Icicles drip across a field of jagged, white-splotched rocks. The tide has almost entirely receded from the innards of SHOAL CAVE. Though it is sure to return in the night, within a matter of hours. The window of opportunity to explore its mysterious labyrinthian caverns has been set.

Traversing across this terrain, with a small lantern strapped to his belt, Cade Atreides is guided by his DRAGAPULT, LOBO. They've come to investigate a strange set of runic symbols reported to have been found here some time ago.

Though the pack full of empty moon balls he carries across his shoulder speaks to a secondary purpose: catching any useful or powerful Pokémon he might come across.

Shoal cave. A cavernous system of icicles and rock. Not usually a place you’d consider finding a person like Cathrine. But here she was. She was experiencing writer’s block and figured visiting a place of similar locals that were giving her issues in the latest draft of her book, would do her good. And so here she was.

Dressed warmly for the occasion did she enter the place. By her side an elegant Gardevoir walked, holding a lantern as their only means of lighting in the cave. Though it was surely insufficient for the job as the darkness fought valiantly back.“Voir?” The question came rather abruptly from the Gardevoir as they walked ever further into the cave.

“Oh Darling, don’t be like that. If there was anything dangerous in here then surely they’d have put up a sign at the entrance.” Cathrine reassured her Gardevoir as they continued forward upon the slippery path. She figured even if there was a danger to be found Gardevoir could just teleport them out.

Suddenly, a Dragapult's wide head emerges out from behind an outcrop of white-veined rock. It peers down at Cathrine Fisher and her Gardevoir with rabid curiosity brimming from its yellow slits. And, in moments, its one-eyed trainer calmly rounds a corner and appears before them as well.

He comes to a stop, just far enough for the light from their torches to mingle together, before his spectral dragon flies down to hover by his side. "... You're not lost, are you?" The man plainly asks, wondering whether he'd have to postpone his research assignment to escort her out. There wouldn't be enough time to come back afterwards if he did. The tide waited on no one.

She hadn’t expected to meet anyone but Pokémon down here. So it came as no surprise when the Dragapult’s head popped up. “Hi there.” Her lips formed a sweet smile as she gazed upon what she assumed to be a wild Pokémon, only for her to be disappointed as moments later the trainer appeared.

He didn’t even bother to introduce himself. Still, she kept her smile friendly as he asked. She shook her head and said. “I assure you, I am not.” She paused for a moment, thinking she might have heard some rumbling coming from somewhere nearby. “And what about you?”

And before the answer could be given, an Abomasnow’s roar echoed through the walls of the Shoal Cave. In the distance, a bright blue light began to shine, quickly followed by a sudden decrease in temperature Ice formed upon the walls shooting towards them along with the cold. Before Cathrine could even as much as issue a command her Gardevoir went into action.

She began to shine a bright blue sending PSYCHIC energy toward the angry Pokémon. The force slammed into it quicker than its Sheer Cold attack to hit them. Halting the attack in progress and slamming the Abomasnow up against the cavern wall. Gardevoir kept pressing the Abomasnow until its body gave up due to unconsciousness. Before she used her ability to move things with her mind to fetch a Pokéball from her trainer’s belt and sent it flying towards the Abomasnow, hoping to capture it.

Cathrine nodded at the Gardevoir in approval of her efforts, before she turned her attention to the other trainer to see if he was alright.

OOC: Gardevoir used Psychic to defeat the Abomasnow before its SHEER COLD attack could hit. A Capture attempt was then made.

After the ABOMASNOW's roaring appearance, and after a threatening rattle in response from his Dragapult, the one-eyed blonde suppresses a chuckle and answers. "Well I can't say with certainty that I'm not... but I don't feel lost, anyway." He says, his resonant tones laced with a distinct Spanish accent.

He stays to watch the ensuing battle in case the woman needs help. When she proves, quite easily, that she does not, however, Cade stands back. That is... until a SWINUB presses its snout against his heel. Curious, exploratory, and always scavenging for food, the creature had never been one to impress... until it evolved.

Deciding it is worth the time and effort, the blonde reaches into his pack and produces an empty ball before crouching down to press it against the Swinub's snout. As it is absorbed by the ensuing flash of light, he turns to realize the woman's battle with the Abomasnow was over.

"Well done," He remarks, briefly sizing her up head-from-toe. "My name is Cade, by the way. What's yours?" He straightens in posture, palming his recent capture and waiting for it to settle before placing it away.

Cathrine gave a light polite chuckle at Cade’s lighthearted statement. She noticed his accent but decided it was a topic for later.

“Thank you.” Cathrine gave him a small smile, only fitting the compliment given. The Gardevoir gave the man a small acknowledging nod as well. Though did not attempt to take the spotlight, instead quietly gathered the Pokéball which now contained a new occupant.

“It is a pleasure to meet you, Cade.” She made sure to pronounce his name appropriately. “My name is Cathrine.” She stated politely, noticing how he straightened his posture, though she was unsure whether that was because of her or the fact he just caught a Pokémon. “So, if you do not mind me prying. What brings you here, Cade?” She questioned.

Meanwhile, the Gardevoir had been halted in her progress of reacquiring the Pokéball. A Claydol suddenly appeared laying claim to the Pokéball which lay upon the icy floor. Gardevoir tried to telepathically ask the Claydol kindly to forego its claim. Alas, the Claydol would do no such thing. Sending out a wave of CONFUSION towards the Gardevoir. The Gardevoir parried the wave of energy rather swiftly using its PSYCHIC energy.

Caught by surprise the Claydol was incapable of manifesting enough power to deflect the wave, and so found itself pushed up against the very same wall the Abomasnow had fallen to. Before Claydol could do any further attacks, Gardevoir used a menial amount of mental energy to pull an Empty Pokéball from Cathrine, quickly throwing it at the Claydol and initiating the capture process.

Cade wastes no time in divulging his reason for being here. After all, he hadn't been told that any of it was confidential. And it wasn't exactly a secret that Shoal Cave was said to contain hundreds of sites like these.

"I was hired to find a set of runic symbols and draw a map. Though that's easier said than done, considering how often things change in this place..."

Suddenly, a CRABOMINABLE scales a ledge just above them, leaping off of it to try and strike his Dragapult with a POWER-UP PUNCH. The attack, of course, harmlessly passes through the Ghost-type. And the wild pokemon is then punished with an onslaught of blue flame afterwards (DRAGON BREATH).

It twitches, temporarily PARALYZED, on the cave ground in front of them. Cade produces another empty moon ball from his pack afterwards and proceeds to try and capture it with a toss.

"How about you, Cathrine?" He asks, briefly shifting his eyes back onto her beautiful figure.

Cathrine listened with great interest as Cade explained his reasoning for being here. Searching for old Runic symbols, drawing maps. It all sounded so tantalizingly fascinating. Just what she needed to get the creative juices flowing.

Alas before she could ask further the appearance of a Crabominable disturbed their conversation. While Cade seemed to have the situation under control. She turned her attention to her Gardevoir who had just caught the second Pokémon. She fetched the two red-white spheres from the ground. Though as she bent back up, she saw a Hippowdon. It glanced at her and then walked on. Not interested in starting a fight. Neither was the Gardevoir and so she walked back to her trainer and handed her the catch.

Cathrine gave the Gardevoir a small appreciative nod. And returned her attention just in time to hear his question. “Oh, I am afraid my reasons are not quite as interesting as yours. I am currently experiencing a case of writer’s block and figured that I might find some inspiration amidst nature.” She explained politely.

“I must admit your purpose here sounds rather fascinating. Would you mind if I tagged along?” She sent Cade an inviting smile, hoping that it would help in convincing him to let her tag along.

She was a writer, too, then? It seemed they had much more in common than just their sense of style and colour palette. Pleased about that, Cade's attention was nonetheless drawn away for a moment as an AURORA VEIL began to spawn above them.

A FROSMOTH gently fluttered into view before long, dancing in the air (QUIVER DANCE) without a care. Lobo, his Dragapult, flew up to meet it. Shortly thereafter, the two twirled around each other, as the one-eyed blonde retrieved another empty moon ball from his pack.

Finding the chance to catch a Frosmoth pretty rare around these parts, he casts the ball and hopes for its capture. Lobo, in the meantime, flies off to retrieve it.

"I would welcome the company, actually," He offers a slight smile in response to Cathrine's inquiry. "Especially of another author." He steps closer to her in the meantime, offering to lead the way as they move forward. "If you don't mind me asking, what is your current writing project, señorita?"

A slight tilt of her head and small raise of her eyebrow announced Cathrine’s surprise as Cade revealed himself to be an Author. She noticed how he got closer for a brief moment before offering to lead the way. An offer she was all too willing to take him up on, as she politely gestured for him to lead the way.

Not long after they had begun to walk, Cade inquired about the details of her project. “Hmmm, how to best summarize it.” She pondered out loud, before finally settling. “My current project is a story set in the Early-Hisuian period about a young woman left to fend for herself after the unfortunate demise of her family. I know, not exactly inventing the wheel here. But I am hoping that I can put my own spin on it” She glanced at Cade trying to gauge his reaction for a short while before returning the question right back at him. “And what about you? Are you currently working on any projects?” She returned the question.

Meanwhile, as they walked Gardevoir sensed the presence of a predatory gaze from one of the many side-paths in the cave. She gestured for Cathrine, who promptly handed her an empty Pokéball and a nod. The Gardevoir then went into the path where it shortly after would be met with the sharp edges of a Gabite’s claws.

Luckily she was prepared. She danced out of range elegantly before summoning forth a sphere of pink swirling energy which she hurled at the Gabite. The MOONBLAST flew quickly and struck its mark true. The Gabite fainted. Gardevoir sighed, in disappointment. She then proceeded to throw the Pokéball, trying to catch the Dragon Pokémon.
