Klaus had put up a brave face of being polite to his superior, Martín del Mar, though now that he was alone again after his delivery less than flattering thoughts were swimming through his mind; the man could have at least warned him the Spectrier was going to be kicked up into a gallop as opposed to something more manageable like a damn trot.

Hands shoved in his pockets, his Dhelmise floating carefree at his side, Klaus mutters absently as he stalks back through the Petalburg woods. Forgoing the trail this time, he follows a deer-trail with little thought until he is well and truly deep into the woods. Only realizing he has gotten off course so badly by the darkening of the forest, Klaus pulls up short.

Opening his mouth and then promptly closing it, his brow furrows as he glances around the gloomy underbrush, a low noise sounding in the back of his throat. Glancing askance to his Dhelmise, he confides after a moment, "I think I fucked up." A low wail sounds from Hansel in turn, causing Klaus to snort. "Thanks."

The faint scent of smoke and buzzing soon grabs his attention, his head canting in the direction of the noise and smell. lips pursing, and curiosity getting the better of him, he changes direction to investigate

What he wouldn't get to just lay down and sleep instead.

ABEILLE (♀) PRESSURE: HEX, ATTACK ORDER, DEFENSE ORDER, TOXIC SPIKES, SLUDGE BOMB, VENOSHOCK

Some days, Elisabeth imagined she had the entirety of the Petalburg Woods memorized. Every day, without fail, she woke up and took a walk throughout the forest to clear her mind, one of her faithful Pokemon in tow. Today was no exception to that rule.

Following her was a radiant Vespiquen, one that she had met in this very place while in the company of BARNABY FINCH what felt like ages ago. "Do you smell something, Abeille?" Elisabeth asked, pausing mid-step as the scent of smoke wafted through the air.

Huh. That was new.

"Shall we investigate, then?" Elisabeth said, and the bee buzzed in assent, following her in a royal train as they wandered deeper into the underbrush. As the stench got more powerful, a far different scene greeted the blonde than she had anticipated:

That of klaus anchoret, looking around like a lost little lamb.

"Klaus? What brings you here?" Elisabeth asked, approaching with a curious tilt of her head.

Shuffling along none too elegantly, Klaus enters a small clearing where someone was working, but seems to have abandoned their work; in the centre is a smouldering fire threatening to spill out from the confines of the stones surrounding it. Humming a soft noise, his brow furrowed, he jumps all of a sudden at the sound of another voice.

Eyes wide with surprise, hand now on his rapidly beating chest, Klaus looks over his shoulder to spy Elisabeth. "Stupidity," Klaus answers with a tired slur. Exhaling audibly, he shifts his hand to rub at the shadows bruising under his eyes, a half-smile offered the woman.

"The hell are you doing out here," he asks in turn. With that spoken he turns back to peer at the abandoned setup, his tired brain unable to make any of the obvious connections with the beehive hanging nearby.

Stupidity, hm? Elisabeth lifted an eyebrow, but chose not to comment on the answer. She'd already long learnt to accept Klaus's own self-effacing humour for what it was.

"I live nearby," she said instead with a shrug of her shoulders. "I find taking a stroll through the woods is relaxing, from time to time. I suppose I find peace in it."

Abeille buzzed irritably behind Elisabeth as the blonde examined the smoke drifting towards the beehive in silence. It would not be her first time encountering hostile Combee in the Petalburg Woods, but from the confusion on klaus anchoret's face, he had not been the one to begin this smoke-out operation.

"Someone is trying to get honey," Elisabeth commented idly. "Or was. The Combees have been gorging on it, I see, after being smoked out. They shouldn't sting you."

Although should was hardly a guarantee, when Pokémon were involved.

"Oh," Klaus mumbles vacantly, his brows furrowing together as he takes stock of the little abandoned work area. He then exhales audibly, his hand lifting to rub at one tired eye. Elisabeth's explanation makes sense on a base level, one that Klaus is presently reaching for. Insomnia was a bitch.

"Alright," he says instead, as if contributing to the conversation.

A soft buzz fills the air, and it takes Klaus perhaps a touch too long to recognize and place the appearance of a Vespiquen from the underbrush, the bee pokemon looking none too pleased at the two trainers. "Shit," Klaus suddenly utters, his hands fumbling until he produces a pokeball to release a sleek, soporific looking Typhlosion from its depths. Her little ears perking towards the Vespiquen, the Hisui Typhlosion glances over her shoulder to her trainer.

Arceus he's so tired.

Whatever directive Klaus intends give sticks in his throat, leaving the Typhlosion to fend for herself when an Attack Order is given and myriad Combee make their presence known. With a little huff, appearing almost cheeky at the challenge, flames burst along the Typhlosion's back before the area is consumed in a Smokescreen.

The billowing smoke merely irritated Elisabeth's own Vespiquen, who buzzed as she scattered TOXIC SPIKES in a protective circle around the trainers.

Aimed to strike, they stung the infringing circle of Combee arriving in service of their own queen, the purplish tincture of their POISON affliction seeping through their pale yellow hue into something sickish and green.

Upon seeing klaus anchoret's exhausted state, Elisabeth subconsciously took a step back to stand beside him, hesitating. "Are you up to handling this?" she asked, not unkindly, as she directed Abeille to use VENOSHOCK on the impending horde.

He seemed liable to collapse at any moment.

"Huh? Oh, yeah," Klaus babbles, flashing what's likely supposed to be a charming grin that falls desperately short. "Infernal Parade," he manages through his fog. Snorting softly as she peers over her shoulder at her trainer, the Typholosion nonetheless calls forth balls of ghostly flame, which she begins merrily pitching at the arriving Combee.

It's not long before, between the combined efforts of the Typholosion and Elisabeth's Vespiquen that the Combee and wild bee queen are beaten back, many worse for wear and not a few sporting signs of burns. Once the glade is cleared out Typholosion turns to grin cheekily at the pair of trainers; with a little wag of her short tail she juggles four balls of fire, each slowly disappearing until naught but smoke remains.

Giving a little snort at his pokemon's antics, Klaus heaves a sigh as he takes stock of his surroundings again. Cringing internally, and wishing he'd brought entirely different pokemon for once, he risks a glance to Elisabeth and asks hesitantly, "Can I crash on your couch?"

In the aftermath of the battle, Elisabeth exhaled in relief. She was beginning to get incredibly, impossibly tired of dispatching Combee.

And Klaus himself just seemed to be getting tired.

"Of course you can stay with me," Elisabeth said before she could stop herself. There was no reason to deny klaus anchoret a night at her place; it was late, and the poor man looked on the brink of exhaustion. Still, the fact she had offered the kindness so easily surprised her.

'Are you losing your edge?' she secretly wondered. 'Or have you always been this soft-hearted?'

The way back to the cottage through the Petalburg Woods was something Elisabeth had memorized a long time ago. Allowing Klaus to lean on her for support, she guided him through her front door and to the back of her living room. It wasn't much, but it was enough for a single person to spend the night.

"Is a blanket and pillow enough?" Elisabeth asked, awkward as she carried both in her arms. The quilt had floral patchwork; the pillow itself was green as the gardens outside her window. These were things Elisabeth had on hand for company, but frankly, had never used once until now.
