To be perfectly fair it was one of those days he didn’t want to be easily recognized when it came to milling around the cities. Sure, he liked going around—but with the way he was getting more and more renown he realized that this was all coming at the cost of something he was now craving: his privacy![break][break]

Which then led to this insane idea he’d brought up with Miss Isra Nightingale as of late when he’d come by a few evenings ago for a visit with some alcohol: why not try dressing up in drag to get away from the attention? He knew it would involve much makeup as well as literally ‘erasing’ his softer, more prominent features—he was all for it.[break][break]

…which would explain him—her, walking around the crowded port city today dressed up in something fluffy and pink. Originally he wanted to keep his boots but at her behest he had to get heeled ones, since his own pair looked too masculine underneath the coat that he—she was currently wearing.[break][break]

Why the long, body-hugging coat?[break][break]

Simple: he had too much of a bulk to wear short-sleeved dresses safely![break][break]

The longer hair was his own idea, however. Now that he had like several wigs’ worth in his apartment hidden in a safe in his apartment back in Fortree, it was all a matter of time to cobble together everything else—the rest of the clothing, the make-up, the accessories—hell, they’d even decided to go the whole ten yards and pick out a Pokémon team for him while he was undercover as a lady![break][break]

…so now here she was, wandering around the shopping district, wondering what the uproar not too far ahead was. Overhearing the racket and cries of a frustrated director yelling all manner of profanities into the crowd, he could only guess—what had happened and why were they publicly despairing…[break][break]

“No way around this but to find out myself,” she said with a sigh, moving some of the hair that had fallen across her face out of the way and heading over to the source of the commotion.[break][break]

what could

all this commotion be? that is what rhian wonders as she tries to make way between rows and rows of bystanders. being rather petite, her attempts end up being just that: attempts. she's about to give up when suddenly the sea of people opens up.

"huh?" is her natural first reaction. from drowning in the midst of a horde to being the last one standing, rhian looks up in confusion. somehow, she's found herself in the spotlight.

oh no, how embarrassing!

she tries to scuttle back into the crowd, but a man on a director's seat calls her. the only way she knows it's a director's seat is because it's literally labeled that, word for word on the back. "i-i'm sorry!"

the stutters begin and don't stop. she feels like a kid caught stealing cookies before lunch. slowly, she answers the man's call. left foot, right foot. with every step, the attention she's being given grows more overwhelming.

"w-what, me? b-but you already have that pretty lady over there, don't you?" the woman in question looks like an older, prettier and more mature version of rhian. she can't begin to understand why they'd want her too.

things start looking steep when she's told they would be using both of them in their music video. rhian realizes seconds too late that, despite being so close to the scene, the woman had until then been only an spectator, like she hoped she could be again.

She wasn’t expecting to be suddenly shoved forward—by the retreating crowd, of all things—and then sooner or later there were now two of them, being beckoned forward by what she guessed was the director of the entire spectacle going on in the street![break][break]

“Wha—what? You want… us both?” she began, blurting out—really nervous at everything, being suddenly shunted forward into the limelight. She was pretty sure that anyone else who wasn’t the greenette who knew of what she was doing were going to see her, on live television…[break][break]

Oh, shit.[break][break]

“But… I’m just a visitor here! Are… are you certain you want me? Why not her?” she continued, embarrassed noises escaping her as she made a gesture to the more petite woman that had been called forward—but no, the director wanted them both![break][break]

“Wait, are you—“ she continued, before suddenly being shunted forward into what appeared to be a dressing room—where she knew that her little disguise would be up, unless they had some kind of body-fitting outfits for her to wear and slip into![break][break]

Oh, shit! She thought, a flush of color spreading across her face in an embarrassed pattern. Was she going to get busted this early? She mentally crossed her fingers and hoped that she’d have to wear some kind of body-concealing costume instead![break][break]

the dressing room offer some level of protection from the crowd and the scary director. she and the woman were both ushered into the same room, where a number of assistants argued over which outfit would fit their body shapes better.

rhian chooses to ignore them for now, as she turns to her fellow victim of circumstances. "i'm so sorry," she apologizes for unknowingly dragging her into the chaos of this music video production.

she still doesn't get why or how things turned out this way, but she can't deny it is effectively happening and she wants to try and make the best out of it. it's been her only way of coping with difficult situations.

her eyes scan the scene before them. "i really hope they don't make us wear those swimsuits," she says, pointing at the pair of revealing bikinis that one member of the crew was flaunting to another. rhian's gaze then turns back to the blonde woman.

"aren't you hot, with that coat on? let me help you," she offers, hands raised up to take the pink coat from her without quite touching the warm fabric. before she can quite manage, though, they're separated by the two women previously arguing. "seems they made their choice," rhian mutters as she's ushered into a smaller dressing room.

when she reemerges from the dressing room, rhian wears a white sundress and a pair of pretty ballet shoes with only the smallest of heels. apparently, she'd be playing the other woman's daughter in a music video where the mother mourned her stillborn child by imagining a life with her, now stolen.

"is this really going to be fine?" she wonders aloud.

“No need to apologize, we just got caught in a bad spot,” she began, before they were ushered toward the back part of the crowd, where there was a place to get dressed—it looked like an air conditioned tent, really. Once they were shunted inside, she blinked a few times in order to get adjusted to the interior.[break][break]

…and then she had to bring up the idea of swimsuits.[break][break]

Well, that was going to be the fastest way to get him busted.[break][break]

“Arceus, I hope not…” she breathed out—before suddenly shrugging off her help. “Oh no, no, I’m fine, I’ll manage,” she continued—he’d prepared for this instance by wearing the coat as frequently as possible. Even went shopping for the appropriate underwear for it just in case things came to a head.[break][break]

Before she could help him get out of the pink coat, she was shunted off towards another identical dressing room, paying no mind to the chatter of the ladies that were herding her toward it. After being given several options on what to change out of, she had to insist that she at least have some kind of a jacket on…[break][break]

…and was now inside the small dressing room, being guarded by one of the most annoying ladies he’d ever had the misfortune to meet! Forced to change out of the pink coat, he finally took a break as he stripped down before looking at the clothes that were given to him—at least there was a jacket, as per ‘her’ request.[break][break]

Checking to see if the clothes were thick enough, not to mention not so form-fitting, he then let out a snort before shimmying into them, making sure to pay attention to his ‘chest’ while he was at it.[break][break]

Ahh, the pain of a costume change.[break][break]

Once she was shunted out of the dressing room and back into the much louder area, she spotted her companion wearing the prettiest little sundress. In stark contrast, she was wearing something much more somber—a selection of clothing for a mother in mourning—a modest number in black.[break][break]

“I hope so… I’m wearing all-black and this is looking to be a hot day…” she mumbles, before adjusting the hat that had this weird-ass looking black ‘veil’ draped over the front.[break][break]

A pair of shades and several handkerchiefs later, she was all set.[break][break]

rhian laughs

softly at the woman's mumbled words. the irony is not lost on her. "at least it's thinner than the coat, right?" she says, not in an attempt to tease but out of genuine worry.

despite its colors (its singular color, really), the woman's outfit makes her look so elegant and pretty, and rhian makes sure to let her know as much, even if not so consciously or politely. sometimes she just blurts out the first thing that comes to her mind, like today's "black suits you so well though!"

or maybe the woman's height was such that anything could look good on her.

luckily they have no lines per se, but that's no reason for relief in their case. lip syncing might be just as hard as regular dialogue, if not worse because they'd also require some level of coordination and notion of the song's beat.

which, by the way, they still need to memorize! the song starts playing in the background, to guide them. "one step closer," rhian mouths, tasting the tune that would soon be playing on repeat not only in her head but also all around them.

Oh, crap. I completely forgot about that! At least I don’t have to wear a swimsuit or some other revealing junk! She thought in a panic; thankfully they weren’t going to have any spoken lines for this, just appearing in a visual spectacle that…she hoped nobody else from the League would see.[break][break]

…had she done her make-up thick enough? Had she done it convincingly enough? At least the dinky little veil concealed enough of her features so that she wouldn’t be recognizable by anyone else but the greenette. Letting out a sigh of relief, she was about to ask what they needed to do next when she heard the melody blaring out all around them.[break][break]

“Please… please don’t tell me we have to memorize that song…” she said presently. If there was one thing she wasn’t too fond of, it was the occurrence called ‘last song syndrome’, and from the looks of things they were going to be subject to it by the end of the day![break][break]

Ira made a mental note to never leave the house before dark again. The personal displeasure she was experiencing from having been dragged into being an 'extra' at a fake funeral because she dared to wear a darkly colored dress was beyond what she was generally willing to tolerate. She had things to do and places to be and this was in no way one of them.

She was desperately trying to find a way to weasel out of it with grace to save face when she was placed next to one of the main actresses, because apparently they expected her to lip sync as well? She was barely paying attention because really she didn't care. She didn't want to deal with the blow back of being in the spot light like this. Even just as an extra part of the cast that was singing some kind of back up lyric??

Arceus, this was the kind of shit that made her avoid most of society.

She side eyed the lady in black, hoping she wouldn't recognize her face enough for the comment to have any kind of oroblem attached she'd have to deal with later and whispered "If I kick the director and run are you going to throw a fit about missing out on your 15 minutes of fame?"

she wouldn't actually do it because there were too many witnesses... but she would think about it the entire time she was here.

It didn’t take too long for them to find a replacement, and now that they did, he had to do a double-take—he recognized the person wearing the dress![break][break]

Unable to bite a smirk back for the briefest of moments, he let her rant a little bit, and he could understand why she was thoroughly pissed—she didn’t like being out in the sun and preferred to stay indoors, at least until nightfall.[break][break]

“Psst, Miss Isra,” he decides to break the illusion for all of five seconds by whispering so low only the two of them can hear, “It’s me. I wouldn’t care less if you kicked the director in the balls, for all I care,” he adds with a bit of a Cheshire cat-like grin on his face for a few moments before faking a coughing fit as one of the producers came closer. The better to hide the fact that he’d slipped and broken his voice.[break][break]

As the instructions came and went, he then sighed, and switched back to his ‘normal’ voice.[break][break]

“You want us to do…how many takes? In this heat? Are you for real?” she continued, adopting the most affected voice she can ever muster. “Maybe you should reconsider the weather… black dresses and summer heat are terrible combinations,” she added with a sigh, before looking at her unlucky companion.[break][break]

“Wouldn’t you agree?” she asks the greenette.[break][break]

Suddenly the world is a little bit brighter.

They don't really get to chat long but Isra can appreciate his comment none the less because she agrees whole heartedly. Maybe even kick him twice just to be on the safe side at this rate.

"The likelihood of heat stroke is already something to be concerned about in our weather making people wear black like this in the middle of that just makes it worse and if I get a stroke my family will sue you for everything you're worth."

The individual in question seems to laugh it off until Isra starts pulling out her phone as if she's about to make a call to someone. The practiced expression on her face shows that she's ready to make a fuss (not really but she plays pretend well) and the individual starts to get nervous. When she presses a button and bring it to her ear they seemed to scatter, likely looking for someone to talk to about the threat she just made.

It'll by them a little time. "What is even the point of this? can't they just do something like this inside?" she's frustrated beyond belief. "Forget it lets get out of here."

And fast, because if this director was so stubborn he would likely try to push through despite the bluff and track them down again regardless.

“Why outdoors, this is absolute murder,” she remarks, looking through the small handbag that was given as part of the props. Seeing that there was a fan inside, she pulls it out and snaps it to attention, before beginning to fan herself.[break][break]

It’s at this point she notices that the greenette has gone for her phone, and there’s this unreadable look on her face as she presses a few buttons on the screen before lifting it up to her ear.[break][break]

And that’s more than enough to send the production team into a tizzy. More than a tizzy, she notices, by the way that everyone else is suddenly nervous at the way she’s sassing them around.[break][break]

“It’s not going to be my fault if I faint from heat stroke… these clothes may be very pretty, but at the same time they’re terribly impractical for this kind of weather,” she says presently, hiding the bottom half of her face behind the fan and then suddenly breaking out into a smirk behind it.[break][break]

A few moments later she continues to fan herself, before reaching into the pockets of the black dress she’s wearing to pull out a phone as well.[break][break]

“Oh, look,” she continues in the same affected tone, “…my boyfriend’s worried about me. And to think he’s part of a much bigger studio who could potentially sweep this production under the rug…”[break][break]

Of course, she was adlibbing at this point. But the way she’d mentioned it came off like a threat, too.[break][break]

“Let’s go, I know someone else who can make better use of our talents…” she mentions to the greenette, unable to hold back a laugh at this point.[break][break]

Isra is quick to play along, nodding to everything Alexei says and letting him take over against as she continues with her fake phone call. But when she turns to walk away someone steps in front of her and starts asking questions. Like what family? She couldn't answer because Nightingales mattered in Kalos and Sinnoh and no one knew publicly she was a ruhan.

What lawyer, like hell if she had a name to give. Isra dealt with stuff herself which usually meant beating them with her parasol til they shut up.

There were more but she didn't bother answering just narrowed her eyes and geared up to deal with whatever else bullshit this was going to take them down. She didn't really have much choice at this point after all and it looked like it was going to be easier for them to play along than to not.

"You get one take and then I leave. That's the end of it." she said with a sternness and threatening glare. This time she wouldn't play nice if they didn't let them go, she'd beat a bitch with her parasol if she had to.

“Yes, what she said—you get one take, and if you don’t like it, you’ll have to live with it,” she adds in an affected, huffy voice. To make things even more dramatic she then looks into the little black bag and finds an equally-dark colored feathered fan.[break][break]

Truly, it was absolutely ridiculous, the way they were being herded around in dresses in this weather.[break][break]

“You idiots,” she hisses, and for a few moments her voice almost quakes and breaks. Much as she wants to scare them off with her voice suddenly changing, she decides to save it for much later—when they really get on both their nerves.[break][break]

“You don’t know the Cohens. They’re from Kanto. My boyfriend has a brother who’s a lawyer—and he can sue you lot for negligence, look at the other actors and actresses you’ve hired—they’re also complaining, but they’re too scared to speak up because of the way you boss them around!” she continues, her voice going higher—so high, she’s almost in hysterics at the end of it.[break][break]

Looking over at the greenette, her eyes sparkle with hidden mirth, and shit, she wants to break her cover so early! She decides to keep it in as long as she can—but that’s until one of the other extras decides to take a grab for her hand and force her into position.[break][break]

At this, she snaps.[break][break]

“Don’t—touch me,” she hisses again, giving the person who dared to touch her the darkest glare she can muster. For a few moments, there’s this look of pure hatred that crosses through the purple eyes, before she lets out another huff and yanks her hand out of the poor sod’s grip.[break][break]
