“It’s honestly reeeeally cute,” Eva laughs lightly, a few fond memories of times shared within the lab with the curious creature. It find particular interest in the pokemon studies they conduct, not so much the Primal or Infinity energy. It will watch, but it gets very excited when it comes to new pokemon.

“Ummm, nothing too crazy,” she thinks for a moment, “Well, it can transform like a Ditto. It doesn’t need the pokemon in front of it though,” that gives it much more freedom, “And it can use like . . . any attack. Its range is incredible. I haven’t seen much else,” maybe Illeana has seen more.

naturally, the militaristic and fight-centric mind of matias thinks of the capabilities of mew. being able to transform into any pokemon at will and use any attack is incredible. but even he knows mew isn't a fighter.[break][break]

Mew is curious, innocent, loving – very much like a child. Though, Eva doesn’t underestimate its power. She too has thought about its usefulness in a militaristic sense, but she respects its choice to stay out of combat when it chooses to.

But . . . when Matias leans closer to ask if it has met Rayquaza, Eva’s eyes grow about two sizes, and she takes a sharp breath in.

“Idiot!,” her palm smacks against her forehead. She’s been so tied up in preparing for the inevitable, that her imagination has failed to recognize the tools she has right in front of her, “Oh my Arceus, you’re a genius, Matias! I love you so much!” she grabs his face to smack a kiss on his forehead.

“Mew! Mew could be Rayquaza!” Why didn’t she think of this earlier? If Rayquaza was too injured to pursue the meteor, perhaps Mew would step in. Whether it would be out of curiosity or perhaps a loyalty to the League, it was worth a shot. She’s out of options – and so is Hoenn. There’s no contingency to the Primal Nodes.

“We should go, we should go right now!” She may be getting too excited about the prospect of success. She’s desperate.

for a second there, matias thought she was talking about him. he would've agreed.[break][break]

he laughs as she grabs his face to smack a kiss on his forehead. when he pulls away, he knows what's coming, so he quickly downs the rest of his wine.[break][break]

matias isn't going to burst her bubble and say that dittos are unable to TRANSFORM into legendaries, so he expects mew to be the same. but then again, it is a legendary itself, so maybe it's possible. maybe.[break][break]

Eva doesn’t bother to finish he last of her wine. The little adrenaline spike has her mind racing a bit too quickly and her heart fluttering about as fast as Mew’s.

“Alright, yes, let’s go!” Eva smacks some money down on the bar and grabs Matias by the hand to tug him back out into the Lilycove streets.

Quickest possible way to the lab? Teleportation!

Blade suddenly appears from flash of light to stand beside them. He takes a quick look around before settling his focus on Eva, “To the lab, please!”

The Gallade places a gentle hand on both of their shoulders before TELEPORTING them to Ever Grande.

matias would've called out a pokemon of his own to TELEPORT if he were a bit soberer. two reasons: one, the strain of TELEPORTING two humans seems a bit much for any pokemon; and two, he does not trust blade.[break][break]

but he's drunk too much that he's simply whisked away by blade's TELEPORT.[break][break]

his stomach churns the moment they materialize in ever grande. he immediately takes a step away, head tilted up to catch his breath and to stop himself from puking.[break][break]

After a surplus of sugary wine and the previous whiskey, perhaps teleporting wasn’t the best idea. Eva’ stomach also twisted upon impact; a budding sense of nausea made her a little unstable. Blade placed a careful hand on her back to make sure she was alright.

“We’re fine, shake it off,” she gently pats Matias on the back. Eva’s adrenaline had already begun to dull the brief sickness.

Blade had brought them to just outside Rayquaza’s residence. The salty smell of the Hoenn sea is strongly out here, and maybe a bit of the fresh air would do Matias good, “Can you go get Mew, please?” Blade nods before disappearing again to find the playful creature.

“I know this might not work,” Eva admits with a bit of disappointment already laced into her tone, “Even if it does, I don't know if Mew would even be willing to help. But it’d be silly to not try,” she’s mostly defending the idea of her own comfort. She turns back around to check on Matias, “Thanks for entertaining my crazy ideas.”

her hand patting his back doesn't help but he appreciates the gesture either way. a moment passes before he rights himself, taking a deep breath after.[break][break]

"okay. i'm good now."[break][break]

the hint of disappointment in her voice is heard and isolated. he clicks his tongue when he looks back at her.[break][break]

"where's your usual optimism, eva? come on! i'm sure it'll work."[break][break]

or at the very least something will happen.

Eva’s lips pull into a frown at the expense of Matias’s subtle tease. She’s allowed to show something other than toxic positivity every now and again, especially in front of him. She trusts him and her vulnerability tends to leak through from time to time.

“Perhaps I’ve developed a healthy dose of pessimism,” she decides, just as the Gallade returns with the little psychic-type in tow.

Mew hums happily at the sight of Eva, twirling in the air before greeting the professor with a little snuggle against the cheek, “Hello to you too,” she coos, scratching the little pokemon beneath the chin.

“I’m going to take you to meet someone very special, ok?” she explains to Mew, “They can a little . . . grumpy so don’t take it personally,” she doubts Mew will but she’s not so certain Rayquaza will appreciate a visit from another legendary, especially now that it is feeling a bit better. The dragon was not even close to being back to full health, but it was more lively than when they first found it.

“Actually, maybe it’s best if you remain hidden,” as if on cue, Mew vanishes into thin air, brushing Eva with the tip of its longer tail to her know the pokemon was still nearby.

Satisfied, Eva leads them all to the chamber where Rayquaza sleeps. It stirs upon their entrance, a deep rumble of a growl reverberating through its throat. The dragon’s eyes peel open as it cranes it’s necl back to watch them enter. Its tail has continued to regenerate though it is not close to its former glory.

“How’s it goin?” she casually muses as she walks over to inspect the pokmeon’s tail. It was the same thing she did every time she visited the beast. She runs her hand along the length of its side, eliciting another low grumble from its throat, “I think you should try flying soon,” she decides, “Stretch those muscles.”

pessimism is usually good but on eva it seems out of place. like a contrastive smear across a beautiful canvas of optimism and spirit. he chooses not to comment any further on it and allows the topic to continue.[break][break]

soon, they find themselves in the dragon's chambers, and where eva approaches it with relative ease, matias hangs back as though he meets resistance with every step he takes.[break][break]

almost uncomfortably, he watches from afar, content at where he is for now.

A golden eye peers at Matias from afar. There’s a hint of curiosity within it, as it senses something it cannot see.

Eva’s gentle touch distracts the serpent, it cranes its head back to peer at its tail. The damaged appendage twitches in annoyance as the legendary is reminded of its restrictions, “Don’t worry, it’ll get there,” she soothes its worries with a warm smile.

“There’s someone I’d like you to meet – don’t freak out,” she prefaces the playful legendary’s appearance with a warning, “They’re very friendly, just curious,” Eva doesn’t even know if Rayquaza processes everything she is saying. On cue, the pink pokemon fades into view, practically shimmering in excitement to meet the subject of Eva’s recent obsessions, “This is Rayquaza,” a hand reaches up to scratch the Mew’s chin, “And this is Mew.”

Rayquaza’s initial reaction borders on hostility. The ground shakes as the serpent adjust its’ position, flipping its core to coil like a snake ready to strike. It’s fork tongue flicks wildly as a guttural growl rumbles through its chest, “Nonononono!” Eva gets ‘big’ and raises her hands to stand between the dragon and psychic-type, “It’s a friend, not a threat,” still, Rayquaza doesn’t seem pleased.

Eva’s blockade seems to deter it from any further hostility. The tension is still palpable as its gaze flashes between Eva and Mew. Occasionally it glances towards Matias so he doesn’t forget that the dragon has a lock on him too.

“Ok, well, uhhh this was . . . productive,” Mew follows her closely back towards Matias, “Do you think you can Transform into Rayquaza, Mew?’ Eva looks expectantly at her little friend.

Mew knows it can, but it shakes its head, refusing not to.

throughout the entire interaction, his gaze does not falter from the injured serpent, and through it all, he feels a presence grow heavier and heavier, whispering feelings and words into the back of his mind that all convey the same thing.[break][break]

while it does not escape a whisper, he does not bother attempting to cover it up. but timing seems to be on his side as mew and eva walk back over to him.[break][break]

a smile breaks. he leans in close to mew to reassure and to whisper the latter:[break][break]

"well, it was worth a shot!"
