it was him and matias on melody's old gym. it has had better days, but they can't complain much since at least it gives them enough of a reason to come back to it.

they were just about to take a selfie with it and then send it to melody after editing the words 'wish you were here' on the image. the only reason they weren't able to leave is because something else was in the picture.

kyle sends it to melody along with a caption on the text message.

there were combee on the background. a lot of them.

matias was doing fuckall for all kyle cares. he was distracted by editing the photo on his phone to even care what he was up to for the last ten minutes. there was a filter, but it recognized the three faces of the combee in the background instead of them.

it ended up as a masterpiece so it was worth it.

"did you think melody liked what i sent?" he yells as he turns to the groudon avatar.

"Yes, it was cute." she says stepping out of one of the shadows of her concert hall as she crosses her arms and looks at the two of them. Her gardevoir appearing besides her as it would be apparent that by the sparkles of light leaving the corner that she teleported here. [break][break]

"The fuck is going on here? Trespassing? I expect as much from Matias but KYLE?" she says as she was obviously kidding. "You were supposed to be the best boy.." she says as she puts on her best pensive expression to bug him slightly. She looks over to the combees who seemed to take up residence in her dilapidated concert hall. [break][break]

"Combee moved in? Of course they did, as if I didn't have enough to deal with."

matias isn't doing much, really, besides staring at the combees that aren't even moving. it's like watching paint dry but worse.[break][break]

even when kyle calls out to him followed by melody making her sudden appearance, his gaze never strays. he stands with his hands on his hips, like a boomer, and stares up at the combee.[break][break]

"it's not trespassing if it's a haunted abandoned ruins," he tells melody. "it's ghost hunting. it's a customary tradition for young children as a test of courage, and those children don't get in trouble."

he'd say something else, but he realized that the two people with him didn't exactly have normal childhoods to reference a common experience.

his phone sounds a notification as he flicks through his gallery to show melody more pictures of her gym's rundown state. a thread he's been following received another reply, to which he figures is just as good as the picture where they found a graffiti of her on the wall.

he pulls up the thread and reads it out loud.

"lilycove fucking sucks right now so many bees oh-em-gee." he shows his screen to both of them. "see, we're just investigating the public's worries and we wanted you to join in cause ohana means family and family means nobody gets left behind."

it's a different excuse than before, but he wasn't fooling anyone with those anyways.

She sighed, she knew neither of them would be serious at first and actually directly tell her what was going on at first. [break][break]

"I've been busy, interviewing council members, preparing to see Sea Hoenn." she says crossing her arms and tapping her foot "I cant be EVERYWHERE you know." she says trying to defend herself. [break][break]

"Alright, whatever. Just help me get rid of them then please." she says as she tosses out her pokeball, sending out both of her Toxtricities as she reached into her pockets and put in her ear plugs. "It's about to get loud, good luck." she said giving them a chance to react. "Boom burst." she ordered as both pokemon worked in tandem to send out a massive shockwave of sound that begin to agitate and damage the hoard of combees.

matias has battled melody enough times to always have earplugs on him. so he pulls some out, and offers one side to kyle before sliding the other one into his own ear just in time for the BOOMBURST.[break][break]

one of his ears continues to ring. he tchs, then finally turns to look at melody.[break][break]

he casually takes the earplugs, though it's not like he needs them. he's already formed an immunity to loud sounds after living with close to a hundred dogs, whose incessant barking rings even in calm afternoons.

"i was thinking a more peaceful approach, kind of like, you know, bug repellant."

or sleep, confusion, or even just a gust of really strong winds. unfortunately, melody's head works differently from his.

he turns to matias.

"or maybe we can just be friends with them! we don't have to hurt them. if we try to be really nice, maybe they'll go away."

it's a reference on how melody would act before the recent events that triggered her to come out of her shell and explore her personality more.

Really? God they're both useless. [break][break]

"No I'm not pranking you guys. you baboons." she said annoyed already. "If there are this many combee here, they have a queen that's defending them." she said in disbelief as the combees began to stir, reacting from her attack. Yet it was delayed as if they were unsure of what to do just yet before finally setting their sights on Melody's pokemon. [break][break]

The combees fire a strong GUST attack at the two lizards, the amped form using PROTECT to block the attack while the other uses OVER DRIVE to counter attack. More combee began to stir, two other ones sending GUST attacks also at Kyle and Matias, intent on defending their new home from invaders.

and he's not just saying that to go against melody. he truly means it! but it's too late now seeing how melody continues to blast them with OVERDRIVE.[break][break]

the GUST that is sent their way is blocked by a wall of earth, quickly conjured by matias to defend him and kyle. when the attack passes, the wall subsides back down.[break][break]

"maybe you're the queen since you're the leader of this gym," he tells melody. "don't you think you have queen vibes?"

as the three were in the middle of bickering, they start getting attacked by the combee. those pokemon are so rude for not giving them five seconds to talk in between.

kyle starts to run behind melody's pokemon. "aaaaaaa," he says nonchalantly as he gets behind cover, only to stop walking when matias blocks it himself.

a suggestion comes with it, and kyle doesn't hesitate to follow it.

"roar," he says at the combee with a flat tone. his r's were rolled and nicely enunciated. there was no reaction.
"it didn't work," he tells matias.

"Oh wow, you roll your R's really well." she said noticing that Kyle was really selling the connection to Paldea as of late. [break][break]

"I bet Matias cant roll his R's." she says glancing towards him for a moment, allowing the taunt to sink in a bit as the combees stir again. [break][break]

One of the combees stray away from the rest of the pack, intent on taking them on itself. Toxtricity is quick to act however, firing a sludge bomb at the one who strayed from the clan. It was knocked out in one hit oddly enough, and it seemed more aggressive than the others...why? She pondered it for a bit but knew she wouldn't be able to figure anything out at the moment so she attempted to catch it and bring it to Eva Morales later to take a peak. [break][break]

"Something tells me I'm not the Queen. But these combee sure are weird for setting up shop here don't you think?" she asks them wondering if they agreed with her.

she was right. but he pretends he did so anyways and looks proudly at melody.[break][break]

he rolls his eyes, then looks back up at the combee.[break][break]

"they remind me of the ones Eva Morales and i encountered. they were acting up because of their queen. so i guess we should look for their hive."[break][break]

he conveniently leaves out how the vespiquen had a red shard in its forehead that he absorbed. it didn't do much for him but it still felt pleasing.

he's not going to argue that melody isn't a queen if she says she isn't.

"i'm so used at weird things happening that i'm not even sure if it's normal or not," he answers her.

distortions? aliens? invisible domes? a lot of past events prove that anything that isn't normal is bound to happen and something as minor as this just seems normal.

when matias suggests a trip to find the hive, kyle nods his head in cooperation. if they did something like this and file it down to aqua activities, then he's free for a bit under the premise that he just finished a job involving public safety.

"I'll open the way I guess." she says as another pokeball pops open, It's melody's liligant who begins to spray a sleep powder over the massive swarm of combees, slowly yet surely lulling almost all of them to sleep over time. [break][break]

As they begin to fall asleep, a small crack in the stage reveals itself, the combee from before covering it slowly plopping to the cavern underneath it. "Ah, that's where their home is." [break][break]

"let's go I guess."
