“Well, about as fun as doomsday prophecizing can be,” Kepler said, tone wry. He hummed a thoughtful note, lips pressed together, and after a beat added: “and being right about it.” Though there was always an enjoyment to be had in being correct-- something Kepler had come to know after a lifetime of being the most intelligent person in the room.

But knowing your Q’s and P’s (Quantum Physics, for the regular folk) didn’t always make him the most worldly. Or cultured. Or polite or friendly. Science was a harsh mistress. She didn’t have a gentle touch. It took a special person to provide it. Someone like Eva Morales, liked wherever she went. Kepler was not Eva Morales, and he never would be.

“Sure,” he allows, “a beacon. Or a transformative change that’s added a characteristic to our universe. Making it the Origin Point even though it was never intended to be. Or no longer needs to be.”

He loves theories. They’re safe. Always correct unless proven incorrect, are theories.

There’s an obscene kissing noise and a flurry of heart shapes pop up from behind a gravestone. A moment later and there’s the fleshy slap of someone’s face getting kicked in, and the gravestone shakes as a Jynx slams against it. She struggled to her-- her feet?--, using the headstone as a crutch like a drunk in a hallway, stumbling around it just in time for Mercury to deliver another crushing blow to her back, knocking her so hard onto her face she pushes up the sod. Kepler bounces a Pokeball off the back of her head.

“The goal is to destroy us, of course,” Kepler says. “Or, not us, inherently, but, our universe. Which includes us, unfortunately.”

Sci-Fi is far from one of Mars’ favourite genres, which is rather hilarious, considering that on most days his life could fit into most Sci-Fi novels, comic books, and movies. Here he is, discussing multiverse theory with an astrophysicist at a mountain full of ghosts. Here he is, with dozens upon dozens of terms swarming in his mind in the form of Unown.
