Truth be told, Mars is a man who takes great pride in his ability to act with nonchalance in most situations. It’s a natural talent that has been carefully honed over the years. Emergency board meeting? No problem. Unscheduled speech? He won’t even sweat it. Team Rocket mission that didn’t go as planned? He can handle it. Throw him to wander through the frozen wilds? S–... Actually, that one may be a bit of a problem.

You’ve earned it.” He whines, soundly patting the cold metallic body of the Metagross beneath him. There’s a humming robotic noise on the pokémon’s part, and whether it's meant as agreement with its trainer’s comment or to alert him of the approach of Georgette Bluebottle is left unclear.

Never in his life has Mars been more glad to see a Mudsdale, and that’s saying a lot, considering he has always been fond of equine pokémon.

”Yeah… Get it, Gigi… Wooo.” He doesn’t sound very enthusiastic, but for that we can blame the ridiculous cold temperatures around them. After all, he does give the gym leader a smile when she tells him he can come down, and accompanying it with a sigh of relief, it’s slowly and carefully that Mars gets off from his Metagross once the pokémon comes closer to the snowy ground – his knees sure wouldn’t be able to handle another jump in these temperatures, that’s something Mars is painfully aware of.

There’s also a smile when she gives him the crinkly mylar blanket, even if he usually wouldn’t be caught dead wearing such an unfashionable accessory.

And the mention of passing the test that comes accompanied with an offer of hot chocolate? That actually earns her laughter, along with the rare swear word from a man who usually tries to keep his speech diplomatic unless speaking to those he trusts and cares for:
