Sometimes, a nice walk on the beach could help get your mind off the imminent danger the world was in, or the terrible events happening just days ago. It also helped that one might even leave the beach with more than they started - as in catching more Pokemon.

It’s why Hideo was taking a walk on the Route 104 beach, accompanied by a pair of very active mouse Pokemon, the Dedenne and Minun making trails through the sand as they ran. Hideo’d also brought along his Meowstic, the cat keeping a watch from atop Hideo’s shoulder, using his temporary Telepathy (something he’d helpfully Role Play’d from one of Hideo’s Pokemon prior to them coming here) to keep Hideo aware of everything around them.

Though he didn’t need help to notice the sound of a Pokemon being released from a Pokeball. Seemed like he wasn’t the only one here on the beach today, though no shocker there.

But before he could say hello to the other person, it seemed they were about to receive some visitors…

Hideo could hear some action going on a short distance away - from where his Meowstic told him the other person was. Or at least close to there.

His own attention was drawn to the arrival of another Pokemon, one that didn’t belong to him or (presumably) the other trainer. As it approached him, his Meowstic was ready to get ready for a fight - but a trail of sand was kicked up as his two mouse Pokemon charged towards it.

Unfortunately for the Palpitoad, while the two mice played well with each other, they were a lot rougher with wild Pokemon: the Dedenne quite literally Played Rough with it, while the Minun merely showed off its Trump Card - which was just some brute force.

Once he heard his Pokemon dragging the defeated wanderer to him, Hideo got a Pokeball out, tossing it at the Palpitoad.

Though once that was done with, Hideo turned towards the other trainer: unfortunately for her, he did indeed notice her small loss of control, though if only because of her scoldings. Her Pokemon had apparently tried to…eat another Pokemon.

Oh.

“Has your Pokemon been doing that for a while?” he asked aloud. “I know some wilder Pokemon I catch gotta be taught out of their old ‘living in the wild’ instincts, or take more work than others.”

Hideo nodded along as the Palpitoad was drawn in. "I've had some unruly Pokemon like that. Worse one had to have been a Perrserker who would not stop trying to fight. And he was a rough fighter." Hopefully the trainer he traded that one to was able to handle it.

“But it sounds like it really likes to hunt. And on command too.” He could hear it zap the beach-water multiple times, with something Splashing in the water. “So it’s not like it doesn’t listen to you. As long as it isn’t too rough, you just gotta be careful what you say around it.”

As he thought over some ways to maybe lower its aggression, another wild Pokemon came by - this time a Drifloon. His two mice were too distracted playing to notice, but his Meowstic saw it coming pretty quickly.

The moment the Drifloon got too close, the Meowstic leapt off Hideo's shoulder, Sucker Punching it, the poor balloon-like Pokemon hitting the sand. In the same motion, the Meowstic pushed back and landed back on Hideo's shoulder, smugly smiling over the maneuver neither his trainer nor his trainer's other Pokemon saw.

“Nice one, Miles,” Hideo said, taking out a spare Pokeball to draw in the fallen Pokemon.

Hideo could only hope his advice would work. He’d had some tougher-to-train Pokemon among those he’d caught, but they came around after enough hard work and determination. The only one he’d really had to give up on was that one Perrserker, and this other trainer’s Pokemon didn’t seem as violent as that one had been.

It even sounded like her Pokemon listened when she told it not to attack another Pokemon.

Though her Pokemon weren’t the only ones fighting on its own: Hideo could hear some zapping sounds as his two mice found another wild Pokemon, and didn’t take kindly to it tossing some rocks at them. The poor Kabuto had to deal with two electric mice - one a Plus, the other a Minus - shocking it from both ends.

This ko’d the Kabuto.

As Hideo could hear his two mice pulling another Pokemon towards him, the other trainer introduced herself - reminding Hideo he’d forgotten to introduce himself as well. “Oh, right. I’m Hideo. It’s nice to meet you, Elinor!” He added a thumbs-up to that greeting; he was less focused on being polite and more on just being friendly.

No harm in that, right?

"So have you had that Pokemon for a while?" Possibly not, but it could be a neat way to move the conversation somewhere more comfortable: they couldn't talk solely about her Pokemon's aggression.

Hideo Kino CAUGHT THE KABUTO!

Two years. Hmm. That was a long time to have a Pokemon be that unruly. Hideo could only assume the Pokemon itself was just a natural-born hunter: it seemed to love hunting and would do so at a moment's notice, yet still listened to her when she said to stop. "Guess you just gotta keep a close watch on 'em and watch your words," Hideo advised.

The Pokemon that came for Hideo was considerably less dramatic than the Crobat; a Shellos wandered in, ready to pick a fight with the boy and his Pokemon.

Unfortunately for it, a pair of electric mice barreled towards it. It tried to spray the pair with a Water Pulse, but a Parabolic Charge from the Dedenne dispersed it. Before it could get out a Mud Slap, the Minun was on it, Sparking it and leaving it vulnerable.

It didn't last long under the ensuing dual-assault.

As Hideo readied another Pokeball, he could hear the distinct sound of a Pokemon evolution over where he'd heard the other trainer. "Congrats!" he exclaimed, clapping until the Shellos was dragged close enough to him. "What'd Eele there turn into?"
