See?! Matias gets it. She nods along as if It should be common knowledge, “I know, right?!” something about concussions and blah blah blah. She knows what a concussion is and what it feels like. It wouldn’t be her first one. She got one once when she was chasing ollie morales around the house when they were kids. Dad was so mad.

Eva’s happy they didn’t put up a fuss with her wanting to leave now that Matias was here. They were probably more than happy to shuffle the responsibility over to him. Eva finishes sitting up all the and scans the room for her pile of clothes. She’s sick of this itchy hospital gown too.

“Hmmm,” she hums and thinks while she moves to hops out of bed. She knows the list isn’t long, so she picks something she knows he can make, something easy, “Something warm and yummy, like grilled cheese and soup of something,” that sounds pretty good, comforting and not too heavy.

matias moves across the room in search of her clothes. he finds it folded away neatly likely by the nurse who may be regretting their kindness. the thought makes him laugh.[break][break]

She didn’t expect him to get up, she was fully capable of that. She still accepts her clothes with a small smile, “Thanks,” she slides out of the bed to start shimmying on her shorts in more gentle movements than she typically would. She’s careful to pull them up and over the cuts across her legs.

“Yeah, I feel fine,” not perfect but fine. In a careful motion she pulls the gown up and over her head to happily discard the thing onto the bed. It becomes quite obvious which parts of her were protected by clothes and the which parts were not. The shirt she slides on matches perfectly with where the untouched skin stops and the scars and bruises begin. For a moment she looks down at the tattered fabric, frowning, “Well, maybe it’s best I don’t . . .” the last thing they needed was reports snapping picture of her like this and formulating their own stories in the tabloids.

matias frowns at the sight of the many cuts that litter her body. he can feel the anger start to rise again but he's quick to contain it this time. store it, letting it fester for another time.[break][break]

Any characteristic Eva peppiness that returned has started to fade. Her shoulder slump in defeat, reminded again of her incompetence. She reluctantly takes the jacket from Matias when offered. It’s far too large for her when she puts it on but it does the job of covering up a good portion of what it needs to.

“Yeah,” she agrees, slumping back down to sit on the bed, “I’ll just wait for Blade to TELEPORT me home, that way I don’t have to walk outside,” she glances back up at Matias mustering up a small smile, “I’ll meet you there? I don’t think he’ll be too much longer.”

worry etches across his features at her suggestion partly because of blade but also because he knows what it feels like to TELEPORT when injured. it's risky, to say the least.[break][break]

but it does beat the alternative of walking outside to a swarm of press. he assumes there's one, anyway.[break][break]

The concern doesn’t miss Eva. She feels it too. It’s not the best idea. Teleportation was hard on the body, even when you were in peak conditions. Unfortunately, she didn’t see much of another choice. So she shrugs her shoulders and feigns a pretty convincing smile, “Yeah, I’ll be fine – I’ll see you at home,” and that’s what happens.

Much to Blade’s lament, he agrees to TELEPORT her home. It beats the alternative of taking her back to the empty Ever Grande apartment where she’ll sit by herself. At least someone else can keep an eye on her. Despite the Gallade’s beef with Matias, he at least knows the Elite Four trainer is strong enough to keep her safe – safer than he can.

Eva is lying on the couch, attempting to doze off but Blade won’t let her. When Matias arrives, he doesn’t bother to stay in the room long. Instead, he slinks off out the back door to sit on the porch.

Matias’s presence perks her back up and she sits up on the couch, “Hi,” she rubs her eyes with her fists, the exhaustion catching up to her, “I didn’t think I’d get here so quick.”

TELEPORT takes eva away, leaving behind ripples of space and time that linger in front of him for what feels like forever. when it finally fades, he steps away, contemplating.[break][break]

in truth, he contemplates visiting the tree of life. bryan delarosa would likely be there, surely, as he usually is. he pictures the scene: the tree of life on fire, xerneas decapitated, and bryan kneeling before him, pleading.[break][break]

it's a scene, however, as the door opens only for another nurse to poke her head through.[break][break]

"oh. yeah, i'm leaving."[break][break]

some time passes before matias arrives home. he locks eyes with the gallade for a moment before turning his attention to eva on the couch.[break][break]

"there was a long line at the store, sorry."[break][break]

but whatever anger from before fades into the background, overpowered by the sight of her finally back at home.[break][break]

"you weren't sleeping, right?"

In all truth, Eva hadn’t really noticed how long it had taken for Matias to get back. She wasn’t paying attention and it seemed fairly quick to her. Perhaps that’s the side effect of trying to doze in and out of sleep.

As Matias’s presence pulls her out of a haze, she smiles, realizing she’s home. The familiar living room is comforting, and the couch is much nicer than the cheap one in her little Ever Grande apartment.

“Oh, it’s fine, sorry you had to wait in line . . . I could have just gotten by on take out or something,” anything really. She wasn’t too picky.

Her gaze breaks away from his to look out the dark windows where Blade had gone, “No, he wouldn’t let me,” there’s a little bitterness in her tone, likely from the crankiness that came with being tired.

words he thought he'd ever say. what a strange day this has been.[break][break]

in the kitchen, matias starts cooking grilled cheese and tomato soup which is a pairing the internet recommended to him. it seems easy enough to make as well.[break][break]

while some of it cooks, he busies himself with putting groceries into the fridge.[break][break]

"i got some of the things you like." he raises a carton of milk over the door of the fridge. "like this milk. did you know it's twice the price of the regular stuff?"

Although it was likely not intentional, Eva smiles when she hears Matias compliment Blade. She’s not oblivious to the growing tension between them, and it’s something she hopes she can smooth out. Eva doesn’t want to be caught in the middle and forced to choose a side.

A Matias gets to work, Eva slowly stands, making her way to the kitchen in a sleepy shuffle. She hasn’t changed yet, still sporting the same tattered clothing from earlier and a loose hospital bracelet around one wrist.

“Oh, thanks!” a light flush crosses her cheeks when he mentions the price, “Yeah . . but their farming practices are much more sustainable and Miltank get huge pastures to roam in! Truly free roam and grass fed,” And it just tastes better, that’s a bonus though in her mind.

The kitchen soon smells like butter and melted cheese. It immediately triggers a low growl to rumble through her stomach. She raises a hand to place over it, “I didn’t realize I was that hungry.”

it does taste better but only just slightly. although, there are days where he can't taste the difference, so he wonders if it's just a psychological thing.[break][break]

the soft grumble of her stomach makes him chuckle.[break][break]

"how long ago did you last eat?"[break][break]

thankfully, it doesn't take him long to finish up their meal. plated and ready, he leads them over to the dining table (or the couch if she prefers).[break][break]

"this is going to be the grilled cheese you've ever had. i hope you're ready."

Eva is not quite sure when the last time she ate was. Therefore, she doesn’t think much about it, “Before my hike, I guess,” she certainly hasn’t eaten since. So yes, it’s been quite a while since her last meal.

While Matias finishes the meal, Eva pours herself some water from the fridge. What she really wants is some whiskey, but it’s probably best she stays away from the alcohol. Ultimately, Eva chooses the couch, it sounds comfier.

“Best grilled cheese, huh?” She curls up in the corner and reaches for the food with a smile, “I’m definitely ready,” it smells delicious and her stomach curls hungrily in anticipation, “You can have the other half if you want,“ she offers him the half she didn’t pick up.
