and truthfully, she hasn't the slightest fucking clue as to what she'd do.

she hasn't thought that far, truthfully. the concept of even finding such a being feels like such a distant longing that she doesn't know if it'll even come to pass.

"i don't even know if i can find it, let alone what i'd do."

a beat passes before she sighs.

"how disappointing, huh?"

[break][break] despite all his pushing, jayden does sympathize in some regards to illeana reyes. after all — how could he not? when they had been raised by similar proprietors.

[break][break] he had never really though so far as to what his future would be because it had never been a point that he could. choices had not been an option in the volkov household, and he was sure the same was for the reyes.

[break][break] the pharmaceutical heir gives the scientist a placid smile. "but from the sounds of it, you have plenty of time to figure it out. what you might want to say." his head tilts. "you've never mulled over the thought?"

[break][break] it was not a chase for a legendary, but often times jayden wondered what he might do if he could go back in time and gain audience from his father. what would he say, the questions that he might ask, knowing what he knew now.

[attr="class","illeana i"]he's correct, in a vague sort of way. disappointment comes in too many forms and she's choked on too many of them to rid herself of the sensation. it persists even now.

and where neither of them had any choice in their futures, they do now. unfortunately, her choices from when she had arrived in hoenn with innocent eyes and a naive heart are so far from what they are now that she doesn't quite recognize them anymore. every move she makes in the here and now reeks of self-preserving desperation and an acute obsession for power. if she didn't know better, she'd almost say she's every inch of what her father wanted.

the thought, alone, makes her skin want to crawl clean off bone.

"not really."

her face twists into something impossible to discern, as if it's too many emotions to separate with one's fingers.

"i suppose i never actually thought i'd succeed so i never indulged myself enough to come up with something to say."

and perhaps, in the end, she never will.

jayden's expression remains perfectly blank as he looks at her, more curious about her thoughts than his own.

[break][break] even as her expression twists into something impossible to discern, his mimics hers in his complexity. however unlike illie's, which are running so rampant with emotion that it is impossible to settle on one, jayden's remains perfectly impassive — a steel slate, a reflection into her soul.

[break][break] "well then," he says, with a curve of a smile. "maybe it's time you find out."

[break][break] he glances towards the distortion suddenly stirring up several feet away from them. he glances towards her, offering a hand. "shall we?"
