of her bedroom in the Silph estate.[break][break]

"I'd appreciate some 'innocent until proven guilty' manner of questioning, Fernando."[break][break]

Once again, she sighs, but this time she seems tired. It's likely that she's been asked these questions over and over again. How many times does she have to explain what happened?[break][break]

"there's no bureaucracy in times like these. the general public is scared and will demand answers. it's only a matter of time."

he takes a step back from her, arms crossed.

"how do you feel about the situation? do you regret throwing yourself into this mess? you come out injured and now the world wants to paint you as a villian."

The fact that Fernando has chosen to stand over top of her instead of sit across from her, as equals, gives her enough of a suggestion on what his position is.[break][break]

Her eyes are narrowed, challenging him. There's at least some semblance of intimidation that he's imposing on her. There's at least a small part of him that doesn't trust her, she can feel it.[break][break]

Stormy glances at his crossed arms, and she crosses her own.[break][break]

"I don't regret putting my life on the line to rescue Commissioner Goode. I do regret the circumstances leading up to her rescue, however. It wasn't my intention to harm anyone."[break][break]

She breathes a sigh, trying to focus her thoughts. [break][break]

"I stand by what I said though. The two men who were killed attacked us first. We went on a mission deep in enemy territory and two men charged us with their Pokemon. I was injured, and my Pokemon protected me and the team. You know that war isn't black and white."

"before they demand some semblance of convoluted justice."

fernando picks up the picture of the footage and tosses it aside, strewn across the table. what's underneath is a text report over the mission and the current coverage of the event. the entirety of it is in a neat, organized format that's too tiny to decipher without having it right in front of you. his fingers spread the documents and some more pronounced, marked ones appear. one even has a sigil, crested in a gold header.

"tch. you're wrong even when you're right. there is nothing to regret. the mission is a success with minimal casualties, better them then us."

he switches to the next topic.

"what's your relation with ALEXANDER STONE ?"

Stormy's gaze sweeps across the photos and files. She can't read the text, but she has some idea of what's written there.[break][break]

The gold header catches her eye, but she doesn't move to read it. If Fernando had wanted her to read any of them, he would have pushed them towards her, specifically.[break][break]

"The people want to know that we aren't just as bad as the enemy. They're concerned we took away innocent lives."[break][break]

Fernando's disappointment in her answer is to be expected - she's never been able to please him. She holds fast to her response though. She does regret those people being killed. They could have been good people.[break][break]

"That may be so, but one of the interpol agents purposely used excessive force. She had no intention of letting those men live, I think."[break][break]

She waves her hand dismissively - it's unlikely that Fernando cares much about that, given his response. In a way he is right, better them then the team. His next question throws her off, however, and she blinks in surprise.[break][break]

"Alex? We've become quite close, he's very important to me."[break][break]

Stormy watches Fernando carefully, trying to gauge why he's so interested.[break][break]

"I'm not sure what my relationship with him has to do with the operation, Fernando."

the conversation starts to drone on and on. hearing her answer to his assessment reminds him of kim cole-essam . the way she concerns herself with others, talking as if she understand them as a collective bothers him at a deep, personal level. that feeling never leaves the pit of his stomach and swallows it down. he remains unfazed, unchanging.

however, her answer about alex derails the seriousness of their question. it sets him off and fernando can't help but laugh, smiling, beaming. there's something dreadful about how he finds amusement - mocking, as always - from a simple, honest answer.

"that explains a lot. unrelated matters, per say, but a small reason why i came over personally."

Fernando's laughter strikes her to her core. That wasn't the response she was expecting.[break][break]

There's a fire in her cheeks, his mocking tone still reverberating in her head. She has never been less fond of her brother than in this moment.[break][break]

"calm down bronwen."

she puts a damper on his fun and the laughter settles. his humor comes at her expense and the rise he gets out of her is expected if not predictable. still, it's food for thought.

"stone paid me a visit prior to the mission. asked about your bid for gym leader. i told him the same thing i told you."

he raises a hand to cup his chin, as if recollecting.

"he agreed but begged for me to overturn the decisions. i told him that you froze during battle, that you couldn't even finish a casual one on one."

his squint, still smiling, glazes over stormy's facial expression.

"but that explains a lot now. thought it was weird how much he groveled and pleaded, as if i would accept money or aid from devon - very unexpected and unfitting of his image. you two must be very close."

he pauses.

"still, stone comes off as a logical, if not conniving, person. i guess you really do drive him crazy. how cute."

his time to revel can only last for so long. he expected the revelation to twinge at stormy and for her to burst out at any moment. best to strike the iron while its hot-- his true purpose for coming here today.

"regardless, congratulations. i have no intention of letting stone bribe me or crying his way into getting what he wants but providence seems to favor you, bronwen."

She can feel her teeth grind together unpleasantly. [break][break]

"I am calm. I'm calmly asking you to leave."[break][break]

But he doesn't. It seems he's just getting started. If he could clasp his fingers together and grin devilishly, he probably would have. Like he has some sort of secret he's just dying to tease her with.[break][break]

Stormy doesn't like playing guessing games.[break][break]

It isn't surprising to her in the slightest that he and Alex had met - the man had been looking for Fernando for a long time. It also isn't surprising that Fernando had shit-talked her behind her back.[break][break]

What did surprise her was the suggestion that Alex had begged Fernando to give her the Lavaridge leader position. She feels her brows knit together in confusion and distrust.[break][break]

"Begged you?"[break][break]

Fernando interrupts, keen on spilling his juicy side of the story. Stormy is left in dismay and bubbling embarrassment. How humiliating to have someone grovel at Fernando's feet in order for her to get what she wants.[break][break]

"The League already works with Devon."[break][break]

She says this mostly to herself, as if to try and reason with why Alex would have propositioned this offer.[break][break]

The mocking tone coming out of his mouth causes her skin to crawl. He's amused and at the same time irritated by their relationship, it seems.[break][break]

Stormy has been at a loss for words, unable to defend herself. She's confused, rattled to the core about what he's just said. When she had spoken with Alex regarding the council's decision to give her the position, she had insisted that she had it under control and would try again when the time was right. [break][break]

Stone's assurance that he would 'see what he could do about it' rang in her head now. She shakes her head to refocus on Fernando.[break][break]

"I didn't ask him to do anything if that's what you're implying. It's sad that you must think so low of me."[break][break]

It hasn't fully occurred to her what he means by 'congratulations.' She's still rattled by his previous insults.
