it was curiosity that brought aries to the ocean in search for anything barrier related.[break][break]

the idea that there's nothing that can be done about it worries them; especially with the threat of the meteor coming closer. from what she does know (which, unfortunately, isn't as much as she'd like to) even teleportation outside of the barrier doesn't work.[break][break]

which means the league's plans for the meteor won't work unless they find something. regardless of if she agrees with it, personally, she isn't about to just let it happen without doing her part- even if it's just confirming the worst.[break][break]

sable is careful in her flight, both because of aries on her back and because of what she can understand about the barrier. aries isn't looking for speed, this time- the last thing she wants is to fly into it and get hurt.

Oliver was given a mission to check out a supposed barrier. With communications and everything else having been cut off from the rest of the world, it made everyone nervious. Plus, it made certain plans impossible for the time being. Having missed out on helping out earlier against Necrozma, Oliver was eager to help out. Flying on Dragonite's back per usual, he should be pretty close to where it was. Bravary was out as well, to test it. From what he could see...there was nothing. No visible change to the water, no distortion of any kind, no indication that a barrier of some sort was around. He thought back to the Wailord swarm that was beaching themselves due to Sharpedo and possibly something else interfering with their migration habits.

Sighing heavily, he looked at Braviary. "Well, we're supposed to be close to the barrier...mind doing Sky Attack and see if you run into anything?" The birb screeched in confirmation, and started to gather up power. Looking around, he did notice something else flying around. It wasn't a Wingul or Pelipper. It was larger. Taking out a pair of binoculors, it looked like it was...a Salamence. An amazing Pokemon for sure. And someone was riding it. Slowly it seemed, like they were cautious of something. Well...maybe the rumors of a barrier may not be completely unfounded. But he guessed he'll see if Braviary hit anything with his Sky Attack...

OLIVER IS NOT THE ONLY ONE to have such an idea. several meters out from aries’ position, another attempts to breech the barrier. a long figure, lithe in shape, yet prominent due to the purple aura surrounding it, throws itself forward without concern.

when it strikes the invisible barrier, the pokemon is unable to pierce through. it stays there, dazed by the speed of which it had used to combat it.

it stays there for a moment before trying again, flying over the ocean, ramming into the barrier in several spots.

every attempt ends the same: to no avail.

aries, honestly, doesn't know what they're expecting. if there is a barrier, there's no sign of it from what she can tell. and, knowing what she does about the pokemon, she doesn't think sable is going to be able to tell much, either. not if more pokemon have ended up in danger due to not knowing the barrier was even there.[break][break]

there's someone else nearby, and aries, for a second, debates ignoring them. but if they're checking out the supposed barrier, then they may know more than aries has been able to figure out. but there's something else, too, something else sable seems to be more focused on. aries follows her dragon pokemon's gaze, furrowing her brows in confusion (and a little concern for whatever she's seeing).[break][break]

it isn't like anything she's seen before- she thinks it's a pokemon, obviously, but it's long and the purple aura surrounding it is new to her. as she watches, it throws itself at the barrier; to no avail. but that doesn't stop it from trying, again and again.[break][break]

and aries, unsure of what to do, just watches. she wants to call the other person over, see if they know what it is, but she also doesn't want to risk getting its attention. if it is some sort of pokemon, she doesn't want to get incredibly involved in case it's aggressive- especially not when she doesn't know what she's dealing with, here.

His Bravary flung himself at the barrier with a super charged Sky Attack. Hitting it, the birb was flung back. Shaking his head, Bravary glared at it. Sighing, Oliver should have expected that. After all, if it was so easily broken, they would have done so already. Looking back at the Salamence, he and his Bravary flew over to them. Maybe they had more information about it. The red head doubted it, but you never knew until you ask. As he got closer, he saw a second figure, below them. Long and skinny, he didn't recognize the Pokemon. To him, it looked like some sort of Psychic type. And that it wanted out or was testing the barrier at different spots to see if it was uniform in strength. As quietly as he could, he had Dragonite and Bravary get close to the person and her Salamence.

She seemed fixated on the creature as well...and Ollie noticed even his two Pokemon were nervous about it. He half wondered if it was a powerful Pokemon...since his Dragonite was usually pretty fearless. Of course, he was also very strong, too. The red head also hoped their talking wouldn't alert it to them. "Don't suppose you know anything about this barrier? Or that?" He pointed down at the lithe, floating creature. He maintained a friendly demeanor...no need making enemies when there shouldn't be any here.

FOR NOW, the pokemon ignores them. they, along with the wild life this far out at sea, are harmless bystanders. whatever aggression this pokemon has—what it displays—is focused on one thing.

the barrier.

when the mewtwo bounds off the barrier yet again, it gives up. it stands still for a moment, concentrating. the aura fades from existence mere moments before it fires a tirade of PSYCHIC blasts at the invisible wall.

even that isn’t enough to take it down.

Oliver watched the Pokemon go full on ham on the barrier with what looked like Psychic blasts. Shaking his head, he decied to back off and find someplace to land and rest a little bit. Finding a tiny island, Dragonite and Braviary landed on it. It was a good distance away from the Pokemon, but likely not so much that it couldn't see them. Still, both of his flyers were wary of it. Sighing, he couldn't help but wonder where did this dome come from. No signs whatsoever on anything about it. Including how to get rid of it. If the League had an idea on how to take down the meteor, hopefully whatever the plan was, it could also take down the barrier, and still have enough time for that second disaster. In the meantime, he just watched the odd Pokemon do its attacks to no avail. And hoped that it wouldn't try to vent its frustration at him.

A CHANCE ENCOUNTER

THE DOME MAINTAINS and it drives the pokemon wild. its inability to pierce through only escalates its attempts as the pokemon brings forth a single paw. from a distance, the details are fuzzy, but the hand seems to transform. it morphs into something long, almost like a craning neck, with a more angular end at the tip.

the blue lights of an attack form within the jaws of this strangulated maw, before it fires another attack.

when that fails too, it starts to drift along the barrier’s edge. in doing so, it comes closer to oliver, still oblivious, but close enough for him to discern the shape of its transformed hands. the paws no longer remain. instead, they have conjoined to recreate a pokemon’s head. it lacks the eyes and finer details but that’s because it’s entirely made out of the pokemon’s skin and flesh.

it’s horrific. unnatural.

As he continued to watch, Oliver was making notes. Including about the...did a part of that Pokemon's body transform? What the hell? He thought only Ditto can transform, and even then only the entire Pokemon it was copying. The red and black haired young man didn't know of any attack that allowed a Pokemon to do that. So far anyways. But as the Pokemon got closer...he got a better view of the morphed hand. It was certainly unlike anything he's seen...and he's seen a lot. Including some outright gruesome ends of people and Pokemon. But even this seemed off to him by a lot. Other this thing, there wasn't much else to report about the barrier itself, nor its origins. Not unless this Pokemon found something he didn't.

Ollie's Braviary and Dragonite were on guard now. The ranger pursed his lips. Was this a legendary Pokemon that got trapped here? The only thing he could do was take notes and hope that it maintained oblivious to him...

THIS DEFORMITY OF A POKEMON still cannot assail the barrier. no matter what attacks, blasts, or energy it musters, it cannot break through. for this contraption is all withstanding. it persists beyond the weakness of flesh and mortality. such permanence starts to break down the will and patience of all those who’ve tried to break free.

mewtwo is no exception.

when it gives in, it turns its attention to oliver. locks onto him with an uncanny accuracy. as if it knew he was there the entire time. from this pokemon’s stare comes a voice. a weak whisper diluted by the distance between them.

Oliver watched as it continued its assault, to no avail. When it finally gives up, it also noticed him. Immediately, his Dragonite and Braviary went into combat mode, but waited for the order or if the Pokemon attacked first. It didn't attack. Instead, a voice that was like someone was yelling from a great distance spoke in his head. The red head was surprised at first, but motioned his two friends to relax a little. No need to give it an excuse to try to harm them. Besides, something told him if it wanted to do them harm, it would have attacked already. "That's what I'm out here trying to figure out as well. We tried flying out from the top only to run into the barrier. Attacks don't seem to do anything to it...and even trying to dig underneath it seems useless since we still run into it. Still, we're not going to give up trying to find if there's a weak spot or something..."

They were just resting after all. Although, an idea did come to mind. He had Inteleon with him for ranged attacks...could them, Dragonite, and this Pokemon brute force their way through? Sounded unlikely, but he also didn't know if that been tried before. "Why don't you rest a little bit. And see if two of my friends' attacks and yours combined can break through? I get the feeling it won't, but never hurts to try." Teamwork, afterall. But just how willing was this Pokemon to work with them?

THE POKEMON STARTS TO FLY CLOSER. inches become feet and feet turn into meters as it glides across the ocean’s surface without ever touch it. ripples still radiate in all directions up until the pokemon stops a good pace away.

it stands there, frozen, as oliver explains. when he finishes, it still remain motionless.

For their credit, his Dragonite and Braviary looked offended. If it was any of his others, it would have been pretty accurate, since he hadn't had the time to bond with them as much. But these two? They were his oldest and dearest friends. Although...even on a technicality, which was the best kind of correct, he supposed the Pokemon wasn't wrong. "Well...you're not wrong. I befriended them and nursed them back to health before they decided to stay with me on their own. They're my oldest friends. And I would do anything for them." Ollie's Dragonite and Braviary both barked and screeched back in confirmation that they would do the same for him, not that Oliver could understand what they were saying. But he did have a pretty good idea.

"I'm Oliver Shrakes, a ranger. I was sent here to investigate this barrier and see what it's affect is on the wild Pokemon populations. What about you?" Hopefully his friendly demeanor would help, as well as introductions. Beyond just getting out, maybe he could see what this Pokemon's name was, and what was its purpose.

the voice trails off with an ominous lull. the pokemon remains still as the conscious loops circles but no more than a few moments pass before its tail swishes back to life.

THIS SEAL IS UNNATURAL.

IT IS A THREAT.

WE MUST BREAK OUT.

a PSYCHIC aura coats the mewtwo as it brings one paw forward. it faces the barrier but nothing happens.
