WELCOME TO AFTERNOON TEA




WELCOME TO THE FLEUR TEA ATELIER a sophisticated tea house of many stories. Although the lower floors feature spaces for enjoying specialty teas and fanciful pastries, the upper floors are dedicated to battling. After all, being this close to Hoenn's Pokemon League means you are within a diverse community of formidable trainers.[break][break]

After some time conversing and enjoying the service, the maître d'hôtel arrives in a smart suit. A Mr. Mime wheels in a fanciful room service trolley beside him. On top of the trolley, is a large cloche. "you are all signed up for the tiered tea room challenge, yes? what is your team's name?" [break][break]

He pulls out a notepad and pen, expecting an answer. Afterward, he asks his Mr. Mime to reveal the contents underneath the cloche. Several items for your Pokemon to equip are revealed.

After selections are made (or not made), he directs you all to wooden staircase. "bon courage! you do not want to START ON THE WRONG FOOT!" He offers a hint with a smile.[break]

his team name is booked well ahead of time. the exact same team that had dominated the leaderboards at the POKEATHALON. it’s a filler name meant for mainstream ventures and one that he prides on accepting accomplishments under a slew of different contractors.

doesn’t matter. the only thing that does are the results. and so far they have been nothing short of immaculate. as expected from someone of his standards and prestige.

“ah. the period is only after the first ‘co’. like an actual company,” he corrects when he sees the pen dot twice. “the second one refers to being with others.”

Fernando’s suggested name is mulled over silently. Sure, it could work, but it didn’t sound great. It was very, very… Last year. Her eyes shift from one side to the other as she contemplates whether she should bring it up or not.

he attempts to think, but he realizes that it's not worth it to spend extra effort to come up with a name they'll forget about in like a week or so. kyle ends up with the first random thing with a theme that came to mind.

he turns to the maître d'hôtel. "tea-hoongie," he says, as if deciding for the team. it was named after popular meta abuser of hit pokemon moba game pokemon unite that appeared on a mainstream streamer's stream a day ago. "take it or leave it."

of the choices given, he makes a feel of what the other people would choose. he makes inferences as to not double up on one item, solely for personal preference.

in the end, he goes for the air balloon. his pokemon would look cute holding one.

The confusion on her face was clear as day. "What the fuck is a tea-hoongie?" she said as the meaning was completely lost on her. However, she didn't really care what the team name was as it didn't matter. The only thing that mattered is that she got to showcase her skills again, she needed a win after she was basically forced out of Sootopolis by rocket. [break][break]

"I like it more than Silph co and co at least!" She said shooting Fernando a cheeky wink to try and get a rise out of him. She watched as her teammates began to select items and went for the one she thought people would want the least, on top of that she skipped breakfast today so she grabbed the Rawst berry and was extremely tempted to just eat it herself instead of leaving it for her Pokémon.

Honestly?

He didn’t care about team names.

Fact of the matter was that he was distracted by a lot of things bothering him—one of which were those ‘distortions’. So far he’d been lucky not to have encountered any close to Fortree, but still…

(He’d already made precautions for anyone available at the Sanctuary to keep him updated about where these would manifest next.)

“Well, the team name’s gotta be something we can all live with,” he muttered to himself as he wandered over and grabbed the heavy duty boots because let’s be real—

A substantial portion of his armada were susceptible to potential entry hazards; what with Stealth Rock being the most annoying one.

ON THE FIRST CHALLENGE FLOOR, an archaeologist squats with a magnifying glass raised to his eye. Before him, a Roselia twists and turns in place like a demure child. Several spikes are riddled across the teahouse's floors, evidently from the Roselia itself.[break][break]

His voice, hoarse from age, sputters out from underneath his bushy mustache. "i know the pains of those SPIKES personally. send your pokemon out without turning them into pincushions and you'll triumph over this floor, my fellow tea lovers!" The man rises— but by just a tad. One hand remains on his knee, while the other shakily holds the lens.[break][break]

In the middle of the room's flooring, an inscription is written:[break]
"Once there were four.[break]
And one looked upon time's steady pace.[break]
And one looked upon the expanse of space.[break]
And one looked through its pane,[break]
And one looked for disorder to maintain.[break]
Only two did set out,[break]
the fullness of future they did seek,[break]
the world's far end would they greet."

“OH, REALLY?”

fernando turns his head to look back at the trainers he’s gathered. this close to the pokemon league makes fetching the elite four and champion easy. it is alexei, a visiting gym leader, who gets roped into rounding out their quintet.

“tea-hoongie then,” is his last revision while his colleagues select their choice items.

with the cart picked clean, fernando reviews each of their items before joining them empty handed. it is the rawst berry that seems to be the odd one out. it’s only fitting that melody is the one to pick it—it reminds him of her voluminous hair long before they shaved her bald.



upon visiting the first floor, the obstacle is deftly handed by bringing out his shaymin sky forme. it’s FLYING type allows the pokemon to glide through the air with every kick of its legs. below, he takes a more careful step while the pokemon bounds past him, several feet above the pointed contraptions.

“once there were four,” he gleams, watching every step. “make any sense to either of you?”

the message is clear. even if fernando doesn’t know sinnoh lore, the fact that everyone else in the world is so well versed means he catches it by proxy. exposure.

kat’s answer comes out after only a moment of personal deliberation. ”i’m surprised you don’t get it. but i guess if you know, you know.” a smile captures her lips before she retrieves a pokeball. mismagius escapes from the capsule after katherine clicks on its button, gracing the room with a twirl. she giggles as she LEVITATES in the air.

”we should keep the items until we absolutely have to use them. if i had to guess, the difficulty will increase with each floor.”

very reminiscent of the tower challenge. she wondered if they’ll need to save the items for specific riddles or if they were given to make things easier.

thankfully, at this pace, they’ll find out soon enough.

's inquiry earns a quip from kyle as well. "yup. just memorize it in case it comes up later."

kyle didn't have a clue of whatever it meant, but if he had to guess, it'll be some cryptic thing considering legends on hoenn that would soon act as a foreshadowing on a future event that was yet to happen. it was always the case with these seemingly normal and fun establishments, as with the dog cafe one time.

he takes out his phone and takes a pic, actually not going for the memorization thing he had suggested. afterwards, he lets his phone go, the rotom manipulating it joining in with the other pokemon and levitating through the spikes.

"well, just let me know if you want to trade." he tells . the balloon was still held on his hand like a toddler. "i know you want a balloon too."

Melody was nodding her head as they all read the quote on the floor, she nodded as if she had any clue what any of this actually meant. [break][break]

She eventually gave up on trying to figure it out "Can one of you just fill me in. I'm lost, why is there a riddle on the floor? Does it have anything to do with us continuing?" she asked wondering if they'd share the knowledge they had. She released her Duosion who had Magic guard. Wait, it was already floating, how did it- She wasn't gonna think on it too hard on it especially since it didn't really matter. [break][break]

She looked at Katherine like a lost puppy.

This made him crack a smirk for all of 0.5 seconds as he had the easy answer to this.

For him to reveal his ace so early, though…

Thankfully the room had a ceiling high enough that he’d practically hitched a ride on his blue-plumed Braviary, hiding that evil, evil smirk on his features into one of polite puzzlement as he flew across the area (and therefore getting a bird’s eye view of the inscription on the floor in the process).

Quickly snapping a picture of said inscription on his phone, he then reached the opposite side of the room, disembarking from the back of his avian once they were close enough.

“I’m more familiar with Unovan lore, sorry,” was all he remarked as he gave the Flying-type a chin scratch once they’d landed.

She calls out to the party, waving her hand like a flag. "did you know kyogre and groudon fought each other endlessly during the primal age? rayquaza calmed the two down, thankfully!" She laughs and lifts herself up. "this world has lots and lots of natural energy deep down inside! but the question is, can you hit my relicanth deep during its DIVE?"[break][break]

Around the room's flooring, an inscription is written:[break]

the rotom returns to inhabit his phone as soon as they're done with the last obstacle. when they enter, a similar challenge is presented, and along with it, a continuation of the poem.

"oh. another one."

kyle takes out his phone and takes a picture of the poem like every tourist taking a photo of every single memorable thing on their trip. in a sense, what they were doing right now is similar.

"if this is gonna continue up until the last room, i guess i'm on camera duty." he looks around. "anyone else want to be cc'd later?"

he takes out his lycanroc afterwards. he throws a bunch of rocks with rock slide at the relicanth, knowing that it has no guard against any attacks.

THE LEAGUE'S FINEST



THE LINE BETWEEN jest and ridicule is a intimacy that remains between sender and recipient. a solemn promise that is spoken between familiarity and interpretation.

fernando casts katherine as someone perfectly able and willing. it is his misreads on her in the past that still haunts his perception of her. for that reason, and that alone, he grants her the benefit of doubt. it’s a privilege her colleagues have long wasted.

“how do you know it’s not unovian?”

he believes alexei. at face value, at least. but to make such a statement and realize it’s actuality takes more credentials than the gym leader currently has.



the second floor is met with the same reaction: an instant call upon a pokemon that’s well suited for the challenge. like kyle, fernando brings out a rock type pokemon. his rhydon relies on its SURF rather than an ability, to reach the relicanth deep beneath the water’s surface.

“indeed,” he answers without missing a beat.

whether or not kyle sends it, an email will be waiting for him upon their completion.
