[attr="class","aedanwtw"]Aedan wakes up, hitting his head off the wall of a cot in his pap's spare room. He's a whole head-and-a-half taller than his usual self; nothing fits right anymore. If you watched the news, you'd know that stranger things happened.[break][break]

But it doesn't make it any easier.[break][break]

"Owww, eugh..." Aedan kicks a leg over the side of the bed and slips into some loungewear before heading downstairs. It's still morning, sometime before 10:00AM, and his pap is still asleep somewhere. Seems he stopped being so strict about chores ever since he stopped coming around, or maybe it's something else...[break][break]

Aedan skips breakfast and heads out across the property of a homely little ranch outside Littleroot Town, striding towards a post box that looks like it hasn't been hit up yet. Pap said he was expecting a package today...[break][break]

He'd just have to wait around for awhile, no biggie.[break][break]

Rummaging for a few spare pokeballs hanging against a lopsided belt, Aedan released his Cinderace and Shelgon for a bit of mock soccer; something to hone the reflexes until the mailman delibered their parcels for the day.

"We can go little faster, I'll be fine," he pleaded, but Ji-Ji adamantly ignored him. He had maybe half the orders he usually did, and he was still running behind thanks to the Drampa's insistence on slowing down for Locke's injuries, making him regret picking his old partner for this job.

His Flygon wouldn't be this stubborn about speeding up…

Finally-nearly 10:30 according to their watch-the ranch came into view, where Ji-Ji landed gently at the end of the driveway, despite his trainer's attempts to hurry him. Locke slid off as carefully as they could while De-De didn't so much pass as unceremoniously dropped their crutches to them. The Delibird hopped down next to them and rifled through her tail as they limped their way up to the mailbox.

Where of course there was already someone waiting.

"S-Sorry for the delay!"

[attr="class","aedanwtw"]Aedan was constantly losing possession of their 'ball' to Cinderace, who had a penchant for the sport, but it was all in good fun. While they were dribbling the Shelgon, which was tucked away in its shell-like body, a stranger rode up on a Drampa, along with their Delibird. The delivery man. Well, they were more of a boy, Aedan thought.[break][break]

What struck him first was their leg and crutches.[break][break]

"Oh, my gosh. A-are you alright?" Aedan manages to start closing the distance, feeling more guilty than anything. A hand raises to assist them, but he quickly realizes he'd only be getting in the way. Besides, they had crutches, and it seems Delibird carries the package.[break][break]

After a bit of rummaging its flipper-like hands emerge with a sealed plastic bag none the worse for wear, with a giant sticker plastered against the seal, which had their shipping information as well as a delivery manifest. Aedan reached out for it to unburden their little helper.[break][break]

He only just barely caught a glimpse of the listed contents, but would worry about that later as he tried to address them cordially. Pap wouldn't want him forgetting his manners. "Thank you... My Pap really needed this."[break][break]

He struggles to keep his opinions to himself. Or perhap it's his well meaning nature that prompts him to ask, however indelicate it may come across to the capable stranger.[break][break]

"Are... are you sure you should be delivering stuff like that? Couldn't you let someone else...?"[break][break]

Aedan wears his face like he knows it's a blunt question, but his empathy for their situation far outstrips his admiration for their determination. It was a lot like him ridiculing his Pap for going too far despite his old age...[break][break]

It all came from a place of well meaning innocence.

De-De gave a doubtful huff, as if this wasn't the first time they'd gone through this encounter today. The Delibird went through her tail again to retrieve the sign-off sheet, while Ji-Ji's attention was curiously focused on the young man in front of them.

"Someone else…?" Locke said bemusedly. "Well, I don't really let the Delibirds make fragile deliveries like this on their own; they can get a little….overzealous."

Isn't that how jobs worked? What was the world coming to, making the handicapped run a route...[break][break]

"Well, yeah... I get that." There's only so much badgering a person can take, and he figures Locke has heard it all, though that does little for the measure of guilt. He hadn't forced them to make the delivery, but they were all the way out in the sticks because of them, so...[break][break]

"...If there was someone else, you'd be able to take it easy, right?" Inadvertently he'd asked if it was a staffing issue, which made it all the more pitiable.[break][break]

Aedan fell naturally into this niche; looking after his grandpa wasn't something he did begrudgingly. Helping others felt more fulfilling than a selfish act, in a way.

Truth be told, employing anyone else never seemed like much of a possibility. Their very business model naturally invited a level of danger the regular post office didn't face, there were next to no benefits, and their clientele was too niche to allow for much money to be made-even if their sheer dedication had earned them some renown as of late.

"Er-I suppose that's true," he admitted. "Though I hadn't given it much thought before."

Beneath the tangled mess of apricot hair, he allowed a tangent thought to spread by virtue of his good nature. There was always his grandfather, though...[break][break]

"I'll be sure to send them your way...!" Why couldn't it be him, though? He managed only to struggle with indecision, as yet to abscond with his Pap's latest delivery, vital as it was. He could only hope to find a moment to break away from them, and yet he felt a sense of... was it duty? He didn't feel as if he could just walk away from this so lightly.[break][break]

"...Are you—I mean, couldn't I help, at least for now?" After a bit of battling his better nature, his impulses won out, though in the end there might only be so much he could do. Still, with the way things were heading across Hoenn...[break][break]

It was important to help out where he could, he felt.
