In the end, he always seems to come back to Mt Pyre.

Is it because he has come to love this place? There are other places where he could search for Unown, other places where he has encountered them before, yet it’s always the eerie mountain that seems to call his name.

There is no discomfort in this place filled with so much death. There is no fear in knowing that ghostly creatures lurk all around him. There has never been, not really, but Mars has admittedly grown much fonder of the mount than what he ever expected himself to.

Now, it’s while sitting on a rock near its summit that he watches the sun as it rises, and by his side, an Unown lightly hopes in place.

He obviously doesn’t expect a verbal response from the Unown. Most of the time they don’t even make a single sound. Today, however, it gives him a long look, and when it turns to gaze at their surroundings, the long and curved part of its body extends to make it look as if it were an exclamation mark.

At that very moment, it’s as if the world around it shifts, and instead of the Unown-?, next to Mars stands a small tree… with a familiar half-lidded eye on its trunk. It reminds him of how things were created from nothingness within The Cloud. It reminds him of the very abilities he himself acquired after returning from that digital realm.

”...What are you doing?”
[break][break]
He doesn’t need to ask. He doesn’t need to turn in the direction the Unown is facing. He can see it through the symbol’s eye: a wild Metang.

The potion had worked.

The Unown-? is hiding behind a DISGUISE.

A mysterious howl scares the Metang away, but this in itself doesn’t seem to soothe the Unown’s concerns. Is its warriness a result of the potion it had been given, or is it because none of its peers are not with it today? Unown thrive in numbers.

Maybe it’s something else. Maybe it has a sense that something will go wrong.

Maybe it’s right after all.

Flame rises, of unknown origin, and although it’s no more than mere EMBERS, it causes the sapling of a tree to vanish when it hits it. There is no fire. Instead, there is the Unown; perfectly fine and unharmed.

Its DISGUISE had worked, unnatural and abnormal as it may have been.

”Hmm… That’ll be useful. Go deal with it, then.”

Deal with whatever had summoned the flame, that is.

Surely the Unown can handle it.

The irony of it all is that the presence of a tree that is not really a tree seems to attract the presence of another pretender… Or, is a Trevenant a tree that has been possessed by a ghost?

Mars isn’t particularly versed in ghost pokémon lore and quite frankly, he just doesn’t care enough about most of them to learn more. There are some exceptions, though. For example: the Dragapult he then releases from a Luxury Ball.

Xanthos is as happy as ever, wagging his tail like an excited puppy who wants to play.
