This time, Mars has enough sense not to immediately call the dark feathered Braviary out of its Luxury Ball, because see... Mars hadn't kept his promise.

He knows Boreas will be upset when he realises they're at the Safari Zone yet again, and if so, why not use a different pokémon? Well... as he sees it, it's an opportunity to ensure Boreas will do as he wishes even when unhappy with it.

Mars purposefully ignores the little birds that wander about in a small flock. He goes right past them, towards the stream where he knows he’ll find the next species.

It’s when near it that Mars releases the huge Braviary of dark wings.
[break][break]
Boreas rises in the air, scanning his surroundings from behind a mask of azure flames, and after he realises where he is, he flaps his wings with all of his strength, sending a gust straight towards Mars.

He stands his ground, ignoring the way the wind pulls at his clothes and tousles his brunette hair.
[break][break]
”Yeah, yeah, I know. Come on, you’ll be fine.”

Once the stream comes into sight, so do the dozens of little Mudkip that dwell in it, and with a short whistling sound, Mars gives a simple command right there and then: charge.

The Braviary of dark plumage circles overhead, and for a moment, Mars wonders if he won’t obey. The Mudkip start to run away.

He does swoop down just in time to grab one, but it becomes obvious he had made his trainer wait on purpose.

”You can be such an asshole sometimes.” Mars sighs, yet it’s a smirk that tugs at his lips when throwing a Safari Ball at the Mudkip.

Since the intent is to catch one of every species he can find from here to the Safari exit, Mars makes the executive decision to simply let Boreas go wild.

From a distance, Mars watches as SPRINGTIDE STORM rages through the fields, and when a small Bagon happens to get caught up in the Braviary’s vicious attack, he makes sure to capture it.

It’s soon enough that Mars finds himself standing by a clearing where a small group of Eevee play, and at that moment, another choice has to be made. See, he could trick one of them; lure into a false sense of security and catch it at the right moment. It’s probably what BARNABY FINCH would want him to do, considering how much he likes foxes. But, is it what Mars himself wants to do? Does he care enough about this one pokémon to go through all that effort?

Quite frankly, not really.

Plus, even if he did care, attempting to stop Boreas would be more annoying than anything.

That’s how any possibility of deception is set aside, and in its place, brutal and overwhelming force deals with the pokémon Mars intends to capture. There are no Eevee pictures for Barnaby this time around.

A soft petal is plucked from his hair, likely an unintended result of Boreas’ earlier attack. Looking down at it, Mars sighs, yet upon his lips there is a faint smile. As stubborn, proud, and utterly difficult as the Braviary may be at times, he can’t deny he’s more fond of Boreas than of most of his pokémon – that he trusts him more.

Is this the kind of bond that Raphael Pryde is so interested in studying and trying to understand?

Mars wonders about it as he watches the bird-of-prey soar overhead, and in this, he completely misses the presence of the Tauros nearby.

It’s Boreas who notices first, just as the bull charges. And, it’s Boreas who deals with it, swooping down upon it with sharp talons outstretched.

The Braviary had been upset with him only a moment ago, and yet it would seem that won’t stop it from defending its trainer. Admittedly, Mars is glad to see it.
