THERE IS FAMILIARITY in this scene. years ago, same position but roles reversed.

it had been him in illeana’s spot, exasperated by the care and attention of his lover. but those days are over—she’s long gone. which is why he roleplays the same scene in his mind, recreating it with new partners in the pursuit of something missing.

“it’s important to warm up before exerting yourself.”

fernando tries his best not to scratch her with his unattended stubble. it proves impossible when he relishes her touch. she’ll feel it as he goes back to layering soft kisses against the inside of her legs.

“and nothing but the best for my favorite scientist.”

a hand on each knee parts her open so he can slide up to where he belongs. slithering between her legs, he crawls up the bed until he’s face to face.

and when he resumes layering affection, she feels a smile rising. it widens with the moniker he bestows upon her.

"oh? you pick favorites now?"

her knees give way to the pressure beneath his hands, opening a path up. the crawl is slow until he's face to face, eye to eye, lips to lips.

and she pauses, staring as if she can dissect motive through eye contact alone. unfortunately, she can't. perhaps if she could... they wouldn't fight in a hospital room a mere few months later.

her legs rise to capture him, to ensnare and keep him close.

he stares deep into her eyes. the way she has a hold on him goes beyond the vice grip that aligns them like puzzle pieces being checked for a match.

“you earned it,” he declares, wriggling to prove they’re the perfect match. it’s a snug fit for sure but raw excitement makes connecting ease.

his weight shifts to his dominate elbow so he can run his opposite hand through her hair. the perfect spot to look at her with just the right amount of endearment before he leans in.

“do you feel that, illeana?”

he puts their puzzle piece together. slips it right into place, as deep as it takes for their ridges to line up.

is it her body, her physical form? or... is it the soul, bare and vulnerable?

wiggling causes thoughts to cloud, fogging like the windows of a car. it leaves a haze and a soft, breathy gasp. she struggles to form a clear, coherent thought in the process.

and the faint, goading statement comes in a slight stumble as if it can't quite climb over the connection's influence.

"prove it."

how does he prove she's earned it? is this not enough?

she lingers on endearment long enough to be caught off guard when pieces of a puzzle align. nails dig into skin, claws sinking into prey.

"i do."

how could she not?

and after a moment of stillness, of simply taking it all in... she wiggles.

THE WAY SHE SQUIRMS highlights how good this feels. the investment, the patience, it all unravels under the hoarse sounds of growing tensions.

when he has given her all of him, by every meaning of the word, he allows himself to sink further. the longer stares at her as his head slithers next to her. his mouth against her ear, hitched with the sound of exertion and quickening breathing.

“you drive me wild.”

and that’s when he gives her more. not in movement. not in the traditional sense. no, his compliment is shown by surpassing expectations and doing the impossible.

just when she thinks she knows him, he becomes larger than life. not by a lot, for he is still mortal, but the compliment is paid for in spades. it scratches an itch he’s never been able to reach before.
