greyson clenches his jaw, squinting his eyes just slightly in contemplation. they were left with little options but climb in after, and that thought was... terrifying.

"it might be," he half-admits, peering further into the hole, "but we're all that we have. if we wait any longer, who knows the damage this hive could do." the odds of it having another exit was likely, and any attempts to surround the tree could be met with aggression, or just outright fleeing.

both were not good.

"i'll go in first. keep the fire in front of me," he instructs his pokemon. then, with a heft, he enters the hole.

he disappears behind it and she's left in darkness, only the silhouette of greyson on the other side lighting her way. so she follows, helping elisabet through after. and when they are inside, the smell hits her full force. it's sickly sweet; the combs in the interior are golden, oozing honey onto the ground. and because at least this makes sense, she feels a bit of relief. 

not much, but still. 

her voice is a muted whisper as she nears greyson. "the outer combs are going to be where they store honey. then pollen. then larvae. and then..." the queen. 

elisabet rattles and points to their left.

"i know," he says, her own unspoken words wrestling his thoughts constantly. "we need to find the queen anyways — and hope that she's alone." then again, when were they ever truly alone?

once on the other side, greyson clambers out, settling onto the dirt with a soft thud. he holds his hands out to help willow, before turning down the long corridor. the dim light of the flame offers him just enough light to see what awaits them

"i think that's it."
