It’s time for two CEOs to have a taste of what it’s like to live your life a quarter mile at a time.

It all started with a text message, and that message led to a few more, to a few other people. Mars is a man who has always considered himself capable of making anything possible, and if he wants to take part in a street race despite definitely not being involved in “the scene” and not wanting to use one of his own nice cars (because he sure isn’t risking being linked to any supposedly illegal activities), he sure as hell will find a way to do so!

Here’s our setting: night falls upon Slateport’s lower district, but its lights in every colour of the rainbow illuminate a certain portion of one of the main streets. For the most part, it lies empty, no cars to be seen until reaching the one spot where they all gather. And let me tell you, they sure are a sight. – neon colours, customizations to no end, spoilers on the back of each one.

Among those gathering, leaning against a newer model painted in shimmering ruby and chatting with a few people as if he has always belonged right here, is no other than Martín del Mar, although no one would recognize him as such.

After all, as he had told Rita Garnet, they’re going incognito tonight, and he sure is dressed to fit the part.

The request to sneak out incognito had left Rita barking with laughter. "Shit, Mars, I haven't snuck out at night to play hooky since I was sixteen," the CEO had replied on the phone, amused and delighted. Keeping with the theme of 'teenage antics,' a messy bun, some fun experimentation with eye liner and black lipstick, and a quick run to a downtown thrift store were her contributions to secrecy.[break][break]

Except Rita wasn't trying to sneak out to do drugs, get drunk, and make out in the back of some dude's pick-up truck.[break][break]

This was probably an illegal thing, right? Man, rich people crime hit different. It sounded like the fun kind of shenanigans that only well-off people got away with without prison time, and technically, Rita was one of the elite now. Didn't have to twist her arm to get her to volunteer for this one, though.[break][break]

And if that was going fast on sleek and shiny cars, by god, Rita would go fast.[break][break]

Rita's hands lovingly traced the surface of the glistening vehicles that Martín del Mar had paraded in front of her, heart singing with anticipation to hear how they purred on asphalt. Top-of-the-line babies, each and every one. How long had it taken to organize this impulsive shindig, anyway?[break][break]

It wasn't like Mars was connected to some crime syndicate that could throw together a sketchy street race on a dime. Could you imagine?[break][break]

To be fair, in his defence, he just so happens to know someone who is involved in the scene. Sure, Rita Garnet would probably be better off not knowing how Mars knows someone who does illegal drag racing, nor why they would be willing to do him a favour like this, but still, the point is that POG Bank’s CEO often seems to be the sort of man who knows people from all walks of life. That would be a very accurate assessment, honestly.

”Darling, isn’t it obvious?” He looks at her when she approaches, spreading his arms as if to gesture to all the cars that surround them. And, when he does, he smiles in a way that is as if the sunlight this night lacks – glorious and radiant. ”We’re racing!”
