Some part of Eva had hopped the brilliant Silph Co. would have cracked the case by now. Fernando had several world-renowned scientists working for him and the company had endless resources. So, she’s disappointed with his answer and it only breeds more unsettling thoughts in her mind.

“Could be, that did cross my mind,” she agreed, partially, with his theory on it being related to the space-time distortions, “Well, the space part, for sure,” it also makes her wonder, “What if time is stopped here too and we just . . . don’t realize it?” there’s no way of knowing what going on in the outside world while this barrier is erect. Communication as proved impossible along with every other thing they have thrown at it to try and take it down.

Sootopolis make her shiver. Eva was not present during the event, but she watched in horror form a distance. She feared for all those involved – even the known Rocket members. In the aftermath she did was she could to help and heal, not biased towards affiliations. There was so much death, “Hm, I hope it keeps that thing out. It wouldn’t make much sense to keep everything else out though, would it? If that’s the goal, why not just trap it in Galar and keep it contained?” Eva would never wish such evil on a region but she had to play Giratina’s advocate to keep the mind turning.

“Recently I did some studies on Primal Energy and Infinity Energy,” in particular with skyler dross’s blue orb, “There’s something interfering with the energies, corrupting it. I’m not sure if it was a result of the evil in Sootopolis or perhaps who or whatever was preparing to create this dome.”

She has been unsettled for quite some time, “The balance has been lost, it needs to be restored,” Equilibirum is vital to survival – not just within a living body but within nature itself. When the balance is disrupted, bad things happen.

“TIME CONTINUES ON,” fernando disputes with certainty. that much is true from all their testing and operations. communication with the outside world is limited but not impossible. in that regards, silph co. has come out ahead.

“hm.” he takes a moment to ponder eva’s theories. while they seem plausible up front, it’s their job to dissect and break down every possibility. what remains proves more often than not to be true, regardless of the probability.

“what if it cannot? what the dome comes from hoenn? or can only affect hoenn? if that were the case, then keeping us in is the only way it can protect us.”

which undergoes the assumption his HOLLOWED EARTH THEORY has some bearings. hoenn, for whatever reason, proves to be the most important place in their world. a hotspot, if you will.

“something interfering?”

nothing comes to mind at first. he keeps this suspicion in the back of his mind, ready to spring forth when the time is right. but now that she’s brought it to his attention, the irking feeling that he’s not remember something flourishes with mystery.

For a moment, Eva considers. It had crossed her mind. Fernando’s HOLLOWED EARTH THEROY presented during the Hoenn Science Fair was certainly reasonable, “That could be the case,” she nods along, but it still doesn’t bring her any solace, “Hoenn certainly seems important,” otherwise legendaries wouldn’t come near it, aside from their original deities. If it wasn’t important, it wouldn’t make sense for pokemon like Tapu Lele to abandon their home regions to reside in Hoenn.

“Yes, interference. Like some other kind of energy is trying to break through – to overcome them,” Was that what they witnessed in Sootopolis? Was that monster the source of the corruption?

And with a sigh, Eva admits her defeat, “I don’t know, Fernando,” she leans back and vaguely motions to the files strewn across her desk and the laptop computer, “Because I don’t even know what is out of balance,” let alone could she likely do anything about it. She hasn’t accomplished much in the way of answers. At least, not what she has hoped to.

It’s a simple question. If she’s not even sure what is causing the break in the balance, how does she even know equilibrium has been disturbed. It’s boils down to basic biology. Well, in this case perhaps ecology. Regardless, the similarities are enough for someone who understands the intricate network of both subjects to recognize. The parallels are there.

“Well,” she begins, folding her hands to rest on the desk, “When a healthy organism – or ecosystem – I challenged with interference, it is easily corrected. All the parts work together to fend off a threat. But when there is already disruption to that balance, it is off and unhealthy, opportunistic threats can easily take advantage of it, infecting it,” she shrugs her shoulders, “The corrupting energy, the assassins, the breaks in space and time, they’re like a parasite, wiggling their way across a broken barrier and into our home.”

With her doctor hat on she shrugs her shoulders again, “That’s a heavy question without an easy answer,” too many times she’d had to tell people she can’t fix their pokemon . . . yet, “It takes study and diagnostics to find the source then treat it. The barrier is like a band aid, an abscess, it walls off the problem to give you time while you keep it from spreading but without addressing the root cause, you’ll never truly fix the problem,” she considers her own words for a moment, is that what she truly believed? The barrier is a band aid?

“The barrier is not natural, though. Whoever or whatever put it there does want to keep something from getting out while they try and solve the problem . . .” the alternative to treatment is to get rid of the whole thing all together to keep the disease from spreading which meant annihilation for them.

What seems to be the theme for her now-a-days, Eva doesn’t have a clear answer for Fernando, a frustrating recurrence that eats her up inside.

Where Fernando may find reassurance, or at least says he does, Eva finds nothing but frustration. Science takes time, but typically they are not pressured by a countdown to Hoenn’s destruction, “Thanks,” she mutters as she tosses her head back to glare up at the ceiling, or what lies past the ceiling and in the vacuum of space.

Hopefully, their best is enough. It has to be, otherwise the alternative is unfathomable. Well, they’d all be dead in an instant so did it really matter at that point? No amount of worrying would change that if fate’s design was the annihilation of their world.

“Yeah, you’ve seen more action than most,” Eva wasn’t in Hoenn for either of those events though she had read reports on them as part of her basic research into the region, “Do you think this has to do with any of that? Any similarities that I may have overlooked?” Best to get it from an eye witness than a report. Plus, Fernando is a smart man with more insight on things than most.

“THE INVASION OF SLATEPORT IS UNRELATED,” is his vote of confidence. everything leading up to it and afterwards is a folly of man. the only arguable instance is the first instance of AVATARSHIP. at first, they had thought it to be the disturbance of way that forced the legendaries to act. as more details are revealed about ULTRA SPACE and other events hidden behind the curtains, his perception of events shift.

Eva can’t help but let a small laugh ring through her office, “Yeah, tearing a rift through ULTRA SPACE is definitely out of the ordinary,” today, with all the current events, it may seem more ‘normal’, but not less dangerous.

The most Eva reflects on their previous conversation, the mores she’s come to agree with Fernanado thought she still believe they need to thoroughly understand these portals and their functions in order to accomplish what she believes is their logical next step.

“I think you’re right, Fernando,” referring to their previous conversation on the dangers of the portals. Her head tilts back to glance at him, “We need to figure out a way to close these portals and distortions that keep popping up. Our ethereal borders are the only thing we don’t know how to protect,” Anything could pop through them in the blink of an eye. Permanently sealing them is an option she considers. They have everything they need right here in their world. Even if they could control when and where these portals are allowed, that would provide more safety than they have now.

which is what PROJECT AVALON is all about. it’s purpose may have deviated but the main idea holds true. they are not ready. they are not strong enough. there are people, yes, such as kyle lopez who shine brighter than most could ever hope to imagine. but he is just one person.

they need to be stronger as a species. as a universe among many.
