Watts stares intently over the side of the small boat, watching the fish pokemon swim to and fro in the clear waters. Jack smiles to himself, feeling grateful for this small moment of peace in turbulent times. Before long, he is again reeling in another catch.

Caleb did not attempt to pull his recently caught Gyarados up onto Lyra's shell; instead, he swiftly unhooked it while it was still in the water. He attached a new bait and flung the line back into the water. Those tasks complete, he considered jack wainwright's most recent question. "I like Hoenn well enough. It's been nice to start over here. I'm usually based out of Lilycove, but I was assigned to work in Slateport during the Splashfest. I like Slateport a bit better, though - there's just a lot more going on. Have you been up that way, to Lilycove, yet?"[break][break]
I originally moved to Lilycove because it seemed like a good city to lay low in, he thought to himself, but didn't mention out loud.[break][break]
As he spoke, he absently pet Lyra on her sleek neck. The Lapras made a pleased trilling sound, and brought Caleb a bit closer to Jack's boat, realizing it would be easier for them to speak that way. Suddenly, however, his fishing line pulled against the momentum of her movement, and he realized something new was biting.[break][break]

Jack nods in understanding while Caleb discusses Lilycove and Slateport. "I haven't been up to Lilycove yet, but I've got a friend that works up that way. I'll let you know next time I'm up that way to see her, maybe we can grab a beer since I owe you one now!" Jack replies, thinking of making up some kind of excuse that will enable a visit to Aurelie Lefevre's forge. "I seem to spend an awful lot of time in Slateport as well, but it comes with the territory if I'm going to cover these events for Beyond the Horizon," he says, wondering if a post about all this fishing would stir up some traffic to the blod.

Another tug at his line causes Jack to switch his focus to the fishing pole as he reels in his next catch.

"Who's your friend up in Lilycove?" Caleb asked curiously, wondering if it was someone he also might know or have heard of. He tossed the tiny Lanturn he'd recently caught back into the ocean with barely a splash. He had no idea those Pokémon could even get that small - the Chinchou it had been previously must have been miniscule. Today was full of surprises.[break][break]
Lyra seemed to be having a pleasant enough conversation involving grunts and nose sniffs with Jack's Boltund. The interaction was rather adorable, and caleb couldn't help but grin at them as he cracked his second beer and prepared his fishing line with another bait. In what was becoming a rather predictable occurrence, as soon as he tossed the line back into the water, something latched on.[break][break]

"Oh, my friend is Aurelie Lefevre. Do you know her? She runs the forge there. Or at least I think 'the' and not 'a' forge, since I assume Lilycove only has one forge. I guess I don't really know," Jack says to Caleb in a voice tinged with uncertainty. "She's really great," Jack continues enthusiastically, "if you don't already know her, you should look her up!"

Jack beams at Watts as the Boltund chats with Caleb's massive. I wish I had his social skills, Jack thinks to himself as he begins to reel in another catch.

A cool breeze caresses Jack's skin as the sun begins to complete its long arc through the heavens. Watts growls and barks happily at his new Lapras friends as Jack puts new bait on his hook. Tossing it back into the water, the line grows taut almost immediately with another catch.

Watts barked at the elongated shadow of the Lapras as it stretched across the water toward their small boat. The sun dipped closer to the horizon in its daily journey and Jack leaned back to take in the beauty of the hot evening on the water. Soon, he is tugging at his fishing line and reeling in another catch.

"Oh hey, I know Aurelie Lefevre," Caleb perked up. "Bought a neat little utility knife from her a few months ago. She's got a real talent for blades." He took a long sip of beer, then tossed the Wishiwashi he'd recently caught back into the water. "Guess Splashfest will be over soon," he commented idly. "Kind of glad to be honest, it's a lot to deal with." Though, Caleb had to admit, the happy hour specials had been great. He could do without all the crowds, though.[break][break]
