clues point at the sudden hatchery that sprung up months ago. their equally abrupt closure puts the blame right on them.

evidence that points to one of them being spotted around here force fernando back onto the field. these shadow pokemon are not to be underestimated. it’s why he remains vigilant as his zygarde sniffs for clues.

all the while unaware that someone else is looking for the same pokemon.

What she had found was not what she had expected. Realistically, at the end of the tracks should be what made the tracks. But what was left at the end of the tracks was just that. A hill with nothing left behind. An unassuming grassy knoll.

That can't be it...

Elaine looked back at the various Pokemon footsteps. There were potential reasons for them all to end prematurely. For example, one could stop walking and backtrack across prior prints to throw off pursuers. But that would imply some foreknowledge of being pursued. Moreover, she hadn't seen any branching paths or further continuities.

But that was merely one possible explanation. Another more simple one would be...

That they were captured or picked up...

Or...

Elaine rubbed her shoes against the ground before realizing something. Prints were impossible to make after a certain point. She had not seen any human prints aside from her own but what if that meant that there was someone waiting to capture whatever wandered into this area where the soil would not leave prints behind?

In that case, where could they have gone?

As Elaine slowly attempted to crest the knoll and lightly tapped her foot as she walked, she would eventually find the answer. A high pitched and hollow sound rang out eventually as her foot hit the ground.

Kneeling down, she rubbed a hand upon the dirt only to see it clearing away and revealing...

"Bingo."

A metallic sheen with multiple indents lay bare to the sunlight at that moment. What she found was clearly a hidden door on this strange hill.

A DETECTIVE’S SKILL is not to be diminished. for fernando would seldom be able to find the same entrance through the same manner. instead, he piggybacks off her efforts when his pokemon leads him to the general clearing. the lack of footprints, people, or pokemon, makes elaine stick out against the backdrop.

From behind came a very familiar voice. As Elaine turned around, she saw a certain CEO who she had only just recently worked with.

"Ah, well if it isn't Mr. Silph," Elaine said with a smile as she continued to uncover the remaining portions of the door, revealing the hinges and a keypad behind.

"What brings you here?" She asked before lightly tapping at the now uncovered door with her index finger, careful not to make even the slightest sound while doing so. "Though I fathom it has something to do with this, am I right?"

Yeah, in this nearly empty area, there was only one thing anyone would be here for. Though, it was hard for her to imagine that he could be searching for a small missing Pokemon like she had been.

“POSSIBLY.”

the whole setup is all too inconspicuous to not warrant exploration. however, the general premise of his search leans farther away from secret doors and tunnels. their timing, is the only thing that makes it seem even remotely less than coincidental.

“i take it this is a part of one of your investigations?”

"You could say that." Though her attention turned back to the door itself, her focus had not turned away from the CEO who approached her. "Missing Pokemon are such a hassle. Sometimes, they turn up on their own."

Elaine punched in a few numbers before getting a message on the display saying DENIED.

Well, so much for that. With a quick sigh, Elaine realized that the brute force method was sometimes the best method.

Without much of a delay, she released Astrape by her side before pointing to a spot on the lock device. "Use Thunder Fang right there. Don't push too hard."

And in a short moment and a shower of sparks, the light on the display read 'Accepted' before finally swinging the door open.

"And sometimes those missing Pokemon disappear for more nefarious reasons. Needless to say, neither option is something that has ever been out of the realm of my expertise," she said before standing to look at Fernando Silph with a smile.

“MISSING POKEMON,” he questions aloud, mostly to himself. in that instance, his eyes narrow, scrutinizing the chance that coincidence would force them to intersect once more.

“you’re not looking for the SHADOW POKEMON, are you, highland?”

"I had a feeling, but that's the reason you're here too, huh."

Elaine scratched her head as she looked down towards the dark depths of the corridor that she had opened up and then back to the CEO who was standing with her.

"What had started as just a child's missing Pokemon spiraled into a bit of a nightmare involving Shadow Pokemon and..."

She pointed back down to the corridor.

"Well, you can see where that's led to. So, wanna join along?"

It was a simple offer, but given the acumen she had seen the man display before, she couldn't help but say she could ask for few more reliable partners-in-crime so to speak.
