Still, she smiled, a sigh escaping her lips as she leaned back into the snorlax's soft stomach.

The stars above them twinkled; free and boundless, they were unlike either of them. Sometimes Penelope wondered if following this path just strayed her further from the one she originally caved for herself, or if this stress was just a product of her success.

Either way, she felt like shit.

"You know," She turned back to her side, her head elevated by her arm. "We should this more often."

one of them has achieved success while the other is constantly chasing after it. it's depressing, in a way, how both of them share the same thoughts and feelings.[break][break]

Penelope laughed. A loud, genuine laugh, full of snorts and gasps for breath.

It lasted for a bit, and at some point her hands clutched her stomach, as the pain of hunching forward rippled throughout her abdomen.

"Yeah," She huffed. Her cheeks had gotten red from the lack of oxygen and her hair lightly untangled itself from the braid it was pulled into. "Though, any large Pokémon could work."

Just as she said this, they could both feel a loud rumbling beneath them. It started out small -- like a child rustling in his sleep -- but in the matter of seconds it grew into the pokemon forcing them off his stomach through standing back on his feet.

Look on the snorlax's face said it all: fuck you guys.

Penelope, who had clumsily slid off the stomach, looked at James, eyes widened, and shrugged. "Oops?"

it's been a while since he's laughed this much as well. when sounds of laughter finally die down, he hears the loud rumbling beneath them only to be thrown off the snorlax.[break][break]

"AY YO!"[break]

but he laughs as he gets back up to his feet.[break][break]

"i think we overstayed our welcome."[break][break]

he swings an arm around penny before pointing off in a direction. it's probably the wrong direction as well.[break][break]

"come on, nerd. i'll get you home."

It was the wrong direction, actually.

Penelope pulled his arm towards the correct neighboring street, shook her head, and laughed a bit more.

"Says the lab tech," She rolled her eyes, "you're probably the nerdiest guy I know, and that's saying something."

Long, wobbly strides began to carry them down the lit Ever Grade Streets, and it came to no surprise that there were a few accidental fumbles along the way.

the drunk leading the even more drunk, it's a miracle the two make it back to her place at all. he's been here before so he knows the layout of her place. he flicks on the lights on, then sighs.[break][break]

"shower or no shower? actually, probably no shower because i do not have the patience to help."[break][break]

Despite the obscene amount of alcohol churning in her stomach, the crisp air and refreshing conversation had done enough to sober Penelope up. At least to the point of being able to direct them to her place.

When they finally arrive through that glorious red-painted door, she sighed contently, stretching her free arm way over her head.

That is, until she heard the prickly sound of his voice.

"I don't even need your help, thank you very much," She snapped back. "...but no shower is fine. I'm," A yawn escaped her lips. "too tired anyways."

With small, wobbly steps, Penelope allowed herself to be led back into her bedroom, It was...a mess, but he should've been used to it by now. Empty water bottles gathered on top of the nightstand, scattered pieces of clothing on the floor, shoes sprawled out beside her beside-- it was no showroom, that's for sure.

When she was close enough, she broke free from his grasp and threw herself on top of the unmade bed, face-first into the pile of pillows and blankets. "THAMF YOu," She screamed into the sheets, her voice muffled and her face completely covered. After a brief pause, she'd pop her head back up again, curious. "Wait, are...are you sure you're even able to get home?"

yes, james is definitely used to her mess, so he's not surprised to see the horrid state of her room.[break][break]

he laughs when she plops down on her bed, shaking his head in disbelief at how funny his friend is.[break][break]

"me? oh, yeah. i'll just grab a cab or something."[break][break]

truth is, he's just going to stumble his way home because a taxi is too expensive. but this may be something penny would know by now.[break][break]

"OK! i'm off. sleep well, penny boo, and if you need to throw up...well, good luck."

Behind the fluffed-up fort of covers, her lips laid in a perfect frown. There was no damn way this guy was ordering a cab. Rolling off from her island of comfort, she sluggishly dragged herself to the counter and plucked up a wad of 1s and 5s from the decorative vase on her dresser.

"Take this," she said, offering the wad to James, "and order," she yawned, "a cab."

If he refused, and she had a feeling he would, she'd move on to plan 2.

"If not, just take my couch or something."

james stares at the wad of cash, debating it for moments before finally shaking his head. he's never been one to accept money from his friends. he can take care of himself, or at least he should be able to.[break][break]

"fiiiiiine. i'll take the couch."[break][break]

he sighs, then stumbles over to plop down on her couch.[break][break]

"oh! do you have a blanket! it's cold!"

With a grin and a short laugh, Penelope pulled out a blanket from her mini closet and slugged it over to him. Her aim? His face, of course.

"Wake up early enough and I'll make you some breakfast," She called out over her shoulder. A classic tradition after a long night out. Because, nothing cures a hangover quite like eggs and bacon, topped off with a layer of cheese and peppers.
