It’s, unfortunately, been quite some time since the professor had visited Litteroot Town. The quiet, small village tucked away from most of the hustle and bustle was a favorite spot of hers when she first came to Hoenn. The people were quite friendly, and always appreciative of her free clinics. Hopefully, they didn’t hold a grudge. Since she had become Head Professor, her limited free time was mostly used to catch up. It left little time for volunteer work.

Thankfully, it seemed the people were still quite welcoming. Eva and Matias are greeted in the small town square by an elderly woman and smiles when she sees Eva, “Mrs. Wilcox! It’s nice to see you! How’s Archie doing? Getting’ around ok?”

”Ohhh he’s getting’ around great! Those supplements have made quite the difference, Doc!” Her narrowed eyes slowly glance between Eva and Matias, “Are you here to help with the Combee problem?” she seems hopeful, “I miss taking my walk, poor Mister Rudford was the latest victim . . . had to be rushed off to the Hospital in Mauvile! Arceus bless those Rangers.”

matias does not share the same love for littleroot as eva nor is he as appreciated by their residents as she seems to be. it's a nice sight to see, though, and it makes him happy for her.[break][break]

busy glancing around the area, it isn't until mrs. wilcox asks a question that he finally tunes into the conversation.[break][break]

looking back, he greets her with a smile.[break][break]

"yes, we are! bless those rangers indeed. to be doing so much while being paid so little...i cannot imagine."[break][break]

he sighs, dismissing the sentiment with a wave.[break][break]

The Ranger really are some of the underappreciated heroes of Hoenn. Even with funding shortages they get by and do a stellar job! Eva was actually a Ranger before becoming head Professor. She did get quite the pay bump.

Eva’s brow quirks slightly when he asks the question, frowning when she realizes its because he wasn’t listening that he doesn’t know her name. Seriously, she can’t bring this man anywhere, “Yes we are, Mrs. Wilcox,” Eva motions towards Matias, “This is my boyfriend, Matias. He’s an Elite Four member so he’ll make quick work of ‘em for you!” She proudly boasts with a nod, “Humane relocation, of course! Nothing too serious. The Rangers have a nice spot set up for ‘em far outside the city,” Eva didn’t want the locals getting the wrong idea.

“Ooohhh yes, um, I believe Mr. Rudford was attacked near the edge of the creek over by the Milton Ranch. That way,” she points down a small path leading out of town.

Eva offers the older woman a friendly smile in departure as well, “Thanks so much! Consider it handled!” The woman smiles in delight, nodding and waving as she continues on her slow stroll through town.

With the same smile, she accept Matias’s offer, placing her small hand in his own before they continue down towards the path that supposedly leads to the Combee. With her free hand, she cracks open a pokeball. A small Spoink bounces alongside them, lifting high into the air with enthusiasm, “Tupig will sniff ‘em out for us! Find us some Combee!”

With a rather adorable snort, the pokemon leaps forward down the path, its sensitive nose working overtime to ODOR SLEUTH some Combee.

Eva watches after the Spoink as it bounces ahead of them, traveling back and forth on the path to sniff them out some Combee. It seemed to not have any luck yet which is fine, if they were as aggressive as the locals say, the swarm would likely find them first.

“Yeah, it’s a spunky one,” she smiles, enjoying their little stroll through the countryside. As looks out over the gently rolling hills nostalgia hits her, and Matias read her mind, “Yeah, I think that’s why I like it so much too. It reminds me of home,” but that’s not always a good thing considering her last memories of home were battling Rocket in a Pallet Town Pokecenter.

“I like our new home more though,” she decides, smiling and giving his hand a gentle squeeze.

matias hadn't been at the battle of pallet town, but he is well aware of what happened and how rocket swept through the city. they had made a good stand at the pokecenter; they have eva to thank for that.[break][break]

though unsure whether she means hoenn or their literal house, he nods anyways, agreeing with a smile.[break][break]

Hoenn has given them so much, including each other. It’s hard not to think of it as home anymore. Eva would probably not recognize Kanto if she ever had the opportunity to go back.

The Spoink snuffs and oinks excitedly as it catches the scent of what it thinks is a Combee. The sweet, honey scent is hard to miss. It gets stronger, and her squeal in delight while bouncing up and down beside a spot on the path. He leans his head, pointing his pearl towards the foliage.

“PSYCHOCK ‘em!”

[break][break]

A burst of brilliant, multi-colored energy blasts from his pearl and straight into the woods. A shriek of surprise echoes and an unconscious Senret falls limply into the path. Eva pauses, blinking and looking down at the pokemon, “That’s not a Combee,” she sighs in disappointment.

The brief moment of silence is broken, and then the air around them erupts in a deafening BUZZ.

sorry, Greyson Connors, but matias is not that big a fan of combees and vespiquens. they're practical but that's about where their appeals end for him.[break][break]

the sudden BUZZ catches him off guard. he's quick to pull out earplugs in response — he'd started carrying them ever since his trip to primal hoenn with Melody Miro — but a PROTECT forms in time.[break][break]

Matias came prepared, Eva did not. Ear plugs weren’t something she ever thought about carrying around. The buzz is so distracting that she doesn’t even notice Matias slip some in. Eva and Tupig fall victim to the BUG BUZZ, both wincing, face distorting into something unpleasant. Eva covers her ears, keeling over at the sharp pain of a headache that erupts.

Luckily, a PROTECT saves them from any true damage, “Ugh, that was awful,” she almost feels sick, nauseous from the vibrations. Tupig is quicker to recover, and the Spoink joins Matias in the search for the Combee. Blinking, Eva glances around, catching a flash of yellow from behind Matias. All she can do it point a finger.

realizing a little too late, he pulls one of the earplugs out and offers it to her.[break][break]

just in case she needs it which may not be the case as he follows her finger over to the flash of yellow behind him.[break][break]

grinning, he whistles, and wisps of MAGICAL LEAVES start to form as they travel along the area, whipping up in a small tornado to drown out the swarm of combees.[break][break]

Ear plugs seem like a strange thing to just carry in your pocket. Eva has never really found the need for them. So when Matias offers her one, she looks at it in confusion, “What’re carrying these around for?” She doesn’t think she’ll need it any more so she shakes her head and lets him keep it. That way, at least one of them could be fully protected if anything happened.

The tornado of leaves rises into the air and flushes out the small swarm of Combee. They dash out of the green shrubs in haste to escape the attack. There seem to be three total at the moment, “Power Gem!”

Tupig springs forward, the sphere atop his head glowing brightly. A sparkling beam of granite crackles from the orbs and fires at the closest Combee. The dual type didn’t stand a chance. It succumbs to its weakness and squeaks in surprise before it falls to the ground limp.
