after the pokedex dings an invalid entry, the pokemon turns in mars’ direction. its eyes bear right through him.

he hears a voice in his head. this one differs from what he’s used to. it is not ethereal or prophetic like the fate he’s been toying with. it’s more like the TELEPATHY of most psychic pokemon but beyond just feelings and hunches.

it’s loud, as if unaware of its own volume, unaccustomed to his mind in particular.

a pause settles as the pokemon considers his spoken answer. its eyes drift between the many unown that surround him, unfazed, and unreactive aside from the constant wave of its tail.

mars will hear a pair of voices. distinct, different. one seems to carry the heavy gruff that sways masculine while the other is more articulate, feminine in contrast, but hard to tell otherwise.

the call to battle affects each voice differently. the difference between them is more than just their tone or pitch. their perceival, the way they approach the world, is as drastic as their creators.

the first HIDDEN POWER doesn’t pierce the BARRIER. it clashes against a translucent dome, flickering into existence before fading back into a static backdrop. when reinforcements come, the BARRIER wavers under their sheer weight. several penetrate, eventually shattering it as the mewtwo finds itself pelted by numerous attacks.

some hit and some hit hard. a reliance on agility kicks in after the first few but even mewtwo cannot navigate this maze of power.

so it looks to disrupt it. a forward thrust palm summons fierce gales that look to sever their perfectly aligned placement. if together they are strong then scatter them to the winds.

this is mewtwo’s HURRICANE.

WATCHING THE BATTLE UNFOLD through his phone will seem crystal clear now. however, should mars replay the footage later, the video will be riddled with distortions and blurred static. whether this disturbance is due to the SPACE-TIME DISTORTION or the pokemon’s PSYCHIC powers remains to be seen.

regardless, the result is unanimous: footage of MEWTWO is impossible.

an unfortunate truth that leaves PENELOPE LIVY’s retelling of her encounter yearning for something more conclusive.

TOGETHER, they are formidable. when the PSYCHIC tries to pry one loose, they link up in unity. protection in number. an admirable counter but not one that will do them any good.

while the strong cover for the weak, that does not discount the fact that there are in fact weak ones. it takes time to find them, especially as HIDDEN POWERS scorch and burn, but when it finds one suitable for absorption, it spring forward.

it lands somewhere near the tail end of the chain. like a feline, all four limbs grab ahold of the unown it’s picked out. with a predatorial reaction, portions of mewtwo’s body starts to melt into goo, growing around the unown to swallow it with an amoeba like hold.
