"Ah, there's your problem."
One of Gavin's first steps upon acquiring a new Pokemon is to assess its moveset for potential strengths and weaknesses. It was a skill he'd picked up in Kanto and tested against the gym circuit in Hoenn.
He chuckles at the comment on Dhelmise. "Nope! Not a Water-type, either, even though it looks like one. Grass and Ghost, if you can believe it. I picked one up because of its Steelworker ability, but I have to admit they've grown on me as a species." All the more reason to treasure the shadowed one he'd recently obtained.
Dhelmise, though seemingly unhappy with the Tentacruel's proximity judging by the way its compass spins erratically, does not loose its grip on its prey. This one, in particular, seems reluctant to release a hold once it's been established — perhaps due to the fact that it seemed to do more damage to targets caught within its chains. Lanturn's desperate cry in combination with the viscous sludge seem to incense the shadow Pokemon as it thrashes the anchor tethering it to its foe.
"Mm, Eerie Impulse is good. If you'd used it earlier, you could've drastically decreased the effectiveness of Dhelmise's Giga Drain."
Unfortunately, by this point, it may be too late.
As Eelektross spits up more gastro acid, this time targeting the Tentacruel, Dhelmise tries to drain the Lanturn's last dregs of life.
"Does your Lanturn know Soak, by any chance?"
