focused on him as she was, it was easy to see the shifts in his body language. he’d caught himself. he knew. and it was fine. she wouldn’t mention the slip, just like she wouldn’t mention the explosion.

”he’s well. healthy. busy, as always.” he’s stressed. we’re in danger. it was a mess. but on the outside? there was nothing amiss.

at least, that’s what she figured. she didn’t know what gabriel knew.

she was a little taken aback by gabriel’s statement, and the irritation it contained. to her, it seemed selfish, for him to worry about his own money when the lives of hoennians were at stake. when they would soon be hungry.

then again, it wasn’t her wealth at risk. most of hers was still in kalos, waiting to be inherited…

but still.

”i’m sorry to hear that, sir.”

at his question, she shook her head.

”no, i’m quite comfortable, if that’s what you mean.” a lie, really. “is there anything i can do for you, mr. black?” before i return to my desk and pretend this didn’t happen?

a shame, that iseult had caught gabriel in a moment of internal turmoil; to him weak, and thoughtless. it frustrated the councilman to no end, that the odds of this situation reaching the ears of others was high. still...

though it was understandable to be worried about his reputation, iseult’s lips were sealed about the incident. at least for now, she could see no reason to let it leak to his colleagues or others, not even to ingolf. she had more tact than to gossip purposelessly.

”no, sir. very well. let me know if there is anything, of course.”

with that, she dismissed herself, shutting the door quietly behind her and moving back towards her desk to continue her work.
