the mall had this cute little event where people can come in with their pokemon, both of them in costumes. of course, kyle comes in just to get inspiration for pokemon costumes next time this party happens. the old ones for his mightyena don't really fit them anymore since they were made for poochyena sizes.

as he skulks around inconspicuously in his attire, he manages to spot a certain ceo that always found his way to distortions and other related events in the past. not that it was rare for people to be like that nowadays.

"hello, hello mister poggers bank," he greets. "fancy meeting you here."

his mightyena walks alongside him. its costume is literally just a big cardboard unown strapped on his face, with the eye cut out for a hole for the mightyena to stick his head in it.

kyle's was a vanilla ranger uniform, taken from the slateport's ranger union when he met up with Tam Fawley so close to the date of the costume party.

Mister Poggers Bank is one Mars hasn’t heard of before, but knowing how these things work, he suspects it’ll quickly catch on. He smiles brightly when turning to greet the champion, in part because this is a public event and keeping appearances is important, and in part because he actually thinks kyle lopez is alright despite… you know… being his enemy in secret and all. Not that Kyle would know that!

”Ah, if it isn’t… Fawley.” Golden eyes narrow when reading the name embroidered on Kyle’s ranger uniform. Had he taken it from some poor cadet? Obviously, Mars doesn’t care enough about the rangers to know that that’s actually the name of Slateport’s own captain. ”Changing professions for a day? I like your Mightyena’s costume.”

Mars himself is dressed as a a pirate, and by his side, a pink-tailed Meowth in a bandana and black mask waves up at Kyle. Yes, Cash Money is dressed as a cat burglar

he looks at mars. the costume fits him like a glove, like how he'd probably manage to blend in a comic con and no one wouldn't think of him as not a nerd. or maybe he secretly is one. kyle's not going to ask.

"rangering is a respectable profession i am proud to have," he answers back, but not before following it up after a moment's pause. "...for a day."

his mightyena's costume was a different thing though.

"yeah, i'm training him to float around," he mentions casually to mars. "no success so far."

it would've been very deceptive otherwise.

his attention shifts to the meowth as he saves the second best for last (the best is his mightyena). there's a giddy smile on his face when he stares at the meowth.

"cute! i give her permission to steal the costume idea from my mightyena next year if we can steal hers."

Is it teasing or is it an honest suggestion? Who knows. Mars just smiles, and while he would argue that rangers need all the help they can get, the truth is that he doesn’t know a whole lot of them… which kind of proves his point.

The mental image of the Mightyena floating in its Unown costume does get a chuckle out of him, though.

While they talk, the Meowth squints at the Mightyena’s costume, as if she actually were reminded of the Unown she has come to be familiar with.

on hindsight, the trend of his presence on public events and parties in the past seemed to gravitate towards PR. at least today's party wasn't that.

"i told you. we're here to steal costume ideas for my mightyena for next year's."

still, he does what mars has recommended and takes out his phone, snapping a selfie of him in costume. parts of mars and their pokemon are also visible on the background, but the screen wasn't focused on them.

taking no time to review the selfie, he comes back to mars.

"oh, yeah, since we're here, do you have any plans for after the meteor hits?"

it sounded off for kyle. he makes up for it for a follow up statement to clear things up in case it was confusing the first time around.

"you know, in case we don't all die?"

Is it really stealing? It’s more like drawing inspiration, if anything. Mars figures maybe the truth is just that Kyle wants to have some fun without being judged for having fun while Hoenn faces imminent doom or something. Which, if true, he totally gets it. No judgement here!

The question that comes after Kyle is done with his selfies (Mars doesn’t bother with stepping away so he won’t be in the background) causes him to raise a brow, and for a short second he considers saying that he has the perfect pose planned for if he becomes an ash statue frozen in time. Sadly, Kyle actually clarifies. Of course Mars doesn’t plan on dying! …But, you know… contingencies.

”Hmm… Take an afternoon to celebrate and then go back to work as if nothing had happened? It’s not like much will change if we make it through, right? Same Hoenn as usual.” Mars shrugs, but he also assumes there’s a reason why Kyle asked. He’s curious now. ”Why? Got any suggestions?”

he doesn't explain further, remaining vague since it should be enough for anyone who was present to get what he meant. besides, it's a pain to use the actual term because it just sounds so extra.

"want to try reaching that place again?"

information about ultra space and stuff, alongside mars' new abilities, whatever those may infer to, might give them new leverage on how to tackle this situation.

at that point, it's not even about the region, but to sate their own curiosities of the supernatural.

Mars does remember, and he also does agree: it is really fucking extra. The Cloud and cyberspace and all of that… The place had changed his whole life and allowed him to gain the kind of power he’s yet to even completely understand, but it still is pretty damn surreal to him – like something out of a dream. He’s sure others must remember it as more of a nightmare, but he doesn’t.

there's a shrug.

"not sure, but we can always try. the only reason we couldn't last time is because... yeah."

they got attacked.

"if something does that again, we can always try a third time when something new comes up." it was mars' newfound powers this time. the only reason it's being withheld until later was because of time constraints on kyle's end. "unless you want to brute force it. i didn't really want to do that last time with a civvie without their consent, after all."

he's respectful enough to not get people killed on his own whims, and that was why he's the champion of the people. which other candidate wouldn't hesitate to do it? no one, that's right.

"let's just bring snickers and orange juice boxes next time. i'm sure it'll love it, i think."
