There were few moments of which Rowan was able to find peace these days, and most of them he chose to share with Adrian Malcolm . Today, however, he chose to spend his time with the Rocket Admin and financier of his project, Martin Del Mar. “I’m at the restaurant, sitting in the back.” He sent the text to his dining companion, trading the phone for his drink as soon as the message cleared.

This wasn’t an opportunity to discuss business, he’d invited Mars out for a meal in order to get to know the man better. Killian Decker hadn’t liked him since he’d nearly gotten Alexandra Briarwood killed, and THEO BECKETT was someone he could never see having a relationship with outside of the professional. Martin was the one chance he had to actually make a friend in the upper echelon of Team Rocket, now that Chu-e Choi was dead.

It’s as if these days he’s even busier than usual; as if there’s always something for him to do.

Work for the bank, work for Team Rocket, work for the numerous projects he has invested both time and other resources into, work to keep track of the activities of his family’s syndicate, and perhaps above all else, work to unveil the mysteries that consume him. Not a second left to sit and idly think about life. Not a second left to ponder on things Mars doesn't want to ponder on. A trap, or perhaps a safe bubble of his own design.

But, even the busiest man must spare himself some free time; calm moments to unwind and enjoy things as simple as a nice meal. These days, for the sake of avoiding this pondering of his, Mars chooses to always spend those moments in the company of others. Today, it happens to be Rowan Wrynn at a restaurant in Ever Grande City. The invitation had been appreciated and welcomed indeed, because admittedly, there’s only a few people in Rocket who’s company Mars actually enjoys, and Rowan happens to be one of them. It would be good to get to know him better.

”Nice choice.” Is the first thing Mars tells the Beast when arriving at the restaurant table where he awaits, flashing a smile that is ever too calm and confident. Sitting down, he nods towards Rowan’s glass. ”Any recommendations?”

“Thanks.” Rowan smirked slightly, glancing over the menu with prying eyes. “Honestly, no. It’s my first time in Ever Grande City, I just found the fanciest place that had reservations open.” He chuckled, offering a shrug towards Mars. Places like these weren’t his typical choice as of the last few months, barely having time to shovel fast food in his face with the project he’d taken on. Sea Mauville was a beast of its own, becoming more stressful by the day, but that wasn’t why he’d invited the man here today.

That could be discussed another time.

“I’m thinking about the lobster thermidor, myself. Which, I should mention, I’m paying for tonight.” It was the least that he could do, considering how much money the Piazza Oro Grande Bank had fronted for his project.

“So, you know what I've been working on. How about you?”

”Oh really? Does it live up to all your expectations?” A smirk mirrors that of Rowan Wrynn. For being the seat of power of the League and for all the grandiosity of its name, Ever Grande City really isn’t all that great. Or, well, in Mars’ opinion, at least, and admittedly, he may or may not be somewhat biased when it comes to this.

”You’re really going for fancy, huh?” He jokes at the mention of lobster thermidor, looking through the menu. Of course, Mars is no stranger to places like these, and even if usually he doesn’t have time for things like going out to eat, his assistant always gets his lunch from fine dining restaurants. The choice is simple. ”Thank you for the offer, though. It’s kind of you.”

It’s not like paying would be an issue, but he appreciates the sentiment nevertheless: it shows that Rowan isn’t just here trying to take advantage of his generosity.

And then business comes up and he chuckles, because it always seems as if things circle back to business...

”Other than with the bank? A few things. We launched a new app recently and I’m setting up programs for our charitable foundation. Oh… And then there’s the casino, though Kilian is more hands-on about that one.”

Those are just the most well known projects of his. There’s other investments and then there’s also the illicit activities of which he cannot speak at a place like this.

It'd been an operation with NIKO MANNER, whom Rowan had only recently just learned was deceased. It was a shame, he was rather pleasant. "Not really my thing, though." A prospect with Killian Decker was interesting though, he wasn't aware of the underboss' desires to own a casino, then again they weren't exactly the most close of people. [break][break]

"Probably for the best I don't go, I don't think Killian has forgiven me still after what happened between me and Alexandra." Without context, the sentence sounded scandalous, but he knew Mars to be a rather thorough person. Undoubtedly they were aware of what happened at the Cave of Origin and how they'd had to leave Alexandra Briarwood in the hands of the League in order to escape.

Rowan’s comment about not being fond of gambling gets a light laugh out of him, because it would seem they have yet another thing in common.

”Honestly, neither am I. I’m too competitive to enjoy things that depend on almost impossible odds.” He smirks, and he doesn’t call it luck, for luck is something Mars neither believes it nor cares for. ”It does make for a good investment, though.”

Of course, there’s also the fact that beneath the casino there are hidden training facilities to be used by Team Rocket once the M.A.G.M.A Division is launched, but that is not something that can be discussed here and now.

Especially not as the waiter comes to take their order, leading Mars to pause the conversation. Once the waiter leaves, he looks at Rowan once more. The Beast’s assumption is right: he had read the reports.

”Yeah, that might take some time… But, it was a tricky situation, and I don’t take you for someone who wouldn’t have felt guilty about it. That has to count for something, no?”

In Team Rocket, they all put on masks, but as much as they may try to be the perfect soldiers the syndicate requires, at the end of the day, they’re just human. That’s an undeniable fact.

”Ha. Sounds like Lex alright.” Mars laughs, although the truth is that no matter how close he may be with Killian Decker, he and Alexandra Briarwood have never really interacted much. Still, she’s not someone anyone should piss off, and that much is more than obvious.

The mention of Unown catches his attention, as it always does, although these days it’s for reasons much different than what they had been once.

”They’re… going.” Despite his words, there’s a smile. Too much has changed. Does Rowan realise that? How much has he heard? ”What happened in The Cloud changed a lot, as you can imagine.”

The name of the hellish cyberspace is spoken cautiously, quietly, making sure no one overhears, and yet, hellish as it may have been, there’s a part of Mars that wishes he could return and study it. There's so much left to learn.

There was no doubt Mars knew about his suicide attempt, the one that had been thwarted at the hands of his own Pokémon. Rowan didn't blame the Greninja for knocking him unconscious, but that didn't make him feel any better about the situation. "Yeah, quite a bit changed." Including his outlook on life itself, but that was a deeper conversation that he wasn't ready to have. [break][break]

"What happened in your Terminal, anyways?" He asked, quick to shift the subject. "Haven't heard much talk of what happened in the Past or Future, myself."

He knows. He had seen it, and he remembers, even if at the time he himself had been in a terrible state. But, it’s not something he’ll push Rowan to discuss. Not now, not yet, maybe not ever. That is Rowan’s choice to make, because as Mars sees it, nothing good will come if the conversation is forced in the first place.

”Past apparently saw the origin of the universe. You know all that Church of Arceus stuff? ’In the beginning, there was only a churning turmoil of chaos. At the heart of chaos, where all things became one, appeared an Egg.’? Kind of like that, but different.”

In the most basic sense, it’s the best explanation he can give, because much of what they saw can’t really be put to words. Church of Arceus verses come easily due to his upbringing as much as his research into Sinnoh’s legends, but that’s also something Mars doesn’t bother explaining.

[attr="class","rowwtw"]Rowan took a moment to gather his thoughts, finding it difficult to create a timeline of events considering the chaotic nature of the Cloud. Didn't help that he'd been knocked unconscious either, wasn't like the movies at all where you wake up with a slight headache. "We saw Dialga and Palkia." He began, the pictures beginning to slowly form in his mind. "They were working together, to protect us, I think. To stop our Hoenn from being destroyed." That was his interpretation of events, the legends attempting to hold their reality together and ensure it wouldn't break.[break][break]

"These hands came out of the sky, creepy things. All white, with golden accents. They started to constrict Palkia and Dialga, trying to stop them from doing their job." He held up a finger, grabbing one of the cloth napkins with a hand and his pen with another. After a moment of scrawling he came up with the image, sliding it across the table to Mars. "Looked something like that."
