Melody had been invited to a school alongside Martín del Mar to have a mock battle for the students. She decided to use her new Qwilfish, apparently some scientists dubbed it overqwill. [break][break]

It was meant to be just a fun little spar match, but with how competitive melody was...it wasn't going to remain a for fun match for very long. She arrived with her strange new pokemon as she waved eagerly to mars. "A strange request for us both to have a mock battle for these kids huh?" she said curiously, one of hoenn's elite 4 and a owner of a bank? Well he had earned her badge so she couldn't doubt his skills or else she'd have made the wrong call on giving him the badge. "But I guess I get so see how far you've come since my gym challenge. Don't let me down mars." she said giving a small little wink.

Somewhere in the long list of charities and facilities that Mars has made gracious donations to, there is the Pokémon Trainers’ School in Rustboro. It had been months ago, and truth be told, he had forgotten all about it, but apparently they had asked if he would ever like to come do a demonstration for the students after seeing footage of his gym battle against Alexei Ivanov. Ever so busy as he is, ’ever’ had turned out to be the beginning of May.

Apparently, they had managed to book Melody Miro to be his opponent.

Could this be called fate?

”If I had to take a guess, they probably want to show that people of all walks of life can be good trainers.” A CEO and an idol, for example. Mars smirks at the thought, his gaze falling upon Melody and then her Overqwil just as he reaches for one of the minimised Luxury Balls at his belt. ”Hisui pokémon, is it? Guess this will be exciting.”

His Samurott is released then, standing proud and with its horn shining sharp as if a blade. Its colours are similar to those of any Samurott, but its appearance most definitely is not.

She grinned "Oh KAODEWFP? Is that what they're being called?" she asked curiously as she had no idea. [break][break]

"My samurott changed too!" she comments as she had a general idea of what that pokemon could do now, it had a dark typing according to the pokedex. Melody wanted to limit test this guy so she eagerly jumped the gun to try and get ahead of Mars. "Fortune favors the bold right? Overqwill! Toxic spikes the floor!" she ordered as the pokemon began to spin wildly before toxic caltrops flung from it's body all over the battle field to try and limit samurott's movements. [break][break]

She wondered how he'd respond, she knew a little bit about what samurott was capable about but she didn't have perfect information on it's abilities and moves so she was eager to see what the future held.

They’re, in fact, not being called that, and the truth of the matter is that this writer made a slip, but hey, let’s roll with it…

”I guess they are by some people? Think I read it in some forum. Weird stuff, huh?” Mars shrugs dismissively, because in the end, the names people call these pokémon are not what matters. What matters is finding out what they are, where they came from, and why they changed. And, what matters at this moment, is that one of Overqwil’s TOXIC SPIKES landed right by his expensive, nice, and perfectly polished shoes. Obviously, he takes a step to the side.

”Melita, aren’t you always bold? I’d argue it’s one of your best qualities.”
[break][break]
But, of course, Mars is bold too, and so is the Samurott that stands its ground despite being surrounded by spikes. With a single gesture from his trainer, he attacks right from where he is, a gelid ICE BEAM being shot towards the Overqwil.

The ice beam is uninterrupted and lands right on Overqwill's face. It resists freezing solid but melody didn't want to let that happen so she'd be more ready to counter the attack. "Overqwill! Poison sting!" she ordered as the angry pokemon mine began to puff up before suddenly realizing all the air in it's body as it unleashed a barrage of poison quills aimed right towards samurott in a wide spread formation. [break][break]

"Really? What's yours then? I'm still trying to figure it out" she said giving him a devilish grin.

It’s with a clank that quills bounce off the hard shell that makes for the Samurott’s armour, falling onto the ground just as the TOXIC SPIKES had before them. Not all of them miss their mark or are defended against, however, and Odysseus grunts when a couple pierce the skin of his leg and chest. They have likely POISONED him, and overtime, the toxins are likely to spread and do considerable damage…

While considering his next move, Mars looks at Melody Miro, and his smirk never fades.
[break][break]
”Were I any less confident of a man I would be wounded by your words, Melita. And, were I any crueller, I would say that today you’re acting as toxic as your pokémon of choice.” Teasingly, he winks at her, well aware that their young audience may just be enjoying their “trash talking” more than the battle itself.
[break][break]
Now, another ranged attack would be good to ensure Samurott doesn’t move too much, given the poison in his body and the hazards around him, but they’re here to put on a show, and there’s no way they’ll disappoint.
[break][break]
”Now, here’s one you definitely shouldn’t do when dealing with a pokémon that’s covered in spikes. Especially a poisonous one, since they’re likely to poison upon contact.” He addresses those watching with a smile, only then giving Odysseus a firm command. ”AQUA TAIL.”
[break][break]
Roaring, the Samurott rushes towards the Overqwil. Turning around at the last second, water gather, and Odysseus uses his tail to smack his opponent with all of his strength.

”But unlike usual Qwilfish, Melody’s Overqwil here apparently isn’t a water type. Interesting, no?”

"It still lives in the water too. It's kinda weird." she comments as he asks about it's strange typing. "Also BOOOO THAT WAS A LOW HANGING FRUIT." she says referring to the 'toxic' pun he made. [break][break]

"Thought you were better than that! But now that you're in close, take him down Overqwill!" she orders as the pokemon begins to spin rapidly and slam into the samurott, trying to wittle down it's armor with his own spikes as she wanted to see a test of endurance. With each move melody got more and more wrapped up into the performance and forgetting this was just supposed to be an exhibition match to show off their pokemon's skills. She wanted victory.

”Hmm… Like a Dragalge or a Malamar. Dhelmise too, but that’s a ghost… Interesting how in the water, the non-water type pokémon are some of the ones you have to watch out for the most, no?”

His comment has more than one intent, of course, because rather than just being about those species, it is also about Melody’s own Overqwil. Exhibition match as this happens to be, Mars doesn’t care much for going all out and trying his best to win, and in the end, the Elite Four member taking the victory makes logical sense. What he himself is getting out of this is much different.

”Well, well, it seems like Miss Miró is out for blood today. Thirst for victory suits you, Melita.”
[break][break]
But it also makes him wonder why she cares so much about winning something like this, especially considering the damage her Overqwil is doing to Mars’ own Samurott. The pokémon doesn’t cry out, but he does look as if he’s struggling to withstand the attack, and Mars will only push it just so slightly further…

”Expertly done. I would concede, but there’s one last thing that’s important to show about this Samurott.”
[break][break]
CEASELESS EDGE may not be the best attack to use against a pokémon like Melody’s but it’s impressive and dangerous all the same. The horn at the Samurott’s head becomes sharp as if a blade, slashing the Overqwil with ease and leaving behind SPLINTERS.

"I just enjoy the thrill of battle honestly. But, hey, victory is a sweet bonus as well. Especially since I had to hold back during your gym challenge" She winks at Martín del Mar . The splinters lodge themselves into overqwil and cause some lingering pieces to damage it's body. [break][break]

That move could be a nuisance not only because of the chip damage it was slowly dealing to her pokemon but because also of how long that chip damage lasts. It will continue to add up until..[break][break]

"And now I don't have to hold back at all! Overqwill we need to finish this quickly! Minimize into a tackling attack!" she orders as the Overqwill suddenly shrank in size and rushed towards the samurott and then suddenly "EXPAND! NOW!" she orders as it returns to it's normal size and strikes samurott under it's mouth with a blunt pointed as to not kill it.

It would seem as if Melody Miro has a severe case of mistaken memories. That, or she’s just trying to be cheeky.

Whatever the case may be, her comment is met with a smirk, and when giving his response, Mars also winks: ”Really? Could have fooled me, with all that cursing and yelling.”
[break][break]
He is actually being cheeky, obviously, because the simple fact of the matter is that due to the parameters of Melody’s gym challenge, they both had had to hold back to some extent. Hell, he hadn’t even been able to use attacks or anything like that!
[break][break]
Although, it had been really fun…
[break][break]
This battle is too, in its own way, because matches like this always are, aren’t they? The kind of matches where there’s nothing real at stake – where there’s no actual danger. The Overqwil may be trying to hurt his Samurott, to best Odysseus and defeat him, but neither it nor Melody have the intent to kill with their offence. Neither does Mars, and he feels no real concern when watching the Overqwil decrease in size and then expand just in time to catch Odysseus by surprise with an attack.

The Samurott grunts, stumbling, and it becomes clear to Mars that pushing him to continue to battle would probably be difficult after taking such a beating. And so, he sighs, calling the pokémon back after it loses its footing.

”Well played, that was a great way to end it.” Smiling, Mars steps closer, offering a hand for Melody to shake as a manner of wrapping up their battle. ”Want to grab a bite after this? I’ll take the bill, since I lost.”
