The first thing Callan felt was cold, sharp rocks jutting into his hips, then face, as his eyes opened. His head felt disoriented, the world felt like a drumstick and his balance felt like a cymbal struck too hard. Wobbling himself onto his feet, his eyes adjusted to its environs.

A field of stars in pitch black night. No. Something told him, those weren't stars, they were too large, and too numerous. Unlike the dots of white visible at night, these ones were incandescent, pearlescent, emanating some kind of strange light. There was a strange silence to everything, as Callan stepped on the ground. As he looked down from the sky, a frayed landscape of pure black obsidian stretched out into twisted, malformed mountains and hills.

He shuddered, and pressed against his belt, feeling the presence of six pokeballs. That made him feel a little safer. He had an idea of what he was in, he just never expected to be in a space-time distortion. The last thing he remembered was smoking by the harbor at night before feeling a chill against his back.

In the midst of the black expanse of the sky, a small pink and blue light, two intertwining specks of light, floated to eye-level, before travelling in an arc across the mountain range. He pursed his lips, and decided before doing anything, to look around. "Hello?" He yelled out, "Anyone else here?"

The air is thick, unbreathable practically as Lux has to fight for every breath. That, or, his anxiety has finally gotten the best of him being in a cursed place like this. The world itself felt distorted, splotches of black and red stain the air as electricity crackled loudly, which is enough to send chills down his spine given his last skirmish with lightning.[break][break]
Just keep your guard up.[break][break]
When he hears a voice he’s unsure whether or not to feel relieved or even more frightened. ‘Get ahold of yourself,’ Lux tells himself, before clearing his throat to answer. He approaches with his trusted Gallade next to him.[break][break]
“H-Hey. What a mess, huh?”[break][break]

Callan's eyes darted to the returning voice: soft, boyish, afraid. Not that he sounded much better at the moment, his throat had constrict several octaves higher than normal he imagined. "Yeah I'll say." He replied, forcing a smile, he felt better that he wasn't alone, though perhaps that was a twisted thing to feel given that this might be a death trap.

Sparks of red electricity formed overhead from rifts of black and red, he didn't see those before, but he imagined that this place wasn't exactly the safest location to just stand around in. In retrospect, the pink and blue light streaks seemed friendly. "I have a hunch, I don't know if it's true, but it's better than standing around waiting to get hit by lightning." He began, before pointing it out.

The pink and blue lights were reminiscent of neon lights from an 80s Arcade, cyan and pink intertwining, sending a clear streak of light to follow navigating the mountainous terrain. "I think we should follow that, might be a Pokemon, might be a trap, but we're dead either way if we stay out here in the open."

He has a point. They’re playing straight into a fool’s game if they stay aimlessly out in the open like this. Lux grimaces at the mention of lightning, a force of nature he would rather not tango with ever again if he could help it. The sky’s distorted hues of red and blue engrave an image in Lux’s mind he couldn’t forget even if he tried. He needs to report this phenomenon to headquarters later once they both escape it. [break][break]
“Agreed.” A thick layer of anxiety coats the back of his throat before Lux forcefully swallows it down. He wears a calm composure on the outside, while his very insides stew in discomfort the longer they stay out in the open. [break][break]
“Despite the drastic change in appearance I still know this area pretty well. Please, allow me to lead.”[break][break]
Does he want to? Hell no. But it’s the professional thing to do given he’s the ranger here.[break][break]

"Sure." Callan replied, as he followed Lux along. Unsure as to why this person would be well versed in space-time distortions, but if he wanted to or it gave him confidence, that was fine too.

The obsidian landscape twisted in unnatural directions, as the streak of light seemingly trailed between them in the most obtuse of ways. Regardless, they followed it, and after 10 minutes, they found the source, a single Porygon-Z floated from above.

"Greetings." It spoke, in human tongue, as it floated down towards Lux, passive, awaiting for their response.

Up until recently Lux has lived life in relative peace. He lived on the edge of caution, never throwing himself into unnecessary danger unless the situation were dire. This would undoubtedly be one of those times. Normally he would stay put, or at the very least be less out in the open like this — but he’s not the only one he has to think about in this scenario. Stranger or not, a person is a person, life is life. [break][break]
Space time distortions were rare, something still to be learned and studied by scientists. However, Lux was raised by two passionate environmentalists, meaning he had a good grip on the layout on land even as pure chaos rages on before them.[break][break]
Just when he thinks he’s seen it all, a Porygon-Z appears before them, speaks.[break][break]
Arceus, how does he keep getting in these wacky situations?[break][break]
Lux stares ahead as his whole face blanches. Gallade has a similar expression, stunned to silence. Still, Lux takes the initiative and clears his throat, perplexed to the core.[break][break]
“Um, hello? This wouldn’t happen to be your doing, would it?”[break][break]

Callan stayed back, reaching for a pokeball as Lux spoke with the Porygon-Z.

"If you are referring to the space-time distortion you are currently in, then no, Ranger Delfort." The Pokemon replied. "The pink and purple lights however, are a design on my program to help assist civilians and trainers who have fallen into deep distortions to return to their original dimension. My programming is for this very reason, as to who I have been created by, I cannot say, I was not imbued with this knowledge. Would you like me to assist in returning you back to [Slateport City]?"

The whole phenomenon over these space time distortions was a complete enigma to him. Being able to hear a Porygon speak let alone offer to guide them out felt a little sketchy, but perhaps these people from the future weren’t all that bad. [break][break]
Still he holds a bit of skepticism..
Lux turns toward his new “friend”, studying their expression. “Well, what do you think?”[break][break]

Callan nodded in response, having taken in the situation, he agreed. He had no clue if what the Porygon-Z was saying was true or not, but the entirety of the situation felt very much like a fever dream. He had half expected to wake up in cold sweat on his sofa with a pulsing headache and the urge to puke into the sink. The events hadn't really sunk into him yet, so he just agreed. "Yeah, seems like the best option."

"Excellent, please follow me." Replied the Pokemon, its detached head glowed as its body spun like a fan for a moment, before it stopped and its eyes alighted green. "Location has been found, please follow me." With little to no other option, Callan moved himself alongside Lux as the Porygon-Z floated in mid-air, guiding them through the wretched landscape until a glimmering rift floated between the two of them. "This wormhole will take you back to Slateport City, approximately three seconds after you were absorbed into the location." It spoke, "This unit hopes you will not fall into the wormhole again." A pause, once again.

"And that you survive the coming days on Hoenn." A trickle of fear, ran down Callan's spine as he spoke about it. "What do you mean?" He asked out, but by that time, the Porygon-Z had left. The wormhole in front of him floated, expanding gently, as he pursed his lips and turned to Lux. "Well, I guess that's that."

Callan jumped through, feeling the sense of gravity and the salty sea air hit him in the face, landing on the wooden boardwalk with a thud, he stabilized himself before checking in on his new ranger partner. "Thanks, I think I would have definitely been a lot more scared if I were alone back there."
