“It’s alright.” The small deception was a bit amusing, in hindsight. “Me and Eris are trying to be a bit tight-lipped about it. To be honest, if you didn’t already know, I wouldn’t have said anything about hers.”

As for the small bit of hope she tried instill in him - it only made him more uncomfortable. “I’d rather…just think more about what’s going on now.”

It was easier that way. He’d already cried over her loss before.

The mention that Uxie may have been keeping an eye on him - maybe considering him as an avatar, was enough to get his mind of it. “You…really think that? That Uxie might be choosing me?” In a way, it made sense, yet he didn’t even think he might have attracted that level of attention. “I think they’re still healing up from the fight with that big monster, but maybe it really is watching over me.”

Though he did have to clarify a bit more to Melody. “The first time was…more of a group effort. People found these weird amulets, and we could only remember talking about them when he met up with people with a different amulet. Me and Eris had different ones, so we could talk, but the moment we split up, we couldn’t remember what we were talking about. It wasn’t ‘til one of us had everyone meet up in a group that we finally got to meet the Lake Trio.”

He decided against giving her some of the more concerning details - that some people lost Pokemon by looking too deep into it, some got brain bubbles that later burst.

“After that, we could remember everything, and the Lake Trio tried to warn us about what was coming with that giant monster. And they were right, for most of it.” Not all, however. “That might’ve been ‘cause of their warning. It was a real cryptic warning though.” But still accurate, in retrospect.

Maybe if it had been clearer, he could have been better prepared? No, that was blaming something else for his mistakes.

But at the very least, talking about all this with someone was alleviating his anxiety over the whole situation, even if only partially.

"I mean, it sounds like it from what you've told me so far. Maybe it's another puzzle for you guys to solve? Sounds like they're fond of them." Maybe they were just looking for a laugh like hoopa was with Kim.[break][break]

she pauses letting that information hang in the air like a stinky fart. "But regardless, they've taken notice of you and Eris. It could be maybe they're looking for a third candidate as well since they're a "trio" she pauses looking towards the rain tapping against the window, an occasional thunder strike filling the skies. "The only question is, what kind of values does that pokemon want in their avatar? Logic? Faith? Do they represent anything at all in mythos?" she asked since Hideo clearly knew more about them than melody did. [break][break]

"And well, since you said that they can see the future, from what it sounds like, maybe they're waiting for a specific event to trigger something in you and Eris?" what an ability she was envious of, to be heralds of the future and what was to come? She'd love notifications of cataclysmic events. "Do you WANT to be it's avatar, Hideo?" she asks, her voice becoming uncharacteristically stern as she wanted to see if he knew what it entailed.

"Yeah. Been a lot of puzzles with them." First the charms, then finding the right spot to be in during the attack. "But those always had hints to them. The charms was just us trying to find as many people with them as we could, and then during the attack, some spots showed up that we had to gather around - spots they'd shown us during the big meeting."

He hadn't been aware of that when it was happening, but he could thank his Pokemon for guiding him properly.

"But now, all we got are these marks. They aren't doing anything, even when me and Eris showed them to each other." It felt like they'd hit a dead end at this point. "And even if a third does pop up…I dunno how we'd find them on our own."

The most obvious answer was to consult with Martín del Mar , who'd arranged their meeting in the first place. Yet Eris insisted they didn't even show him their marks. For reasons she hadn't elaborated on.

Not that he distrusted her, but it didn't leave him with many options. Especially when he had to be so careful who he talked to about it.

As for what they represented?

"Well, I know Uxie's thing is knowledge, and Mesprit's is emotion. Azelf, I think is…determination?" Something like that. "There are plenty of determined people out there, so who knows who it'll choose. If it hasn't already."

Though he left it unspoken, Uxie's domain of knowledge felt a bit odd to him. He did know a lot about Pokemon and training them, but was that really enough to get its attention?

His contemplation couldn't have come at a worse time, Melody's question right into his mind. Hideo was stunned silent for a few seconds, before managing to get out a small "Um…well…"

A few more seconds before he could give a fuller response.

"I…I won't say no to Uxie if it really does want me to be its avatar. It'd be crazy not to say yes, since it really is trying to help us."

The "but" was left silent, but it carried through the room. Like a stinky fart.

"I just feel like the only reason it’s choosing me ‘cause of the stuff with charms. I did as much as I could to help find out what to do with them, but a lot of the work was done by other people. I didn’t even find mine until later than everyone else. They’d all been visited by the lake trio-" as far as he knew “-but I don’t remember meeting them before.”

A sigh. "I feel like I know the least about what's going on. Or what to do."

"I was hoping you wouldn't say that..." she says with a small sigh. "I don't think it's a good idea for anyone to become an avatar honestly. I've seen what that lust for power does to people.." she says recalling what one of her closest friends did in the pursuit of power. [break][break]

"Hell, take a look at me. Several people have tried to kill me an I'm not even an avatar yet. Is that really what you want for yourself Hideo?" She asked worried for him. "I just...do you want to live with that kind of stress in your life?"

Sounded like he’d disappointed Melody there. He faced away from her slightly, twiddling his thumbs - it wasn’t the only disappointment he’d expected to give her, yet it still stung.

“Well…” He tried to think how to put his answer into words that didn’t sound too absurd. “...it’s not like I don’t know how to hide from people looking for me. I’ve been able to stay away from my parents for a year and a half now. And I got plans if they ever did get close.” As far as he knew, his camp was still undiscovered, and he had more than one place to go back to if it was compromised.

“And that’s part of why I’ve been tight-lipped about the mark. ‘Cause we don’t want to attract too much attention to ourselves.” Them being him and Eris. “You’re the third person I’ve talked to about this, ‘cause I trust you. Only other people I’ve talked to were Eris and Doug - he was a gym leader until pretty recently.”

And a good friend, a mentor. Someone who would never deceive him. Hideo completely trusted him, and he knew Doug could handle himself if things got dicey.

“I know that it might be dangerous, but this isn’t just about getting powers. The Lake Trio have been trying to help us stop whatever’s coming to destroy Hoenn. Even if I dunno if I’m the best fit, but Uxie’s got its attention on me. And if I can get the power to help protect Hoenn from whatever’s coming, I’ll accept it.”

Even if he doubted himself, he wouldn’t refuse Uxie if the offer was made.

“So, uh…whos’ been trying to kill you?”

"OHh, yeah I love doug, he's a fun one. Me and him get along pretty well." she says remembering her colleague fondly. She stayed silent, her assumption that Hideo's parents were right. He seemed to not be living very comfortably with them. "I figured from how you reacted that your relationship with your parents wasn't the best given how you reacted to what I said earlier...but a year and change on running away...?" she said with a slight pause. [break][break]

"I'm impressed." [break][break]

A slight chuckle escapes her lips "Your secrets are all safe with me, Pinky promise." she says extending a pink out, wondering if his Pokémon would help facilitate the sacred promise. "I'll tell you more about the potential dangers IF and ONLY IF you hear me out." she says pausing, allowing for Hideo to full decompress all of that before she goes on. [break][break]

"For safety reasons, I don't want you camping out anymore. With Hoenn growing more and more dangerous, living in the wilds can get you killed, pokemon or people alike...Would you be open to living here? I have a spare guest room that can be yours." she offers. "You can say no. I won't get mad, but please truly consider it."

A small smile grew on his face, knowing Doug was doing alright. Even with Doug's newfound free time, Hideo didn't know much about how the older boy was doing.

The mention of his parents dampened that smile, even if it did lead into a compliment of his skills. "It's not that I hate them…I just want them to know I can handle myself." And he'd done well this past year and a half, but he'd yet to accomplish what he'd promised - the title of Champion.

But did he even deserve it at this point?...

The mention of a pinky promise grabbed his attention. It wasn't as if he didn't already trust Melody - it was the whole reason he was here in the first place - but how better to seal her silence than a pinky promise? "Alright," Hideo said, raising a hand - and a pinky.

He guided it towards where he thought Melody's hand was - and missed. It took his Musharna a moment to realize the need to guide him, informing him where Melody's hand was so he could more accurately make the promise.

Fingers locked, the pact was made. Just in time for Melody to add a condition before she explained more. "Alright…" Hideo muttered, somewhat unsure, yet ready to listen.

The first half left him displeased, his brow furrowed; there was no way he would abandon his camp. Even if he had the treehouse room as well, the camp was practically part of his identity as a trainer. He expected her to tell him to go home, something he would have resisted completely.

Yet before he could protest, Melody presented him with a new option: to live in her house. The sheer audacity of the offer caught him completely off guard, leaving his mouth ajar once more.

It took him a moment to process it - to think it over.

Once he had that moment, he spoke.

"I'm…I'm not gonna abandon my camp. I got it all set up, and I got some Pokemon that love staying there." He knew his Zarude wouldn't want to be cooped up inside a house. And there was only so much space inside a house for all his own Pokemon. "And I got a garden there I take care of."

Another silent "but" as he thought it through further. How long had it been since he'd stayed overnight at a house? His treehouse room just wasn't quite the same, and hotel rooms always carried the looming threat of some guy appearing and having their Pokemon burn the place down for no apparent reason.

"I'm still gonna be able to go out and do stuff when I want to, like going along routes or visiting other towns. That's why I left home in the first place. But if it's for safety, our safety…"

"Then I'll stay here."

There was no small amount of trepidation in his heart; he could recall all the times he'd tried negotiation with his parents. How it would always fail, even sometimes leaving him in a worse spot than when he started.

He trusted Melody, but the fear remained, his heart beating harder in his chest.

She lets out a sigh of relief. "Thank god, I was worried you were gonna say no. That stuff is fine." [break][break]

"I just worry about your safety is all, I want you to have a play to stay when things get rough. But if your parents ever catch you people cannot know I helped ok?" she clarified, she wanted to help him but she had to consider how it might blow back on all of them if people found out what she was doing. [break][break]

"I'm not gonna restrict your freedoms, those are yours to keep." she said taking a look at the time. "Well. It's getting late, I have a guest room I can get ready but for now is sleeping on the couch alright? she asked wondering if Hideo was tired.
