This time it’s an Unown-U. Unlike the Unown-S who is apparently way too fond of hovering at odd angles, this symbol looks exactly as one would expect. It floats high, ahead of Mars, as if leading him forward, and when looking at it, a single word rings in the mind of the banker:

U N D A E

There are no undae here. The eerie mountain is as it has always been. Yet, in the distance, he can see the ocean, and the waves that seem to flow endlessly. It’s a warm day, even by the standards of Hoenn’s summer and even if it’s the early morning. Hopefully, dealing with this heat will be worth something.

Apparently, unlike the Unown-S, this one isn’t set on messing with him. Or, maybe it isn’t today.

Whatever the answer is, it runs into the Bronzor before Mars even makes it close enough to see it – the symbol almost bumping into it in midair. Neither of them are happy about it, it seems, and while METAL SOUND rings, the Unown-U swiftly retaliates with HIDDEN POWER. And, then it shoots again. And again.

Seeing one in the wild is always so fucking tempting, though. Mars feels an itch to catch it when he spots it floating among the distant trees, because his little shoal of Inkay is perhaps his favourite part of his whole pokémon collection (Unown aside, of course).

But, even someone as greedy as Mars can sometimes let wild pokémon be wild pokémon and enjoy their lives, and it also helps that soon this Inkay disappears out of sight.

Well, U definitely doesn’t stand for Reuniclus, but as Mars sees it, it’s kind of an improvement. He isn’t really picky about these things anymore. There’s no point, since he knows it’s all too unlikely that he’ll encounter an Unown.

For now, he doesn’t really have the time to keep searching today, so Mt Pyre will have to wait until their next weekly appointment.

From the mountain, he teleports to the entrance to the nearby Safari Zone, since he did plan to stop by for some pokémon before heading back to work. His Braviary is released from its pokéball.
