Olympus crushes a curious Reuniclus into the ground, gooey vesicle squishing against the cavern floor. Kepler throws a Pokeball and it sticks to the green goop for a second before absorbing the creature within.

“We should more exploit the college to criminal pipeline, then,” Kepler said, partially as a joke. He wasn’t sure how he felt about expanding Rocket’s science team on a personal level (practically, he knew they couldn’t recycle the same brains forever) but he hated change. And strangers. And strange change.

“Phycisists are obnoxious, but at least they aren’t chemists.”

Again, partially a joke.

but it's always easier in theory than in practice. the logistics behind funneling scientists from alamos u through to rocket would be complicated. nothing he can't tackle, of course.[break][break]

a lotad lands on theo's head and quickly makes itself comfortable. he glances up, though never reaches up to take it off. it can stay, he decides.[break][break]

Kepler blinks at the Lotad currently nesting on top of Theo’s cranium, turning him into a veritable anime character.

It’s rather cute.

Olympus reaches into the water and scoops out a Mareanie, throwing the damp creature onto land. It flops, scattering water over the stone, until Olympus floats over and traps it once more. It hisses out at them between the Metagross’ toes like an animal in a cage. Kepler underhands a Pokeball into its face.

It’s not a cheap compliment. Theo could’ve said chemistry and then Kepler would not have complimented his taste in science.

The shark coming up on land makes his breath catch and he’s struck through with the sort of mystifying fear that generally comes with things that are wonderful that make your brain short-circuit.

Before it can get too far, Olympus rattles it with a confusion, throwing off its jet propulsion system, then plunges a claw into the water to grab it and hold it up. Before it can do too much flailing (Kepler is struck with a horrible vision of himself) he hits it with a Pokeball.

“Yeah, absolutely,” he says, finally shaking free of his stupor. “It’s still my best work. Energy transference of the ocean. The science of waves. Experimental deep sea travel. A few of my favorite things.”

It was his baby, that was for sure.

Administrator Beckett was full of surprises.

First of all, he was approachable-- maybe not, like, super much so, but Kepler had been talking to him for a while and didn’t feel like he was annoying the other man. Yet.

Secondly, he showed a genuine interest in Kep’s research which, outside of directly Lulu Flint, no one even had.

“Yeah, I can dig up my old bibliography,” Kepler says, an electric current of excitement fizzing through his words. “Plus I’m sure I have a thousand bookmarks on articles and research. The oceans really are amazing.”

Olympus tackles a Fraxure off a ledge where it had been waiting in preparation to lunge. It plummets downward, instead, and then hovers inches away from the water, limbs flailing, as Olympus holds it up in the power of their telekinesis. Kepler banks a Pokeball off the Fraxure’s stomach.

“Modern science suggests the deep sea is the largest habitat on the planet,” Kepler says, going full fanboy, “which is incredible considering we thought it was a barren wasteland for the large majority of human existence. It’s only been, like, seven hundred years since we realized things live down there. We spent almost three times that amount of time in the dark, pun intended.”
