The steam eruption burns some of the grunts off the point. She quickly recalls the smeargle as he set up the terrain that would inhibit them and followed up with a pokemon who could withstand that heat. [break][break]

"Gastrodon! Sweep them away! Muddy water!" she orders as the pokeball pops open and gastrodon begins to create a wave of water that turns blotched and disgusting thick as mud mixes with it, covering the primal point and sweeping away those same grunts caught in the earlier attack. [break][break]

She draws her rapier, ready to defend herself if one of the grunts got too close.

Navy gave no acknowledgement on the comms to Melody's request for backup. Words were precious commodities for a hidden man. Use his tongue too loosely and he would give away the advantage. Luckily for him, Melody wasn't a hard woman to find. She was one of the central figures of this whole thing. Poised front and center before the primal point. Navy hiked along a path, staying off the main road until, through the fog, he saw a Gastrodon, Melody's Gastrodon, release a torrent of water that turned into muck. Her strategy seemed to be working - as expected of one of Hoenn's elite trainers.[break][break]

It was time for him to make his own entrance. Navy wasn't a performer. He didn't have that flair for the dramatic that Melody had, but every now and then, he managed to muster forth a little panache. Maybe that was his new boss's influence rubbing off on him. Seeing her choice of Pokemon left him with a wicked smile. Gastrodon was part Ground type. Navy had done his homework on building his team, and by luck or design, Melody had placed one of her best Pokemon out first. Well, at least in terms of synergizing with his own strategies.[break][break]

"Howdy, boys!" Navy called out to those grunts that remained, sitting atop a rocky overlook. Navy and Melody had them pincered. "Not very sportsmanlike, accosting a woman all by her lonesome, is it? Let's make things a bit fairer. Lemme dig my boss outta this hole!"[break][break]

The word seemed to serve as a signal. The ground seemed to cave underneath one of the grunts. An ear-splitting roar accompanied his Garchomp bursting from the ground, all teeth claws and fury, and going for one of the grunts that dared to accost his boss with wild abandon. She'd hired him to do a job, and he'd be darned if he wasn't going to give it his best.[break][break]

The ground shakes as Stakataka shakes the earth with each of it's cumbersome stomps. [break][break]

Melody finds her balance quickly as she has to react to the threat approaching the primal point. "Allo!" she responds waving, her friendly demeanor returning for a moment before she snaps out of the trance. [break][break]

Especially when the ROCK BLASTS begin to fly she hides behind her gastrodon who uses his body as cover for her. "What the hell IS that thing?!" she shouts outloud as she had never encountered an ULTRA BEAST in person. "Navy we need to take it down fast!" she calls out to her body guard. [break][break]

"Gastrodon! Earth power!" She orders as a crevice of the earth begins to open up and snake it's way over to the Stakataka and tries to MAKE IT FALL OVER with it losing it's footing suddenly.

Was that...?[break][break]

No way. This battle just got crazier and crazier every time Navy turned around. He'd read about stuff like that thing. A creature from beyond this world, powerful. An unnatural existence. An ultra beast. A real, bona fide thread. Navy gulped. Fafnir looked to him for orders once more and the private investigator nodded.[break][break]

"We don't have any time! You heard Melody! Attack! Attack! Make the ground rumble, Fafnir! Melody, hold onto somethin'!" Navy braced for what was coming next. Fafnir was brutal on the best day. A stream of red ran down his maw and from his claws after the surprise attack on the grunts. Navy was determined to see this through.[break][break]

Fafnir flew up, a jetstream behind him. The dragon built up momentum before turning to the ground, running smack dab into the rocks blasted at it by the ultra beast. It cared little. It fought through its pain. Like a missile, it shot right at the ground by the Stakataka. It caused a localized earthquake of immense power, centered right by the Pokemon that meant to attack them.[break][break]

the mountain rumbles beneath their feet like a draconic stomach. several STAKATAKA cubes are struck by the EARTHQUAKE and EARTH POWER, their cyan eyes blinking in frantic pace.[break][break]

however, other cubes from its upper body exchange places with the others struck below in a bastardized, megalopolan version of thesus' ship.[break][break]

"MAGNET RISE." the megalopolan scientist commands.[break][break]

like a UFO, the ultra beast begins to hover above the steep slope.[break][break]

"EARTHQUAKE them back." the stakataka stomps, forcing a fissure to quake beneath the league's pokemon. "you think you have a chance against an ultra beast? do not make me laugh! hah!"

It knew earthquake too?! Gastrodon tries to tank the hit this time but begins to fall in into the fissure alongside Melody. [break][break]

However it seems like someone else was watching from the sidelines. "COBALION!" she calls out, asking for her partner's assistance. He leaps into the fissure, navigating the unsteady rock formations with ease as he grabs onto Melody. Her gastrodon is recalled to save it from falling and becoming a muddy puddle. [break][break]

Cobalion leaps out of the fissure into the air, aiming to collide with the stakataka. "You're right. We cant, BUT HE CAN!" she cheers for him. "Let's go Cobalion! Together!" [break][break]

Cobalion silently agrees, his stern gaze falling upon the stakataka as he draws his SACRED SWORD. aiming to strike against the foreign invader.

"...tch...!" Navy grunted. Fafnir turned towards him with that same look in his eyes as before. He looked like a beast looking at prey. Great. His own Pokemon was turning on him. Fafnir launched himself at Navy, roaring all the while. All he had time to do was brace himself and pray.[break][break]

Fafnir grabbed Navy and pulled him into the air just as the earthquake hit. The dragon helped Navy climb onto his back, looking down at the battlefield. Melody was on the move with...[break][break]

Cobalion?! One of the swords of justice?![break][break]

A real, bona fide legend was right there in front of him. It was charging forward, doing its part. All Navy was doing was watching. That just wouldn't do. He looked down at Fafnir.[break][break]

"You're done for now. Get me to the ground. Kohryu'll take over." His dragon nodded, turning and bringing him back to the ground. Navy jumped off, returned Fafnir to his ball, and drew Kohryu's ball.[break][break]

"We've gotta help Melody and Cobalion! Hit 'em with your tail!" The large Gyarados soared out of his pokeball, whirling towards the enemy ultra beast and aiming to augment the sacred sword blow with a smack from its tail, which glistened with water.[break][break]

the megalopolan is unaware of what cobalion is. unsure of its origins, nor is he privy to the full might of a gyarados.[break][break]

still, the scientist is keen-eyed enough to not let his guard down.[break][break]

"understand that we fight on a land sullied by the blood of my comrades." cotillard says. "you call it the ultra beast war? i call it the culling of my people."[break][break]

in the air, the stakataka continues to rearrange itself. like angry Lego-clouds, groupings of blocks swarm toward each hostile pokemon.[break][break]

some blocks scatter upon each strike, while others resist with a PROTECT.[break][break]

however, the scientist is quick to motion other cubes with his index and middle stuck together. to raise the stakes, he directs a swarm toward navy himself.[break][break]

he smiles at melody, but his eyes lean toward the league detective. "ROCK TOMB, stakataka."[break][break]

and the blocks swarm toward him attempting to encase him like a coffin and if successful, will attempt to lift him up.

She felt bad for the foreigner, in a land unfamiliar to him he seemed to be longing for home and a life before the ultra beast war. [break][break]

However she frowns at him. "Is it not fair that if you try to kill people, they fight back? You just wanted a one sided slaughter? You guys got what you deserved." she retorts, however he was quite perceptive. He knew little of Melody but was able to size her up pretty well from he likes of it.[break][break]

Cobalion instantly drops back down towards Navy, attempting to use SPIKEY SHIELD to block the rock tomb to free up Navy's pokemon to counter. "We gotta bring it down to our level somehow. Any ideas?" she asks him wondering if he had something in mind.

Navy saw his life flash before his eyes. He was a little kid again. His parents were still alive. Gabe was there. They didn't have much. They were poor, just making ends meet. A level above homelessness. But they had each other. In this cold, cruel world, that was something. He looked at the impending attack like a deerling caught in headlights.[break][break]

Cobalion, great sword of justice that he was, came to Navy's rescue at Melody's request. The legendary Pokemon was faster than Kohryu, who swam through the air to do the same thing. Navy looked up at the legendary and nodded. Man. What he'd give to have that guy on his team. A thought for another day. Today, right now, he had a problem to deal with.[break][break]

Navy pitied that guy. He truly did. But he had no choice but to fight on. To move forward, relentlessly.[break][break]

"Look, buddy. All I know is that you and yours are trying to cause a whole lotta harm to the world." Navy said. "And that means I've gotta stop you. Kohryu, Waterfall!"[break][break]

Kohryu did not nod. He did not blink. He climbed into the air, water gathering around him as he approached his enemy, the ultrabeast. A torrent surrounded him as he hovered in the air above his foe. He descended on him with all the fury of a dragon, the full weight of the Gyarados and his waterfall washing over him. The pokemon and its water slammed against it, trying to force it back down to the ground, to the earth, where Melody's stronger Pokemon might deliver a decisive blow.[break][break]

"funny coming from the league." cotillard laughs at the two. his old voice is airy and throaty in the higher tones. "last time i heard, you were waging war with another world."[break][break]

the SPIKY SHIELD performs its function. a curious sight to the megalopolan. from what he gathers, the cobalion should not have been able to learn such a maneuver.[break][break]

several more stakataka blocks scatter from the gyarados' WATERFALL. parts of the STAKATAKA descend toward the ground.[break][break]

"HEAVY SLAM, my ultra beast!"[break][break]

the blocky creature does not fall. it dives.

Climb[break][break]

Kohryu roared as his waterfall slammed into the strange creature. He did not know what an ultra beast was. He did not know much about the world, really. All he knew...[break][break]

Climb to the top of the world.[break][break]

The magikarp looked out of its bowl at a pair of curious humans. It was a nice summer day in Slateport. The smaller of the two humans looked at the taller and beamed.[break][break]

"Oh, Navy! He's so cool! Can I have him? Please? Come on! He's so cool?"[break][break]

"...tch? This useless thing? You sure you don't want another one?"[break][break]

"He's not useless! Have you ever heard the legend about the Magikarp and the Gyarados?!"[break][break]

"Fine. You're lucky I like you so much, kid."[break][break]

The magikarp beamed, as much as a Pokemon like him could beam. He was happy to have an owner. So many humans had passed him by without so much as a second glance.[break][break]

And as you stand tall, you will see.[break][break]

"Yeah-heah!" Kohryu's owner said. Gabe, the other one called him. His owner had a good name. His owner's brother groaned. Kohryu had just soundly defeated his Skarmory. "Who's weak now, huh, Navy?!"[break][break]

"Yeah...yeah..." The one called Navy smiled and rubbed the back of his head. "He's pretty cool."[break][break]

Kohryu's master looked up at him and stroked one of his whiskers. His master was a good person.[break][break]

That when you fall[break][break]

The place the humans called Sootopolis was burning all around him. Kohryu looked down at his master. He was broken. He was beaten. Those who bore the red R showed his master no mercy. He could not protect him. The human who had meant so much to him would soon part from this world, and there was nothing to be done.[break][break]

"Haha...sorry...Kohryu. We were supposed to be champs together. I told Navy I'd be the champion. The champion...he helps people. Haha, and I couldn't even help myself." His master faced the fading embers of his life with the quiet dignity of one much older. Kohryu coiled around his small, kind master. None of the ones called Rockets would have his body.[break][break]

"Do me a favor, will you? Look...look after Navy. I love him so much. He gave so much for me. I...I want him to have something in return. He's got a good heart, you know." Kohryu nodded. What else was he to do, but comply with his master's last wishes?[break][break]

You fall from a height[break][break]

Beneath him, his new master was in range of the fall. There was no time for a fancy trick. Gravity was doing this monster's work for him. There was only one thing he could do. One way to fulfill his master's dying wish. One way to keep this place he loved, this place called Hoenn, safe from those who would threaten it.[break][break]

He fell.[break][break]

Most men will never reach.[break][break]

Navy watched in horror as the Ultra Beast began its rapid descent. He would be caught, no matter how fast he ran. He saw Gabe on the other side as his heart slammed against his rib cage again. Was this what Gabe went through at Sootopolis? That cold, furious fear of the unknown? That sense of inevitable end?[break][break]

Kohryu slammed into Navy. The detective went flying, landing near Melody. He saw stars. His 'mon might have just cracked a few ribs. Navy opened his eyes and tried to look at what happened.[break][break]

"What's the big idea, Koh..." His voice caught in his throat.[break][break]

Kohryu lay under the stone beast. Stakataka had crushed Kohryu. The Gyarados looked at Navy with the last of its strength. With all of that weight on top of him, with that much crushing force, there had been no chance for his internal organs...[break][break]

Lift left Kohryu's eyes, but he looked content.[break][break]

"KOHRYU!" Navy cried out, raw red grief scratching at his throat. The last living remnant of his brother's team, the pokemon he saw his brother raise since he was a little boy, was gone.[break][break]

There was a static noise as Melody watched the stakataka and gyrados falling onto the floor, realizing they were moving too fast and that he was stuck underneath the staka. [break][break]

Cobalion and Melody moved to try and stop them from crashing but...it was too late. Gyrados had left this world. All she could hear was white noise as she stared at Navy and Gyarados...her breathing began to grow more ragged, her heart picking up pace, flashes of her own pokemon's death flashing in her mind. [break][break]

She released an ear piercing shriek of rage as she turned towards the stakataka and it's owner. "COBALION!" she answers calls out in a rage as Melody jumps on top of Cobalion. Feeding as much emotion as she could into him as cobalions JUSTIFIED activates on a totally new level than previously before. "SACRED SWORD" she screams as Cobalion feeds off of her anger, dashing towards the alien creature. [break][break]

The sacred sword passes through the stakataka, not leaving a wound of flesh and blood but one that directly attacked the pokemon's spirit, causing it to KO upon it's hit. "YOU." Melody shouts at Cotilliard "You're coming with me!" She shouts at him. [break][break]

However a thick fog began to roll into the area obscuring their vision of the criminal and navy. "You go after him cobalion. I'm staying to protect the point." she says as he nods. She tries to look for navy...but it seemed like he was gone.
